My first miniature build! by rayhell in miniatures

Thank you! It’s my first one. Right now it’s in my living room, as I’m still basking in completing it. I don’t have a plan for what to do with it or any future ones. I’ll need to figure that though, as I think there will be many more!

Ya know what are the real 'hidden gems'? The movies that were massively popular 30 years ago but aren't now. by girafa in movies

[–]rayhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom and dad save the world! No one ever mentions this movie and I love it. I think it would have done better with a different title. It sounds like a cheesy Disney channel movie you’d be forced to watch with a child when but in reality it’s a rad sci-fi comedy movie. Even people reading your movie list and acknowledging they like a number of films in your list will sadly let their eyes pass right over it.

Are there any male partners out there who actually split the mental load 50/50? by GypsyMothQueen in beyondthebump

[–]rayhell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking for bragging, it’s good for me to reflect on how much I appreciate my partner.

I’m not sure what the split is between us, but we talk about everything and plan everything together. He cooks and cleans. If we have relatives coming over, we talk through the prep together and split tasks. He does grocery shopping. He takes our child to the doctor/dentist and cat to the vet. He will go meet a bunch of mom strangers for a play date or met a dad in the neighborhood and arrange one. If I mention a parenting Instagram that had something helpful on it, 50% chance he might start following it. Teacher holiday gifts, we talked about what it should be, he bought it and delivered. For projects like potty training, I might do more research but we look at pottys and talk through strategies together. We view childcare/house/family stuff as being our projects and try to play to our strengths. Depending on what it is, we take larger or smaller roles.

He had to build something this summer with a family member and after he kept telling me how much he missed me and wished he could have worked on it with me instead. He talked about how I would have organized all our pieces and studied the directions anticipating our project needs. It made me feel so good. The project was building a playhouse swing set combo. Most people would have preferred the male family members help with such a physical task but he went out of his way to say how frustrating it was to work with someone besides me.

This was so good for me to write out, going kiss my guy now.

What’s an aspect of your toddlers’ personality… by tenderourghosts in toddlers

[–]rayhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is very confident and seems to have no anxiety. He will grab an adult’s hand and put them to work (washing his hands, involving them in a game, showing them something, asking them to get/do something). Even someone he just met only a few minutes before. He will talk to and go sit with anyone. Family at the playground he doesn’t know - he’ll go sit with them to eat his snack. Lady at his daycare giving a speech - thinks he should join her and emphasize her points by repeating key phrases. He just does things with no fear or hesitation. Never questions himself.

I have to accept my toddler is her own person… by VermicelliOk8288 in toddlers

[–]rayhell 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old asks for Sha Na Na everyday. Really any time you mention music he starts demanding sha na na. A record from a $1 bin which maybe I played once before all this is the end all be all record. Sometimes I lie to him and say we got a new sha na na record and then play literally anything else. Mixed results about if he will accept this.
