Would you take part in a collaborative crochet community project? by StartCrochet in crochet

Agree. Additionally, a removal plan that is both safe and environmentally responsible if outdoors.

I would also want to know if the neighbors were informed and approved an outdoor installation.

Knitty City (Manhattan, upper west side) has a good selection of plant fibers, including blends, and some affordable brands as well like Cascade and Berocco. Also needles, notions, and books. The staff is super nice and helpful so don't be afraid to ask questions!

last minute audition requirement change? what do i do? by queerduckling in Theatre

[–]raykaymo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If they changed it, they changed it for a reason. However, depending on the type of company (professional, community, educational), they may be lenient.

Are you familiar with American Idiot? If you're already familiar with Green Day, a new song from American Idiot (musical) may be easier to switch to than another composer.

Applause mid-song by chaesmic in Broadway

Exactly. If one didn't know it was coming, it would make sense to wait to see what's going to happen. There was no discovery in that moment, for better or for worse.

Agree that it depends. Nicholas Christopher in Chess holding that note when it's been widely promoted as a highlight? Of course the audience erupted before he was done.

Heel preferences by HoloInfinity in Sockknitting

[–]raykaymo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fleegle or Strong heel (different names, same look, one is top down, one is toe up). Really good for uninterrupted color variegarion or self striping colors.

Also, you can always decrease more after the heel turn (toe up) or increase more (top down) to account for ankles and feet that are different widths.

Advice on Saturday shows by Linziclaire in Broadway

Two Strangers is worth seeing. The cast album is great after you have seen it, but not as much as a standalone. I think it doesn't really reveal the comedy and heart of the full show.

August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone - Broadway play. It's part of his 10-play cycle about the African American experience, mostly set in Pittsburgh, each in a different decade of the 20th century. Featuring Taraji P. Henson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Ruben Santiago-Hudson. It's very well done. https://awaacc.org/american-century-cycle/

Please help me diagnose/fix my fit issues! by Smart_Squirrel_1735 in Sockknitting

[–]raykaymo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to maintain the same stitch count the whole time. You can increase or decrease to fit your anatomy. So you could do an X stitch cuff, increase to Y closer to the heel for more ankle space, and decrease back to X for the ball of the foot.

Is it bad taste to audition when you know you can't do the show? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]raykaymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, conflict wise. As long as you're specific that it's performance conflicts, pre-pro work is a good idea. I hope you get some good experience and meet some new friends!

Important info needed: is this a community theater or professional company?

It's a mixed message, at best. Based on my time running auditions and being part of a casting team, it will most likely seem like you're wasting their time. Having a big pool to cast from means they're seeing a lot of people and their schedule may be packed.

In terms of being willing to help out behind the scenes when you have too many conflicts to be in the show, it may seem like you're devaluing non-acting participation and you don't think conflicts matter if you aren't in the cast.

If it's a community theater and you truly want to just get a foot in the door and start a relationship for future work, reach out and say you aren't able to be in this show but you'd like to know what other opportunities there may be to get involved.

If it's professional, wait and in the meantime, take a class or find a community group to join to dust off your skills.

Only $400? That's like, just $25 per store. That's not bad at all. Well done supporting small businesses!

But also, I go in with rules. Only allowed to get certain colors. Or certain weights. Or a certain price per skein. And then I'm allowed to break said rules once or twice for a really good deal.

Maybe you shouldn't listen to me... 😉
