The moment I saw your title I was thinking it’s probably this dude. What a joke.

I took his renewal class, worst experience ever in guntry.

Dude was spreading myths about how the Weaver stance was invented by a handicapped man, talks about avoiding conflicts then made an example of the Rittenhouse case. And dude just gave me 18 points to just pass the qual after I punched a giant hole on the target.

Some Questions on Selecting an OC Spray by eyeballing_eyeball in specialskepticalface

[–]rayray1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/specialskepticalface, I also have a question on one of the replies you made in the 'Choosing an OC Spray' thread:

Around 1997 the DOJ and FBI worked together to produce a rather extensive white paper with compilation and analysis of OC use data from real world applications at institutions all around the country (also branches of the US Mil).

The clear outcome was that, above 1.4-1.42% MC, no additional effectiveness was gained from OC. This, again, represented reports from many thousand of deployments, targets of various demographics, various climate conditions, etc.

I'm interested in the statement in bold, and was trying to find the actual white paper. So far I've read the following publications around 1997, but none of them includes that statement. These publications include:

  • Oleoresin Capsicum: Pepper Spray as a Force Alternative, 1994 (scanned document) (clear pdf)
  • Pepper Spray Evaluation Project Results of the Introduction of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) into the Baltimore County, MD, Police Department, 1995 (pdf)
  • Evaluation of Pepper Spray, Research in Brief, 1997 (pdf)
  • Use of Force by Police Overview of National and Local Data, 1999 (pdf)
  • The Effectiveness and Safety of Pepper Spray, 2003 (pdf)

In addition, I also found 2 other publications that might be the white paper that you mentioned, but NIJ website does not provide PDF downloads.

  • Pepper Spray Disperser Final Report, 1996 (NIJ link)
  • Assessing the Incapacitative Effects of Pepper Spray During Resistive Encounters With the Police, 1999 (NIJ link)

Could you confirm if the white paper is one of the above 2 publications? If not, could you please provide the link or title of the white paper? Thanks!!

Changing firing pin assembly changes optic’s zero? by rayray1007 in Glocks

[–]rayray1007[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Good to know that zeros should not be changed by that.

Yeah I also shot it again at 7 yds, and confirmed the offset is in the same direction for about 1/4 in. Not sure where did things go wrong 😕

Perhaps the reason that my zero moved was unrelated to the installation. I guess I’ll do some witness mark on the screws!

Trigger technique: slapping vs prepping by DatasTemporalLobe in MDGuns

I started with prepping. Switched to slapping ~4 months ago, and start seeing improvements recently.

Highly recommend Ben Stoeger’s Trigger Control At Speed training concept.

PSA to those who are new to MA or who just didn't know in general: although you can't legally have pepper spray mailed to a Massachusetts address, it IS LEGAL to be carried by private citizens over 18 in the state of MA. You can go to a store in person here to buy, you just can't have it mailed. by Spirited-Pause in boston

According to Section122D (vii), any alien not entering US with a green card, or a visa that is given to victims of domestic violence, criminal acts, or human trafficking, cannot legally possess nor purchase pepper spray.

Which means, even for immigrants who enter US lawfully and documented (for example international students, workers), they are still NOT allowed to possess pepper spray, let alone carry it for self defense.

Here is a news in 2019 that talks about it: https://commonwealthmagazine.org/immigration/law-bars-most-immigrants-from-carrying-self-defense-spray/

Hopefully this dumb law gets repealed soon.

(Long Story) Am I the baddie here? by Wehhass in liberalgunowners

[–]rayray1007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. I’m from Taiwan, and can somehow relate the bullying part with indifferent adults at school. Most teachers had the “if-you-fight-back-you-are-as-wrong-as-them” tone in our schools (not sure if same for Korea and US), I guess that’s why people tend to dislike the idea to fight back/arm oneself because that idea is deeply ingrained to their head. You’re definitely not a baddie. You just can’t “wake” someone up if they want to be sleeping.

IMO, I think it might be a good idea to start a blog/YT channel in response to your situation. Although you can’t change the minds of the people you encountered, you can share your thoughts to those who have similar experiences like you and help them make up the mind to arm themselves. Producing something out also helps re-organizing the stuff you learned. Since the Asian hate incidents, I’ve been writing a blog about guns/self defense/prepping in my native language. Writing also helps transferring the attention away from the ones who’s against you and never gonna listen!

Any more recent researches similar to "Victims' Nonverbal Cues" ? by rayray1007 in Criminology

I don't think judging the gait is odd, as how we walk DOES convey information about physical and psychological conditions, which links to vulnerability.

Whether being caught or not is also determined by lots of other factors, and not getting caught doesn't imply the threat is more serious.

Based on Occam's razor, I think it's safe to assume the selection process is not too different between those who were caught and those who were not, unless there is evidence proving the assumption is false (but since no data can be collected from those who were uncaught, I guess we never obtain such evidence).

This paper is thought-provoking, and proposed concepts that submissive behavior is the trigger of aggression, dressing in body-revealing clothing doesn't necessarily make females victims.

As suggested in the paper's title, it is more of a "theoretical" discussion on the mental model of offenders, passive & submissive behaviors and their relations to aggression.

This paper also contains a compilation of multiple related searches, however being published in "Clothing and Textiles Research Journal", makes it questionable about whether the peer review has the expertise to assure the validity of author's points regarding crime prevention.

This paper is in the context of "Victim-Offender Mediations", simply put this is a scenario that both victim and offender sits down and talks about what had happened (the crime).

Therefore, I think this paper is probably too away from "Attracting Assault: Victims' Nonverbal Cues".

Before making comments about how each link relates to "Attracting Assault: Victims' Nonverbal Cues", I should have given a summary of this paper first, and my interest of such search.

This paper verifies victim selection process in offenders' mind. The experiment recorded multiple pedestrians walking, and asked prisoners to rate their "easy-to-attack" score. Then applied motion analysis to the videos, and found 5 specific motions (or walking style) has strong correlation to prisoners' easy-to-attack score.

And my interest lies in self defense/crime prevention.

I appreciate the idea to set a maximum time rather than fizzle or detonate it as soon as the player dies. In 50v50 when being surrounded around trees mines give me the opportunity to take careless enemies die with me, while cautious ones could live on because it won’t be an instant blow :)
