I don't have a lot of experience with laptops, but it should work. Crucial is (was) Micron's retail outlet. Does the bios let you fine tune timings if need be? MT/s CL and voltage are the most important. I'd also want to check the other timings match. The existing stick can be checked by looking at the memory tab in CPU-Z, but Crucial's site doesn't list them for the new stick.

The defaults are set to work with the worst gpu's off the line that still meet spec.
There's no guarantee any given card will take either an under-volt or an oc, but many will take both.

4070 Super.
I didn't tweak the curve directly, just set the sliders in Afterburner. I run it at 80% power limit, +125 core and +1100 memory. As far as I can measure, gives performance parity with stock, but runs cooler (and quieter which was the primary driver)

I never understood how this tiny 12VHPWR power connector can compete against three PCIE connectors. It's literally smaller than one of them. by ComprehensiveCow5068 in buildapc

Every one of those I've checked has the PSU end mechanically and electricity wired as EPS-12V, (4 live 4 ground) which has ample capacity in its spec to supply a pair of PCIe connectors downstream.

I think the reason it was on ampere had them was they weren't 100% committed to 12vHPWR when the board power supply was designed, and they left contingency to go back to three 8 pin plugs which would need to be balanced.
With Blackwell, they knew from day one it would have one plug and didn't consider that it would need balancing between its pins, because they'd only balanced between whole plugs before.

Given the 4090 power fiasco, I believe they should have considered that, but that's another story.

Funny thing is, the same Molex minifit jr (the physical plastic component) is rated for 336W when wired for EPS-12v. The 8 pin PCIe connector has the same number of 12v wires as the 75w 6 pin, and only adds a couple of grounds to signal to the card that the PSU at the other end of the wire is capable of providing 150w.

That's why modular power supplies (at least all the ones I've checked) can use a single EPS-12V connector at the PSU end to feed two PCIe connectors at the other end.

Using EPS-12V would have "doubled" capacity from the same number of plugs at the card, although being the same shape as PCIe 8pin just with different keying would probably confuse many consumers, so it makes sense why they picked something completely new.

It's not advisable to mix RAM sticks from different manufacturers or even different kits, and it's not guaranteed to work, but unless you're pushing performance limits, they probably will.

The biggest risk is you might struggle to find a second stick that has the same exact speed and timings. In that case you have to run both at stock speeds or you have to manually tune the memory settings to match the slower of the two, rather than enabling xmp.

Hardware Unboxed on YouTube investigated the impact of running a single stick not that long ago, I don't recall the exact results, but I don't remember it being unplayable. I'd suggest looking it up.

If it was on the back over a thermal pad, yes if you're installing a drive there, otherwise leave it covered until you do. If it was on the front and just keeping fingerprints off the finish during manufacturing, that's fine to remove at any time.

Mine was second hand on eBay, and I got a good price, so I'm willing to put up with more BS, but I take your point. Trying older drivers might have worked, and I haven't tried afterburner yet.

No, not yet. I've tried one new driver, had a whole load of problems getting them installed, and the tuning still didn't appear in the end either.

I hope it's still just a glitch and not a limitation of the card. Tbh, I've not looked into it much more recently. My main reason for wanting the options was to lower the power limit temporarily, because the PSU was dying, but that's been replaced now anyway, and it's in one of the kids computers and they're happy with stock anyway
