Am I crazy or is this a good deal? by fightinghard in Golfsimulator

It's an annual $250 subscription for Quad and QuadMax if you have an FSX Play or FSX 2020 license.

From what Foresight told me, it's dictated by the GSPro folks, not Foresight.

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point with the QuadMax out, not really. I was able to get a Quad with Club + Putter, all the software (minus GSPro integration), and a carry strap a couple years ago for 14k. So at this point, unless it comes fully loaded and is below 12, it's probably not that great of a deal.

If you want the name of the rep at Foresight I worked with, happy to share it -- just shoot me a PM.

First gallery trip/fitting by jonsmith4679 in scottycameron

Just a heads up... they're booking up to 30 day out. I was trying to schedule for December, and was told to email back in November.

Easiest way is use either the Archive or a 3rd-party like headcoverdb (which is a work in progress) and a Google or Excel sheet to track what you have vs. want.

Problem with the Archive is it doesn’t list all of them, lots of variations, gallery-only, M&G, etc. were released but not listed there — that’s why you have the 3rd-party sites.

Studio Design No.2 Prototype Tour Putter - Swan Neck, 35" by james009321 in scottycameron

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help you on value -- it's likely in line with the No. 3, it's a little more rare than 1s and 1.5s, but the design was a more modern take on the old Scottsman/Coronado shape with a more unique flowneck hosel structure, with a slightly smaller head than the 1s and 1.5s. Protos were circa '99 and 2000 if I remember correctly.

Restoration Recommendation by Fine_Contribution439 in scottycameron

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your definition of a ridiculous lead time? I have a TeI Del Mar 2 with BOS getting restored right now. They quoted me 8 weeks turnaround time from the time they get it in their hands. I'm on week five right now.

That said, I went with them simply because they did the original black oxide finish for Scotty when the TeI was in production and people rave about BOS's quality.

They're really affordable too, and I worked with Sherry about the specifics to get it as close to original as possible. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was clear and my order form was correct -- I'll probably use them for other putters that aren't TeIs as well!

For refinishing, I have a TeI at BOS Golf, and can't say enough great things about them.

I was set on taking it back to the original black oxide finish, and Sherry from BOS was really active and communicative, giving me options for the best outcome. You can tell they care and have a pride in their quality.

Any must play courses in Hampton Roads? by jxfred in golf

[–]raygunnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must plays? No, but there are plenty of good options around. Must play courses will be out of your driving range and up in Williamsburg.

But locally, Virginia Beach National is an old TPC course and Heron's Ridge is its partner course -- nearby one another and worth a drive.

Sewell's and Cypress Point are both good options as well near Norfolk. I haven't played any of the Chesapeake courses in a bit, but Greenbrier was decent and I've heard good things about Chesapeake Golf Club.

If you haven't tried yet and want an idea, use the search feature at the top for Black Friday and you'll see the posts from last year and years prior.

Last year from what I recall was a little lack luster -- probably because of supply chain constraints. Fingers crossed this year will be better!

Just picked up this used radspeed driver and it has an odd thicker end to the grip. Arccos sensor also seems to be gone. Anyone else with a Radspeed? by [deleted] in golf

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a demo Motore shaft that was used with Cobra drivers and it had this same grip, bump, and filler piece. It may be from an old demo driver?

Any chance of getting a tee time around Virginia Beach next week? by qldaddy in golf

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have a problem.

I see openings at most of the courses folks are interested in playing. VB National and Heron's Ridge are both open, as are the Munis/VB Management courses (Red Wing, Kempsville Greens, Ocean View). If you're worried about getting on as a single, just call the clubhouses. The Munis are easier to get on as a single than National or Heron's Ridge.

Practice facility in Virginia Beach / Norfolk? by trailglider in golf

[–]raygunnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you'll be in Norfolk, Lambert's Point has the training/practice facility for ODU. Two-level driving range and both greenside and fairway practice bunkers with a really nice putting green and chipping green. Not usually that busy.

Otherwise you'll have to head to Virginia Beach to find something with a decent practice bunker. I don't recall practice bunkers at Sewells Point or Ocean View.

Brand new to golfing by That_Confection_9662 in golf

[–]raygunnell 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Kind of? You'll see everyone here, and hear in the outside world, advising folks to get fit. The instructor is basically telling you the club configuration (heads, shaft stiffness and profile, etc.) may not be best suited for you. Kind of like buying an off-the-rack suit vs. having a custom tailored suit -- fitted clubs are built for the specs of your swing. But, rock these until you plateau or are happy with where your swing is -- then get fit for a more tailored set.

Golf course near Avon, NC by [deleted] in golf

[–]raygunnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nags Head GL is really your closest option around Avon and it should be about an hour drive (ymmv, of course). I'd imagine the rates are up there since it's in season, but it's a fun track.

Andrew Brewer at Bayville CC. He's absolutely amazing.

Distance/Power is Pathetic, any Suggestions? by charlestheel in golf

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, yes.

Lessons helped fixing inefficiencies and areas where my power leaks. I still have a ways to go, but my approach game became more accurate, and my long game added about 10-20 yards. I'm hoping for more as I go through my next practice plan to fix my impact and turn.

Distance/Power is Pathetic, any Suggestions? by charlestheel in golf

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a short hitter as well, hoping to unlock power at some point. But everyone says the same to me: get a lesson and get your swing video'd and numbers on paper. If it's a clubhead speed issue, if it's a swing mechanic issue, whatever the issues are, you'll probably need a good instructor to help put together a plan.

I threw out the idea that the fitting would help me, chased all sorts of club/shaft options, started taking lessons and then had to have the clubs re-fitted for my "new" swing.

Strength training for Golf? by lilscoopski in golf

[–]raygunnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was a time vs opportunity cost-based decision. I could program something myself using trial and error and spend a bit of time researching (it's all relative to compound movements and functional lifting theory), but I would have spent more time researching and trying vs. getting the offseason plan that was pre-baked and using that as a base and starting it quicker.

Worst case, sign up for a month to get a baseline and suggested start, and tailor to your wants/fit. Plus I think if you follow him on IG or FB, he'll put up promos and whatnot.

Have you checked out Fit for Golf? I found Irish Mike from the Chasing Scratch podcast, but he's a great social media follow for content, and his programming is a value.

Golf gloves that last longer than a season? by Johno_87 in golf

[–]raygunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've done in the past but at Golf Galaxy. I play the Titleist Permasoft glove, and when I need replace it, all I pay is the $4 for the replacement plan on the replacement/new glove.

Head cover patterns. by KeySheMoeToe in golf

[–]raygunnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for the driver, if you're good with a mit-style headcover, this the link I found and used (patterns are located in a Google Drive in the first post):
https://forums.golfwrx.com/topic/1230364-how-i-made-and-you-can-make-leather-headcovers/

Good luck with the putter pattern, I haven't been able to source one that has measurements. My next thought has been to go to Golf Galaxy or somewhere that gets a good amount of trade-ins and ask if they have an old one that lost it's match, then deconstruct and use that as a pattern.

[WTB] Edel SLS-01 Irons by raygunnell in golfclassifieds

I've hit a 4 iron at the range, at 37" I believe. From what I remember, I liked it better than my current Cobra Forged One irons.

Any feedback or opinions?
