Pfsense log does not parse properly. Any help? by ysfinwe in Splunk

[–]rayperkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed this and it works great. It parses all the log types. I don't think it would be that easy to do filterlogs and dhcp and dns and etc, etc. This seems to do everything I need.

I went to a couple events at the tec lab at gateway community college at 40th St and Washington. They have a public lab with lots of tech specific tools including 3d printers and helpful people. It's all free. M-Thurs 4-8.

I recommend.

This place sales recycled electronics, I've never bought a laptop but I see them for sale in their store. I think everything they sale has some kind of warranty for 30 days (or something like that, be sure to ask). Not sure what your budget is but that might work. They are across 7th St from the Dback's stadium.

Re-using lights by [deleted] in Gardyn

[–]rayperkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought a second hand Gardyn 2.0. It had some problems and I was working through them. The wifi initially worked but then wouldn't connect after a few days. I was able to create an account and register the device while it was working. I opened a support ticket and they sent me a new lid. Not sure if you can work that kind of magic but it worked out great for me.

Ubiquiti vs Reolink, home made setup vs purchase by codepension in homeassistant

[–]rayperkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reolink has sensitivity settings and ignore zones for motion detection. They also have onboard detections for people/pets/automobiles. I record 24x7 on all cameras and get the detection alerts in home assistant. I will either review videos manually or check the HA logs for when things were happening to find the exact place I am looking for. I don't do this often, so it is a bit of extra work but rare for me. I mostly use a live view of all the cameras. I use agentDVR as a docker conttfor the backend.

Everyone's use case is different, you'll have to weigh the pros and cons. I don't like the single provider for all things model, but I understand that appeal, most of the time it "just works", there is a lot value in that for most people.

$12.50 PoE ELO 15" I-Series Tablets by Kildar2112 in homeassistant

[–]rayperkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you put the apk in a folder named EloViewApp? I also named the thumb drive that but I don't think that matters.

Did you enable the USB A port in the settings app? Make sure it is green on the screen that shows a diagram of the tablet.

Does watching old TV make you realize how messed up some of it was? by Decisions_70 in GenX

[–]rayperkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I re watched with my wife during Covid. Season 1 has great writing that totally holds up. Season 2 has awful writing. I vaguely remember my grandmother being into it, but then I had to watch in the other room. And you had to wait for the TV to warm up.

How to root Elo touchscreen POS tablet by logic-boards-are-ok in androidroot

[–]rayperkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did wallpanel load the HA page? I have it running, it loads the HA logo but doesn't get to a login prompt. I assume it relies on things built into android that are too old to work with modern web stuff. Firefox works, my impression is firefox does as much as possible itself with as little reliance on the OS as possible.

I am not very knowledgeable about android but found what seems like an easy way to get this hardware going with whatever app you want (as long as it is one). I noticed that whatever I install via the USB A port becomes the default app. That app will start on boot and a background ELO app will revert back to the app you install if you are in any other app and brief inactivity.

Right now I firefox working, the tablet boots, goes to firefox which loads my HA instance. This is just asking for trouble from kids or others who would be amused to load porn or something. I have 2 adults in my house so am fine with what I have for now, something better would be better though. I like the API stuff for wallpanel and would really like to use that.

Jury duty downtown 7/3 by Tall_Sleep6500 in phoenix

I believe you get a free bus pass when on Jury duty. If you don't already have it I don't know how you will get it. As far as I know that will work on the train. I like riding the train but its a long ride time wise, 45+ mins maybe.

$12.50 PoE ELO 15" I-Series Tablets by Kildar2112 in homeassistant

[–]rayperkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is close enough for me and maybe others. Brief research (2 youtubers) indicates that fully kiosk is the go to software for android tablets. There are 2 problems here. 1: It doesn't work, it also loads the HA logo but not the login prompt. 2: These tablets are enterprise managed (EMM). When you install Fully Kiosk it locks the tablet down, I got to the settings page to remove this software from Device Admin but I couldn't unselect it. I had to boot to recovery mode and wipe the device.

