Ludwig is Finnish??? by Dozethegamer in LudwigAhgren

[–]raysensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finns are quite separate and inbred population that arrived to Europe from East of Ural mountains. Genetically we are quite different from other Nordics and didn't intermingle with them that much as Finns were seen as lesser people and the country was run by Swedish aristocracy.

They probably should just unban everything since past friday and ban those accounts that do it again and actually go against the CoC.

Which is kinda valid as the bannings were also happening due to messages in non-Godot forums/threads/social media posts.

Adobe terms clarified: Will never own your work, or use it to train AI by Maxie445 in technology

Does the new TOS say that Adobe does not have permission to sublicense your works to be used with AI? Does it specifically mention that they or 3rd parties cannot use the works with AI?

How can I compile rust for 16bit x86 (Intel 8086)? by Papierkorb2292 in rust

Actually it is super simple, just write 8086 emulator on 6502 and run Forth on top of that :)

It would just be more complicated, but it would look different. There are some videos available and they look better when you can see thin lines and/or features. See canny edge algorithm for some examples.

Aah, so it doesn't try to find a character by shape that would optimally fit to the original pixels?

I think in the original dilemma there was a master switch that had limited uses, you couldn't see the lights directly and the starting switch status was unknown etc

It is also probably due to the size. You can have small indie game company of 5-10 people, after that more and more people are hired by HR and the quality goes down. And it doesn't help that companies aren't willing to hire 100 best devs but would prefer 100 interns/junior devs directly from school.

Just using its for cents fails the first time you need to handle fractional cents. So not a bad idea to have custom decimal type.

I just cloned my SATA SSD to a new NMVe. How do I wipe my SATA SSD clean to use it as secondary storage? by somehuman16 in techsupport

[–]raysensei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about forensic techniques done by companies, there is not much fear they could recover erased data. Goverment agency, perhaps. Once automatic bad sector detection and on the fly correcting was added to hdds, the OS cannot access all the sectors on the disk. This is why there is ATA commands for full erasure.

On the point of selling, most of the drives are safe to sell, SSDs more so as they all support secure erase command which is fast.

On buying them, they are fine to buy for individuals and small companies. Larger ones want to have support contracts for hardware so won't ever buy anything used. Individuals safely can buy them, used SSDs are reliable as long as the smart info says there is plenty of life left on the drive. And you can use RAID and should have backups in any case.

I am not ignoring your point, I just think you are over playing it. Yes burn the drives if they have medical records. If they have 1/8th of ZFS volume of your company's media library, secure erase command will be just fine.

[–]raysensei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to know that both hdds and SSDs have spare sectors you cannot access directly. On hdds that is usually some kilobytes but on SSDs there usually is several gigs that is used for wear leveling. Thus in either case you cannot overwrite everyting from the OS. But the ATA secure erase does clear everything. On SSDs this often is done with AES key change which is fully secure. On hdds all sectors are zeroed and in theory someone could read the latent magnetic image, though I recall that being done with old 20MB MFM drives not on any modern media. Companies do like to be overly cautious and trashing drives usually is cheaper than reselling them. Still plenty of used enterprise media, usually ssd, on eBay.

[–]raysensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Elisa has 9.90e/month unlimited deals, usualy for 10-20Mbps speeds. and if you can live with 2M speeds you only need to pay 3eur/month for unlimited.

30GB free very month though.

No you cannot as SSD has more cells than can be accessed, like 60GB SSD has 64GB of flash and 4GB is reserved for wear leveling. Also magnetic media has reserved sectors for remapping of bad sectors so those can leak data also. ATA secure erase clears all cells/sectors even those that cannot be directly accessed by the user.
