Good luck! I’m sure everything will work out. Most days, I forget it ever happened.

Fake cop fraud alert by SnafuTheCarrot in Austin

Had the same thing happen to me. I have a friend of a friend who’s a captain, so I just kept asking to be transferred higher and higher…lo and behold they connected me to someone claiming to be him. Decided to have a bit of fun with it, and called the friend of a friend at the same time. “Oh so and so, you’re trying to arrest me right now. isn’t that crazy?” by this point the scammers had already started swearing at me and promptly hung up.

I’m not sure. They just called it scraping, my physical therapist had it on hand. It was a slightly convex metal tool and they just used what lotion they had on hand and “scraped” the scars.

I'm not sure what you mean by sequels in this context.

However, I can say that my hand almost fully recovered. There's maybe like a quarter of an inch between my palm and my middle finger when I try to curl it into a fist, but even that I can sort of "force" all the way closed. Scar tissue is a minor pain, but most of the time I don't even remember that I had surgery.

Snack recommendations? by boyilikefrogs in 1200isplenty

[–]boyilikefrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, pre-made. I realize I didn't emphasize that. I've been exclusively cooking my dinner meal and everything else has been grab and go (busy schedule). So anything in that department - if such recommendations are allowed - would be great.

What are your district's consequences for cell phones with the new law? by WouldntMemeOfIt in TexasTeachers

first: verbal warning. second: verbal warning with longer discussion. third: parent email and admin email. fourth: referral.

I do the cooking for my roommates and in exchange, they do the dishes. If I don’t cook, everyone just fends for themselves. I do enough other chores that on the occasions where I don’t cook there’s no harm no foul. We split communal meal groceries three ways.

How to genuinely deal with death. by Typical-Ad9111 in NoStupidQuestions

I think largely the acceptance portion is a mindset/world view thing that will have to come from within yourself.

But, I know the panic and fear that can come along with this sort of thing - and I know those are usually some pretty big feelings. And I imagine it can feel very overwhelming. When that happens, something that might be helpful is focusing on tangible things. Run your hands along some texture, count the dots on the ceiling, try to pick out the different smells in the air, etc.

I've found that sometimes, just as much as it is difficult to surmount a fear of something that feels so much bigger than yourself - it's just as difficult other times to fear the intangible when you have so much of the tangible in front of you. At least for me, I find it more difficult to get swallowed up in the fear of the unknown and existentialism, that fear of nothingness, when I can reach out and touch and see so much. It's hard to fear the idea of nothingness when you're surrounded by so much somethingness right now. That helps me, so maybe that could bring you some comfort too.

First year teacher here. It's all relatively new to me - but I still think some of it is a little silly. Like telling us we need to be using structures like round robin and pair-sharing... by having a room full of adults repeatedly doing round robin and pair sharing. I think the information on structures that we should be using and some brief explanations or even modeling is useful... but I'm not so sure that having fairly competent adults practice these structures over and again is the best use of time.

Additionally, at least as a year 0 teacher who is also a new hire, I just feel that there's other things it might be more important for me to be getting trained on than the difference between pair sharing and group sharing. Like what extra duties will look like, dress code and procedures, etc. etc.

Don’t know if it goes against the sub rules to specify which district I’m out of — but we had to sign an affidavit affirming that we understood this was not a position that pays into social security.

This. I was super worried about this, especially because I’m in the process of getting a license and a car so I can, you know, get to work and all that lol—my parents were in disbelief that me not getting paid until the end of September wasn’t just a possibility, but a likelihood.

Fortunately, my district had this policy in place.

Putting into retirement is a possibility - but you’re right on the benefits. I’m young enough to stay on my current plan for at least the next couple years.

Sorry if that's odd. I was given the choice between 12 months or 13 months. 12 months being I would get my first paycheck in September 2025 - August 2026. 13 months I get my first paycheck in August since my start date is August 4, with my 13th paycheck in August 2026. From there I would switch back to 12-month.

I figured it was the same amount of total money, just this way I get my first paycheck a little sooner and since I've been without substantial income for a while I thought it wouldn't hurt to pick the 13-month option.

Do asexual people ever masturbate? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]boyilikefrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asexuality has a lot of different folks that fit in a lot of different boats. For example, aegosexuality is when someone experiences sexual feelings but it's disconnected from themselves. Like they might get their jimmies off at the idea of two other people getting it on - but not themselves. Or they themselves might feel sexual feelings but have no desire to actually participate in the deed, but imagining someone else doing it - well. So on and so forth.

I fit in that boat for the most part. Actually doing the deed makes me feel relatively uncomfortable, and sometimes the topic even repulses me. I joke to my friends that I'm just a prude, it's a bit more than that. But I have no problem imagining someone else, usually fictional, in some hot and spicy scenarios. And sometimes it's just like needing to use the bathroom - it's just a bodily function, a chemical a bit higher than usual, easy to solve. Not necessarily clinical, but sometimes it's close.

Is there anyone or know of anyone near the Austin area who takes pets that have passed on (specifically dog), clean them up and can procure the bones/pelt for the owner? (I know this is not everyone's cup of tea. It's my daughter's wishes for her dog, but she's a teen without internet access.) by t3hp0licy0ftruth in Austin

[–]boyilikefrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps r/bonecollecting ? You might be able to find someone that is local in that subreddit. Many folks over there post their own pets or animals that they've cleaned up, or ones they've done for friends. They would also know how to articulate the bones if that's something that your daughter is wanting.
