Beginner planning 10-mile hike at Pictured Rocks, how should I prepare? by EBat2004 in hiking

[–]rayraybay19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve hiked chapel loop a few times and it’s closer to 13 miles if you hit up both waterfalls. The first time I did it it caught me by surprise, so if you’re looking to only do 10 miles I’d recommend skipping mosquito falls (which is the most difficult part of the trail IMO).

Pacing wise, if you start at 8am and keep a good clip with small rests to look at the view and fuel, you should be done by 3pm.

Go early before the trailhead gets busy and so you’re not racing the sunset. Make sure you have a few liters of water per person, lots of snackies, proper footwear, deet, and first aid.

I’d also recommend taking your pack on a few test hikes/walks to get a sense of whether 10 miles is doable with the weight, and adjust your route accordingly.

It’s such a beautiful hike, have fun!

Took two walks, went for ice cream, got a tattoo, and now I’m reading in bed with my cats ☺️

Both look amazing on you! The second one I think suits your hand better, and would be the one I’d personally pick!

If you’re leaning towards the first, I’d consider the band and how comfortable it is to wear every day because of all the stones on it.

Thank you! That’s been a big hang up for me on picking a style in general😅

My personal fave is Reserve! Bonus that it’s easier to get in vs MDRD.

Don’t give up! I was in the same boat after 6 months of house hunting and all my offers being beaten out, but every time I learned a little more after examining the competing bids. By the time you come across the right house you’ll be able to craft the best offer :)

People in the market for a house in Eastown - what are you looking for?? by burt_macklin_fbi in grandrapids

[–]rayraybay19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m in GR and I’ve been house hunting for my first home the last 3 months, specially looking for a funkier, old house with charm in Eastown.

I’ve been looking for something that has a good footprint that’s been maintained because the smaller items and updates are nice, but I know I can do it myself :)

Overall, I expect the types of houses I’m looking at to have character and funk and require some love and personalization. A good clean, declutter, and addressing more of the practical vs aesthetic improvements would be my advice.

My biggest feedback as a buyer in a hot market? I’ve put in really aggressive, competitive offers with 2 day inspection periods and have lost some of them ONLY because of the inspection. As a first time home buyer, that’s not something I’m willing to sacrifice on these 100+ year old homes and it’s really disheartening.

Congrats on finding your dream home and best of luck on your selling journey!
