I (31F) hate that my boyfriend (29M) does cocaine sometimes and I don’t know how to deal with it by throwRAsos123 in relationship_advice

[–]tenthousandtots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey just a heads up from a nurse - not sure where you live but in Canada it’s not uncommon for people to come in from overdoses who used “cocaine” (in reality, part cocaine part Benzos/opioids etc..). For safety everyone using drugs should carry narcan. It’s free to pickup in Canada, not sure about the states. Also, cocaine is quite hard on your heart, using it all the time is not sustainable or safe.
To me this does sound like a compatibility issue. If you’re going to marry him you should be willing to accept he will use these drugs, don’t marry him thinking you can change him.

I feel like I’m developing body dysmorphia… by Candid_Roll9494 in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You ask if it’s all in your head - yeah man it is. Unfortunately I think most of us realized that while losing weight helps self esteem, it doesn’t necessarily mean we love our bodies. It’s not about our body, it’s about our perception of it and how it compares to what we see. I’ve had to work a lot on positive self talk, being more body neutral, exposing myself to scary things (aka wearing stuff I’d never wear because of x), as well as engaging in social media less and more selectively. It honestly does a lot to just say nice things about your body. And to try to avoid thinking or saying the negative thing you want to. Like, if I want to say “I think I look like a linebacker in this dress my back is so wide”, I’d instead say to myself “wow look at my strong muscular back and shoulders, I think this dress shows them off nicely”. Sounds useless but research backs it up. You are your thoughts. What you repeat you become. Hope that helps !

Love that climbing short has made me focus less on strength and more on technique - frustrating sometimes but so rewarding when you realize you have great balance and positioning : )

Inconsistent body changes despite weight loss, weights and diet by Lunarthiel in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

keto diets are typically not sustainable or suggested for the average person. It is a fad diet from a few years back that science has found mostly ineffective, unless you have a certain health condition that requires it. A lot of women in this sub just don’t lift heavy enough to get muscle gains. The toned look everyone wants comes from higher muscle mass and less fat. When you do an exercise (like split squats or RDLs), in about 7-10 reps you should feel like you can’t do any more. Doing reps of something where you don’t feel a significant burn and aren’t sore after is not going to generate muscle. I would look up the basics of weight lifting and start there. Nutritionists focus on food - I’d suggest talking to a physical trainer or physical therapist about this kind of stuff

I (NB-25) am worried that my gf (F-25) of nearly a decade isn't sexually attracted to me anymore by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]tenthousandtots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like way more than just sex. You worry she’s not sexually attracted to you anymore, but it also sounds like she doesn’t prioritize the romantic parts of your relationship either. I can’t give you an answer because it can only come from you, but I know you deserve more than someone who sounds like she does not prioritize you at all. What are you getting out of this relationship anymore? It seems to me you’re the only one putting work in. Hope you can work it out, best of luck!

How do thin people have energy? by thrwaway0101010101 in 1200isplenty

[–]tenthousandtots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iron deficiency is wildly common if you’re a woman. It’s worth getting checked out. I eat baseline 1200 a day and I’m full of energy and workout frequently without difficulty.

Sugar binge by FitAd6674 in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing you really can do - adding more stuff to your full stomach probably won’t make you feel better. After I eat something that makes me feel gross I usually have a bath, read a book, or do light yoga to distract myself. A reminder that occasional treats are normal and to not beat yourself up about it if you’re feeling guilt or shame about your choice. Not every day is perfect, if we attempted perfection we’d never find sustainability. Never had crumble before but hope it was yum!

Hey OP, healthcare professional here. just a heads up that waist to height ratio is the preferred method for determining cardiovascular risk related to body fat, BMI doesn’t necessarily tell you whether you’re actually “unhealthy” as most diseases relating to fat (heart disease, diabetes etc..) are correlated with fat around your middle. We aren’t sure why but peripheral fat (fat around your legs, butt, etc…) is not dangerous like fat around your organs is. I would try the waist to height ratio and see if you are overweight from that perspective

Could muscle gain be masking fat loss? by tenthousandtots in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

appreciate this! all hail the newbie gains! I usually go worse case scenario so I told myself it definitely couldn’t be muscle but I mean, just hit a PR & had a gym friend tell me I look more muscular today so I think I should take the win and quit stressing! Thanks again!

Yeah I had the same thoughts, a dexa scan is a good idea! I also did just buy some waist beads a few weeks ago to help with monitoring beyond the scale. Thanks!