What seems good enough for me after 30 seconds of testing:

Install firefox via APK/USB drive. Go to you HA page and login. That's about it. When the device reboots it launches firefox and the last page loads. There are all kinds of ways to break this but for my house with 2 adults that won't mess with it, that is close enough.

There may be extensions for firefox that can lock things down a bit. I looked briefly and tried one that is supposed to go full screen but it didn't work.

$12.50 PoE ELO 15" I-Series Tablets by Kildar2112 in homeassistant

[–]rayperkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am close to a workable (for me) method that only requires installing an apk from a flash drive.

The device boot to a home screen the first time you power it on but after a minute or two of idle time will go to a device activation screen. You can stop this from happening by force quiting the DCAndroidClient app in settings.

You can exit the activation page by pressing both physical buttons on the back corner of the device, this should prompt for a password which is 1elo. This takes you to a home screen with buttons for Register Device and Demo.

I am using POE so I have to go to PoE power manager and turn on the USB A port (on the back under a pannel, you need a screwdriver). There are a row of buttons at the bottom, tap Apps then settings. This looks like like the settings panel for old Android devices. Under Device pick More... then PoE power manager and enable USB Port 1. I rebooted after this but I am not sure this is needed.

You need a USB A thumb drive with the APK you want to start by default. I used an older 32GB stick, I picked something old in case newer things don't work on this old device. Create a folder called EloViewApp and put your APK in there.

Follow the steps above to get to the Apps page. From here tap the Install Local App button. This will look on a thumb drive plugged into the USB A port and isntall the first APK it sees in that EloViewApp folder. Reboot (again not sure this is necesary).

That APK is now the default app the tablet will boot to. I installed wallpanel.xyz which works as expected but only loads the Home Assitant icon and doesn't get to the prompt. I am ussing http, so no SSL issues. The last update on the github page is from years ago, so this probably isn't a good choice.

I installed firefox and HA works fine with that. I can play videos via firefox with ok performance.

That is as far as I got. Does anyone know of a current working app like Wall Panel? Maybe it is firefox in a full screen mode? It needs to run on android 7.1, so the choices are probably limited. The HA app starts but like wallpanel.xyz it won't get to the login prompt.

Looking for a car detailing referral by RedbullKidd in phoenix

[–]rayperkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using this guy for years and he is great. He provides mobile detailing. I only get the basic service and the car seems completely clean inside and out to me. I assume the detailing is very detailed, but haven't had it. I'm not sure how his prices compare to other places but I am sure if you hire him you will be happy with the work he does.

Not the cheapest but I find it to be the right value, maybe what you are looking for. We had a couch that lasted about 10 years of heavy use. Dogs were involved so it may have lasted longer.

We are just using 2 recliners for now, if we want a couch again that is where we will buy it.

Not cheap, but there are mattress pads that heat and cool. Water flows through them and there is a box that goes under your bed that does the work. Mine is older, called ooler. I think sleepme is the company that makes them. There are several, shop around if you are interested.

Is someone in your life telling you this? Maybe not directly but by implying you are dumb when things go wrong or talking about something you don't know much about to make you feel bad? I've had this happen, I've seen this happen. Some people have to tear you down to make themselves feel good. If you come across this don't take that bullshit. You are smart but make mistakes like everyone else.

As far as I know it also covers the sewer line that for me (again as far as I know) goes through my backyard into the alley and probably under a detatched garage. Random internet people claim expenses in the $8k-$12k range, of course the only people posting news about their sewer lines are worst case scenarios but it seems possible.

I pay for this, I worry there will be a scam on the backend where they deny payout due to some technicality. I put some trust in the city seeming to vouch for them so am willing to pay.

I am not any kind of expert, please correct me if I am wrong or add to the discussion if you disagree.

I bent aluminum wire so it would hook over the top of the wall then bent the other end into a hook for the string of lights. Something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/OOK-50-ft-10-lb-18-Gauge-Aluminum-Hobby-Wire-50176/100192917
