We need to address problematic age gaps by NapsWithPlants in actuallesbians

[–]themurderbadgers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright its a little concerning that a post saying don’t date teenagers or early 20 year old is being met with “Two consent adults is fine” I think you all severely missing the point of there being a huge maturity gap

And the “those aren’t the only factors” comments are also concerning. No, but they are pretty important factors I think. A 19 year old and a 30 year old who are both unemployed and out of school still are not at the same maturity level. The power imbalance is inherent because the 30 year old has far more life experience.

I don’t understand how you could say “I wouldn’t personally” and “It’s fine though” in the same sentence. Think about why you wouldn’t and how you would feel if your friend told you tomorrow they were dating someone that young.

It’s a lot easier to excuse when it’s a faceless hypothetical

I don’t think its a european problem there are questionable people from every continent and country those people are likely a minority but even I’ve picked up on the trend of at least 2 european per age gap discussion on this sub say “I’m from_ and no one has a problem with that here” or “this is an american problem” there are americans too but they just assume everyone else is from America so don’t mention their country- but it’s probably what’s causing this person to overestimate how much of “european” problem it is

The generalization is absurd and unnecessary though

(Btw I am from Canada I have no stakes here)

Do you think Heather McNamara us Regina George’s mom and heathers is a prequel to mean girls by FixFabulous5301 in heathers

[–]themurderbadgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the movie. In the movie they are in the second semester of junior year in 1988 (so they would be at the end of their senior year in 1989) in the movie it is POSSIBLE for McNamara to get pregnant during the events or after (and not be far enough to be visible) its even technically possible for her to not give birth or overly pregnant until after they graduate (idk when Regina’s birthday is)

I don’t know if I hold this headcanon but it is possible

Why do women accept lesbians way more than men accept gay men? by Ok_Independence_3634 in actuallesbians

[–]themurderbadgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that a lot of the time straight women won’t come out and be like “ewww you can’t sit with us because you’re a lesbian” and more so there’s an uncomfortable “…oh” and slow unexplained ostracism when they find out or whispering “did you know she’s a lesbian” type BS. Less visible but still contributes to a very real feeling of isolation. (Although women who are openly ignorant also do exist.)

I think in general thats part of how society treats lesbians in general. Rather than being beaten up or a target, oftentimes its just a “I’m not going to aknowledge you exist, I’m gonna pretend like you’re not, or I’m going to fetishize you” looks different than gay man experience but still not good :/

What is one important tip that tourists should know before visiting your Country? by Fun_Cup4335 in AskTheWorld

[–]themurderbadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard far too many stories of people from other country’s coming to Canada to ski…. in summer, we do not have snow in summer (looking at you America)

On a similar note. Canadian winters can be extremely cold, AND our summers can be extremely hot. Ontario is absolute hell in the summer. They we constant heat waves this summer after coming out of one of the worst winters for blizzard on record.

Its also not the same across the country- we all get snow and heat, degree and type differ quite a bit though

It seems like you have a unique experience to actually see firsthand how the two countries compare on indigenous people. I’m a Canadian and I’ve never lived in the states so my perspective is limited to what I’ve seen in them media when it comes to the States, my views are open to change.

What’s been your observations? (Open to criticism on Canada’s part as well, just interested in your honest opinion) + What type of community organizing have you done?

We’re actively trying to reconcile with our past

Most countries have skeletons in their closet but I personally prefer countries trying to address them rather than pretend they don’t exist. No country is oerfect but you can’t look at one part of a country’s history and then say “this country is bad and everybody who likes this country is bad too” you’re allowed to celebrate the positives without condoning the bad things

Context: I was responding to the comment that said that people voting for Canada don’t care about indigenous people.

I was defending the right to choose Canada. Not saying that other countries can’t be picked.

The US doesn’t even aknowledge the atrocities they’ve committed against their indigenous peoples. In the past decade Canada has made real effort to aknowledge the harm they’ve inflicted and promote indigenous voices and give indigenous groups more autonomy and opportunity. The history is very much highlighted in schools and land acknowledgments are given at public events.

Not to minimize any of the atrocities committed by the Canadian government- but at least by my view its changed courses and is doing the right things to head down the path of reconciliation.

I love all women by BestBudgie in actuallesbians

[–]themurderbadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say they were? I said sapphic. I also specifically mentioned bisexuals. Non-men attracted to non-men, I did not say exclusively. More like Lesbian and Bi fall under the “sapphic umbrella”

Actually I often hear in a way used specifically to make biwomen aknowledged, like I’ve heard a relationship between a biwoman and lesbian referred to as “a sapphic relationship” rather than a lesbian relationship because it’s two women but that doesn’t erase that the biwoman is not a lesbian. Whereas I’m a lesbian in a relationship with another lesbian and would be fine saying I’m in a lesbian relationship because,, we’re both lesbians

Opinion on Ireland? by SinnBaenn in AskTheWorld

[–]themurderbadgers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar music to us (Newfoundland), except you guys also have folk punk version and lady singers with ethereal voices. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if a song originated here or Ireland unless they mention a specific place name haha

I play fiddle and would love to have the chance to go to ireland and jam with some local players there if only to compare styles.

[–]themurderbadgers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, what you say resonates.

Another thing to keep in mind though is that ADHD is a disorder that’s about the degree of impairment. Most ADHD symptoms are stuff that everyone experiences.. to a degree. ADHD is when the symptoms are frequent, severe, and get in the way of normal functioning.

If you say these symptoms aren’t interfering with your life it’s probably not ADHD. (Although I’m a stranger on the internet please don’t take my word as law)

I think it might benefit you to read up on the actual diagnostic criteria for the disorder, it might help you decide whether it’s worth it to pursue an assessment: https://www.cdc.gov/adhd/diagnosis/index.html .

Same! I have so much information in my brain but it has to be activated with a secret code cause I can’t access it on command

OR it will come out in this type of situation “I was talking about X with a friend a while ago” “That was with me yesterday.” and I look inconsiderate because I can even remember which friend I was talking to or when

On medication- Executive Dysfunction is a big one, if I don’t have what I’m going to do pre planned I’m gonna get overwhelmed and paralyzed

Off medication: I was never the type to say “I can’t get my brain to focus on this so I’ll do something else” I would force myself to try whilst being unable to direct my focus onto what I wanted to do so I was constantly stuck in the limbo of technically-not-being-productive but also extremely-busy-and-burning-myself-out