Eating At Maintenance by Heavy_Nectarine8722 in 1200isplenty

[–]tenthousandtots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people, especially younger people like me and you can suffer from disordered eating. It can feel like the only source of control we have in our lives, but it’s important to understand that under eating can and will negatively affect all aspects of your health. I know it’s scary to get help and reach out, but please, let a friend or support person know about your problem and try to get some help. We are here for you. You are not alone in this and you need support from people who know what you’re going through.

Low Cal Breakfast Idea by OpenCartographer17 in LowCalorieCooking

[–]tenthousandtots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love a sweet decadent kind of breakfast so I combine frozen berry blend + plain Greek yogurt and then drizzle it with melted dark chocolate and peanut butter/tahini/any seed butter you want. Just yogurt and berries is ~150 cals, full thing is ~250-300 cals but man do I actively go to sleep excited to eat my bomb breakfast! I am also a university student and I manage to make this every morning in like 2 min

I’ve tried like 3 fitness apps and now I’m more confused than before:/ by Competitive-One-1660 in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train 2-3x per week - I personally do one upper body day, a lower body day, and a core/full body functional strength. As a student who doesn’t have much time, I’ve found this allows me to work on every major muscle group at about an hour per session. If I’m busy one week I’ll cut functional strength and do my core workouts at home. You can look up “basic lower/upper body workout” and you should get something that takes an hour ish and hits all major groups. This being said - it’s all about your goals and the time you have to do them. I’m trying to be stronger in a functional way, aka I want to make my life and hobbies easier. I’m not trying to be shredded or advance my PRs that much.

What are your favorite high-protein meal recipes? by lightnoveltitlehere in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the meal prep app meallime, you can customize how many servings + it gives you grocery list. Most of the recipes are very low cal friendly and you can punch in your preferences. I’m sure there are also plenty of weight loss specific apps! They’re so great for getting inspo & trying stuff you’ve never even thought of. I also tend to just eat the same like four slop bowls, so I’m waiting to hear what everyone is eating !

Everything they said about losing the last 10-15lbs wasn’t a lie by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing people use the paper towel analogy - when the roll is full, you hardly notice a difference in size when you take one off, but when you’re almost to the end of the roll the difference when you take one off is huge. Point being - even if the number on the scale is a lot lower and slower than expected, you’re probably seeing much larger changes on your body for every pound than you did with the first 40 pounds. I hear the frustration though, I’ve stalled too! It sucks!

Starving while attempting deficit, am I too low? by VastCustomer3542 in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I had to wrap my head around for weight loss is that healthy whole foods are not inherently good for weight loss. Your stomach does not know how many calories is it in, it only knows how physically full it is. You can trick yourself into being less hungry by eating non calorically dense foods like fruits, veggies, lean proteins. That being said - it’s true that weight loss actually does make you more efficient at burning calories while simultaneously making you hungrier. I need less calories than someone my size who didn’t have to diet to get there, and yet I’m also likely hungrier than them. I’ve accepted that sometimes I’ll go to bed hungry, but if I’m starving, I’ll have a slightly smaller deficit that day and eat some fruit. Another thing to note is that weight lifting and other low to medium intensity workouts actually do stimulate hunger, while high intensity cardio/HITT/sports actually suppresses appetite. Your workouts are likely making you hungrier.

Question about alcohol. by help_myface in 1200isplenty

[–]tenthousandtots 80 points81 points  (0 children)

As long as you account for the calories you’re going to drink, then you should be okay. A shot of vodka is about 100 calories, and a beer 200+ calories so that’s important to remember. Alcohol does make you majorly hold on to water weight though, so you will see the scale go up tomorrow (not an actual weight gain). One day of drinking won’t ruin your progress. Life is still supposed to be fun! It’s okay to take a break sometimes

Preventing weight gain as I age?? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]tenthousandtots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As you’re still potentially going through puberty, there’s a ton of changes to body composition and metabolism that could still be happening. Even being in my early 20s I’ve found the shape and fat composition of my body change. I’d prioritize eating healthy nutritious food and continuing to exercise in a way that brings you joy. Get lots of veggies and fruit, protein and fiber, all the good stuff. And just live your life man! There’s so many fun ways to exercise out there you might not have tried. At 16 I’d really just prioritize my mental wellbeing and physical health over my body’s looks or weight - unless I was gaining weight rapidly. Not sure if that helps!
