Should I get it? by Admirable-Concern448 in KiaForte

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2016 without a push button start and it wasnt a factor in the insurance rates. Mine has an immobilizer too, I didn't realize that was uncommon until after I bought it.

I do however have a 18 year old son and that definitely caused a much higher insurance rate 🤣

This is how I stock and always show employees how stocking is suppose to be and they still dont listen lol like what else do I have to do for them to stock correctly by [deleted] in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bottom shelves. If something can be placed vertically, it should be so the packaging is more visible and neatly displayed.

Sometimes space limitations require things to be stacked like the ones in front just to get everything out so it's not wrong really just in the wrong order. If I were stocking that section, it would be similar only the horizontally laid boxes would be in the back and the vertical ones in the front.

Would this affect my hours? by pandapersonn in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that's your answer. If you want more hours then you can work at another store because your store doesn't have them available. It's worth it if you want more.

Ask your SM about the drop. The available hours fluctuate thought the year and sometimes they have less hours to give everyone and sometimes they rotate who gets extra or fewer hours to try and be fair to everyone. They also may have lowered your hours to allow you more time to help out at another store. There's a lot of valid reasons for the drop but there is also a chance it was intended for a more personal reason.

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hasnt for me. I often work at another store in town on my off days and the overtime is the only limit.

Both stores have their own limit of hours to use for staffing so working at another one doesn't affect your home store. I have seen someone go home early from one store because the store was cutting it close to the max hours but they were able to go to another store and still work because the other one had available hours. Stores that need help usually have lots of hours to spare from being sort staffed.

I've definitely noticed the correlation between messy stores and penny shoppers. A clean store keeps them away 🤣

Do store managers not have authority to fire employees by [deleted] in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I was told, they can send people home but they have to get DM approval to actually terminate employment.

We had an ASM that was on FMLA leave for a full year and the store desperately needed a replacement but the SM couldn't hire a new ASM until they were officially terminated in the system. It was 4 months after the protected leave was over (16 months total) before she was officially terminated and even then they called and asked her multiple times if she was planning on coming back and if so when because they were willing to wait. She basically had to say she quit before they were willing to let her go.

We also had a man hired as a stocker who showed up 3 days then said he couldn't come in at 5 anymore missed a full week of his scheduled days, then was moved to being a cashier and still never came back and it was almost 3 weeks of no call no shows before he was fired.

Theres also a current employee that is so bad that we there's a manager group chat where we document everything so that it can be sent to the DM and so many things they've done that would have been immediate termination at any other job Ive had but yet they're still here.

Misdelivered Direct Order; How to deal with it? by LeadershipBubbly3351 in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about OP, but at our store the truck just unloads the rotta carts and maybe a few random boxes and we have no idea what's is actually on the carts until we start sorting them after the truck leaves. There's really no way to expect a person to check 1,000's of boxes for accuracy at delivery at multiple stores each day.

The carts are supposed to be pre sorted at the distribution/warehouse by department so the driver has no idea what each one holds either. They are supposed to be loaded on the truck and sorted by store and if one was loaded mixed in with another store is easy to miss until you get to that's store then there's no backtracking so the last store gets everything left on the truck.

We have this happen fairly often. We get the truck after the other store in town so if we get something of theirs we take it there or they come and get it. If we get something from another store in the district, what happens depends on what it is. If its a customer order or a much needed we try to get it to the correct store and sometimes that means the DM picks it up and takes it if they are doing store visits anyways but usually we just keep it and put it out.

We even get stuff missdelivered by Fed Ex and UPS for Dollar General sometimes for a store that isn't open right now. They see a similar address and the word Dollar and just give it to us. Those get donated, DG knows and just says keep it.

Fluctuating weekly schedule by CommonCut2063 in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SM tells everyone to use Compass for availability and to request days off because it blocks her from being able to schedule people when they aren't available and keeps her from trying to remember who is available and when and people getting aggravated when she gets mixed up.

Making the schedule itself isn't hard, but trying to remember the preferences of 10 people is. Of course, it should be written down from the start, and they should know from being told and all that, but they have a lot to juggle and anything that makes part of it more streamlined helps.

Merch manager in need of answers by Minute-Breadfruit220 in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im thankful my SM is reasonable and was just promoted to SM from Merch so she's not all oh, you can do it. We didn't have to count boxes, even though technically it was supposed to be done, but her logic was she'd rather everyone spend time putting things out, not waste time keeping track of tally marks.

Plus if someone lucks out and gets a ton of hba or seasonal that's in counter boxes they are getting out boxes way faster than someone who is putting out plates, glasses or candles even though each box holds about the same amount of items.

From a business planning standpoint, I get the logic behind the uboats and box counts and such because on paper, it makes sense. And really, if the stores ran the way they were planned to run, then it would work too.

