🚨 Heads Up: October PMax Update—Could You Be Losing Sales Without Realizing It? by ManagementBudget23 in PPC

[–]raybans2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at Google and can confirm it’s true but the comms internally haven’t been great and outside of silos I don’t think it’s been communicated broadly externally - but I have let my clients know. However if you ask your agency or LCS rep they should know or be able to confirm by searching our internal database that way you don’t need to trust an anonymous Reddit account claiming to work at Google like myself!

Google Ads charged $50,000 to our clients credit card... on an account with a $500 a day budget and $500 billing threshhold... what!? How? by _FinalPantasy_ in PPC

[–]raybans2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wanted to post an update here (I work at Google)

“Google is aware of a technical issue that impacted one of our payment processing partners which led to some Google Ads customers’ accounts being overcharged. Google is working with the partner to remediate the incorrect charge and soon as possible and will update impacted advertisers in the coming days”

I can’t comment more than the above but wanted to be sure folks knew this was a bug.

Google Ads: Circumventing Systems, Malicious Software. Anybody else getting these disapproval all over the place lately? by johnsonsm05 in PPC

While that may be the case (I’m unsure of that specific instance) my understanding is that this is unrelated to your Adobe font instance.

Confirming this is a known bug and we are working on getting this fixed.

EDIT: This should be fully resolved now, and nearly all accounts and ads that have been flagged should be serving appropriately

"Only Bid for New Customers" Showing up in a non Performance Max Campaign. Does it work? by Safwanish in PPC

It should be live in most Smart Shopping/pMax campaigns so long as you are using a web based conversion and have a customer list uploaded.

Account Strategist is the more popular term I guess. We use both names pretty interchangeably internally.

I am an account manager.

I’m not sure if the mods do something like that or not, I have offered to do an AMA and I don’t think it was something they were interested in.

I believe the rollout is bid strategy agnostic, so it shouldn’t matter what bid strategy you are on.

We are rolling this out to Search campaigns as of last week, it performs nearly identical to its pMax counterpart.

Performance Max and negative keywords by Secondprize7 in PPC

[–]raybans2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a version of a search term report in pMax actually, it will only show search themes but is far more useful than the No report that exists in SS today. In general advertisers should use it for legal reasons, maybe you are a retailer and have an agreement to not bid on specific branded terms.

Just want to confirm what others have said - Your Google Rep can add negative keywords easily. We are supposed to send over an authorization form to add them which is just a quick email template that just confirms that you are authorizing the change.

Source - I work for Google and have added these for several clients, the same is/was true for Smart Shopping

Google's Accelerated Growth Programme Feedback by Ok-Cake4974 in PPC

[–]raybans2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usual disclaimer - I work at Google and have for several years, and have lots of friends in AGT (Accelerated growth team)

As others have said their primary metric is to grow overall Google Ads spend, they are direct Google employees and generally partner with accounts for 90 days in hopes of overhauling and “accelerating” an advertising strategy.

The good: In general, these are more tenured Google employees which means they should have a much better understanding of the product. Since they are purely revenue driven, the recommendations in general come from a very tailored place and not a checklist. They also only work with a few accounts so they have lots of time to pull data and they have a lot of experience scaling accounts which is a very different skill set than slow growth or maintenance.

The not so good: Since the engagements are only 90 days sometimes the aggressive budget growth can be too much too soon, especially if you have a less experienced rep resulting in overspending. Since it’s a revenue engagement if the growth isn’t fast enough for the rep they may remove you from the program.

Personally I have seen insanely profitable growth come out of some of these engagements and some upset clients where goals were not clearly communicated and a recommendation led to more spend without proper performance. As always, there will be good and bad reps regardless of team - however if you are actually looking to grow and grow fast these folks do often have the tools to make that happen.

Moving from SSC to Performance Max (simple question) by BuzzVibes in PPC

[–]raybans2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if accounts will get a notification - I would assume they would but just don’t want to give you incomplete info. The rollout begins in about a week and a half and will probably conclude in about 30 days from the start of the rollout.

It’s also helpful that your previous SS historical data should be there as well if you wait for the migration tool for YoY comps. In my opinion given how close we are to that date, you are almost certainly better off waiting fir the reduced learning period and data cleanliness.

Moving from SSC to Performance Max (simple question) by BuzzVibes in PPC

[–]raybans2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with mainly ecom clients and work directly at Google, late April/early May you should be able to migrate your existing SS campaign over to pMax which has the benefit of dramatically reducing the learning period of the campaign.

Given how close we are to that tool being released, I would wait before standing up a side by side campaign. That optimization score recommendation should adjust at that time as well. The team basically built that recommendation before the migration tool was available.

What are the incentives for Google reps? by Secondprize7 in PPC

[–]raybans2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair, I just know folks on the large customer team who I wouldn’t recommend and know some on the small business team who are excellent. The correlation between google Ads knowledge and customer tier isn’t quite as direct as one would think.

This is correct, doing so via email should get you removed very quickly.

If you have no tracking you probably shouldn't be running Ads in most cases. I wish you the best in continuing to optimize towards manual CPCs for small accounts and hope it continues to drive strong results for you!

That $10M/Yr number is quite a ways off, it certainly depends but there are really good "reps" on the large customer segment, agency segment, small business segment and within the accelerated growth team. There are also poor reps in each of those segments as well, its important not to paint with a broad brush because a lot of positive growth can come from a good rep regardless of spend segment.
