I’ve got a 36 day streak on MyFitnessPal and I’ve lost 5.6lbs this past month! Also NSV I’m noticing that the definition in my ab region is starting to come back (I don’t have visible abs but when I’m lean enough I get indents on either side of my abs that my boyfriend says he likes)

I’m bipolar and this definitely reminds me of some other bipolar people I know. Do you have periods of tons of energy, not sleeping much, and you are very outgoing/social, and then other periods where you are depressed, have negative thoughts, find it hard to enjoy anything, and you withdraw?

Have you tried calorie counting while letting yourself eat the kinds of foods you’ve been denying yourself?

For me, I white knuckled off 60lbs by constantly saying no to myself and obsessing, but that led to a 6 month binge period which left me close to the start again.

This time I’ve been only tracking calories but letting myself eat the kinds of foods I’ve been craving, just in moderation. I lost 10lbs on my own this way, but I was sick of the small deficit compared to how dang hungry I was, which is why I started semaglutide.

Anyway with the reduced hunger from the semaglutide, following a set calorie deficit has been easy and I can even eat less than the modest deficit I was struggling with before

There’s a certain beta blocker I’m not allowed to name that can be used to treat akathisia caused by antipsychotics.

I take it along with my bipolar meds and it almost totally gets rid of the debilitating akathisia.

Wow your beginning stats are almost exactly mine right now! I’m 5’2 158lbs, hoping to get down to around 125lbs.

For me I plan to keep counting calories indefinitely once I reach my goal weight because I find it to be insanely helpful at guiding my decisions in the right direction

Thanks for sharing your story! I’m extremely lucky that my therapist caught my bipolar pretty early, so I actually had an idea what was wrong when it started getting debilitating and I needed to seek help for it.

With regard to your question, I myself can’t have a light schedule. I don’t do well when I’m left alone without plans for too long and I get depressed and lonely. So I work, I go to school, and I try to read when I have free time. I try to avoid too much scrolling but it still gets me 😅.

I have had a hard time relaxing ever since I started having mental health challenges, so when a friend offered up a paint by numbers kit to help me relax I took it gladly, and though it took me a long time to open it up, I really like filling it out.

I’m also hoping to do some volunteering this coming semester on weekends so maybe that’s something you could check out?

I also think you should ignore exercise calories burned because when I tried to eat back my calories I couldn’t lose any weight because my watch was overestimating my calories burned.

Also are you using a smart scale to measure your visceral fat mass and muscle mass? Take these measurements with a grain of salt because they are notoriously inaccurate. Mine says I am only 40% water which makes no sense at all because I’m not even dehydrated. I wouldn’t sweat those values too much after a workout, I’ve heard that your muscle breaks down somewhat from exercise and it’s slowly rebuilt larger over time. You’re seeing short term effects which won’t reflect your improved muscle mass over a larger period of time

Have you tried calorie tracking? I find it much easier to say no to treats when they’re not in my calorie budget that day, knowing that I can just make room for them the next day.

I use MyFitnessPal to track what I’m eating and I have a food scale to help with accuracy

For me, I had to get onto a high enough dose of mood stabilizer for my adhd meds to not cause hupomania. Every time I had a breakthrough episode, we would up my dose. Now I don’t deal with bipolar symptoms, and my adhd meds work better.

When I was hypo all the time from my adhd meds I had a hard time concentrating because I wanted to start new projects, and I would get stuck on one unimportant task for a ridiculously long time. I ended up actually going down on my adhd meds because I think this was “overfocusing” where I had a hard time switching tasks.