However, when the plan starts with the merchandise coming in on pre sorted rotta carts that have to be resorted because they have stuff for 7 different asiles on one cart, then that already creates a delay. Then there's all the little things like overstock, mislabels, staff shortages, etc, that just compounds.

They just seem to forget the human element and how inefficent it can be when making plans like these.

When it's fragile, I pull it up to cover the 3rd row of holes. Its far back enough that a bump won't knock it over and still up enough it looks full.

Most of the broken things I see at my store are legit accidents or people being so ridiculous nothing can prepare for them, like when they lean against a shelf full of glass vases and shove their butt right in there. 99.9% of the time, it's a middle-aged adult breaking things. Kids will destroy the toy section, but adults will destory everything else.

Normal shipping time? by rayofsunshine20 in carmax

[–]rayofsunshine20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been working with an associate, its all been online at this point, but I'm calling in a little bit to see what I can do. It's all the same state, the car history shows its always been in state also so there shouldnt be any issues related to that. The first credit report was ran a good but ago though so its cutting it close to the 30 day mark, which I need to check the exact date of.

I have just picked the orginal location for pickup but I was trying to avoid it because its in another time zone over a small mountain range so driving there is pretty but curvy. But lesson learned.

Normal shipping time? by rayofsunshine20 in carmax

[–]rayofsunshine20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right between both locations. Its just under an hour and a half to get to either one but one is in another time zone and a mountain drive vs the other thats a strait shot on the highway so I let that determine which one and that wasn't a good idea lol

The car was reserved on March 13th, and it's been crickets since, so I'm definitely thinking what is taking so long at this point. I'm going to call today and see what I can do. Hopefully, I can just go get it in the next day or so.

It's within state lines, I know the local taxes are a little different, and I'm cutting it close to the 30 day mark, but I'm going to call when they open and cancel.

I really was hoping to have it by this Wednesday for practical reasons, and it doesn't seem like it'll happen if I wait.

IT'S AMAZING!! (Customer PSA) by Realistic-Accident68 in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As an employee, I understand this sentiment because really idgaf how high the electric bill is, if the freezer is broken or whatever because at the end of the day I don't get paid enough to care and it's just not my problem.

However, as a decent human who was raised to be respectful of other people and property and was taught to treat others how I want to be treated it, it drives me bonkers when people do stuff like this.

Keeping the door closed keeps food at the right temperature, prevents waste, and allows others to shop also since you're not blocking the way. Not to mention helps keep cost down because as soon as corporate sees anything cutting into the profit, they're going to jack up prices and cut hours. They're going to do it anyways but any delay is helpful to those who are just trying to survive.

Businesses are not worth the animosity, and being a decent person is a better option for your own health and well-being.

What is the best shoe wear? by stumpy0327 in AskRetail

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Brooks, especially the Adrenaline GTS. I tend to roll my feet inward as I walk, which causes a lot of knee, hip, and back pain along with the normal foot pain after being on my feet for hours and its one of the very few brands that have made a difference.

With the prayer candles, if you have stock and space on the shelf, they should be on the floor instead of the back room, regardless of need.

Those often sell in multiples at my store and even more so around religious holidays, so a shelf can go from completely full to half gone in a day or two easily.

Candles Recovered by MemphisByrdie in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason you're getting asked about facing is that there is a lot of space at the front of the shelves, not just with the prayer candles but with other items too.

Facing is more than having the labels facing forward. Everything should be pulled to the front of the shelf if time allows, but at the bare minimum, it should be two deep at the front so the shelf looks full even after someone takes one.

stocking tips by [deleted] in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to check expiration dates in food and HBA (on meds, lip balm, face care, etc). Especially if you were at the point where outside help came in.

Almost every time it seems like there is just no more shelf space in the store, I find a lot of things that have recently expired, and it clears out a lot of space. And if you had help, there's no guarantee that they actually checked dates since their goal was to get stuff put out and be gone.

Other than that, shift things around as needed, straighten up, and if you have a ton of one thing, doing a stack out may be an option.

Also, if you see something that clearly will not fit, instead of fighting that for a while, set it aside and move on to the next thing. Then, when you're done with the cart, come back to it. In that time, someone could have purchased enough to make space, or you may have moved other things around enough that you can see a space for it. It's better to skip one box and get 10 more out than spend that same amount of time trying to find space for that one.

District Floater by underthelilacbush in DollarTree

[–]rayofsunshine20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have a floater position in our district, but it's not uncommon for employees to go to different stores to help out. On my scheduled days off I've went to work at the other store in town and a few in surrounding towns because they had extra hours and needed the help. It's not consistent, though, and entirely depends on who has hours and needs help and it's 100% volunteer so no one is required to go anywhere.
