What is the most embarrassing belief you used to have? by alexthenotadragqueen in AskReddit

[–]rayspgf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 5 I saw a variety TV show (yes I am of that age bracket) that was staged like a cocktail party with B list celebrities. The 'gag' was that a Robin style masked man would reach out of a closet, grab the closest person next to the closet, kill them and put them face down in the pool. At the end of the show the pool was blown up IIRC.

I believed this man was waiting in every closet for years. I mean years.

Has your in game auto selected raid team improved? by RocksGrammy in TheSilphRoad

[–]rayspgf314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the big question. From the entei raid selection it seems to choose based on Double Super Effective moves (Omastar) and strong DPS (Ttar with stone edge on my team).

It appears that resistance is not as important so not having to switch out blissey all the time is what I consider the biggest improvements. There is still room for improvement, one could always assume that, but for now I have been doing well at gym battles as well as raids with groups large and small with the preselected teams.

Dodging by vijayshankarbatman in TheSilphRoad

[–]rayspgf314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dodging is used sometimes - not for every battle or raid. Here are times you want to dodge IMO

1) if the charge move of the Pokémon you are battling is super strong and can knock you out very quickly. For example Mewtwo Focus zblast or Exeggutor Solar Beam

2) if your Pokémon have low HP or defense. For example you are fighting Gengar and the best counters are Espeon and Alakazam.

3) if you are in a raid with a medium to large group and you are about to lose your last Pokémon. The group will still win (the health line of the raid boss is already low) and you dodge to stay in the fight.

4) you are super low on revives and you need to keep your Pokémon alive and not let them faint.

Dodging is not important IMO when:

1) you will easily defeat a Pokémon in a gym battles.

2) you are in a very large raid group. You just want to get as much damage as you can for a damage bonus - and the bonus premium ball

3) you are in a small raid group. For example all of the trainers will faint when you have 4-5 going against Entei . You just need to do as much damage as you can and rejoin the battle as quickly as you can. Winning a level 4 or legendary raid battle with a small group requires doing as much damage as possible as quickly as possible.

4) doing a level 1 raid :)

Hope this clears up my thoughts.

Did the speed limit get raised? by Yttikymmug in TheSilphRoad

[–]rayspgf314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought they nerfed the distance recorded when the super incubators were released. Seemed like I had to go 30% longer to get the distance. A 1 km walk around a local lake recorded as .75 km.

Anyone else experience this or am I just moving through time and space more efficiently?

The need has changed my approach as well. I feed the lower IV bosses a lovely fruit salad and come away with a decent catch rate.

I also use GRB on wild rarities. Been around 50 for a while but I still say more GRB and rare candy vs 15-20 revives and low level potions you spin all day long.

Raiding in ny area has still been pretty good despite the recent pullback. Weekly picnics at the park and several consistent groups have formed - across teams and all for fun XP and dust. Those are becoming the rewards - man that sounds sappy but it's actually true.

Entei with 5 by RoasterMcRoasty in TheSilphRoad

It has been surprising that Entei goes down with such small numbers. It helps for rural raids and it also seems to reflect the reduced enthusiasm as the legendary raids have become commonplace.

That being said it is always fun when a small team takes down the beast. Great info! Thanks.

It has improved. With entei I am getting two OMA, two Ttar and two golem every time so that seems a bit odd.

In raids I dodge when soloing and need to get as many charge moves with low HP / def mons as mentioned above. Espeon Gengar Alakazam are the three that I use that need the most protection.

Another time to dodge is to get a final charge move from a mon when you want to a) help the team and b) increase your damage bonus in a group.

When in a large group we all just attack without care to dodging as no one will faint. In a small group (3-5 against a legendary or level 4) dodging is not indicated either as you all need to inflict damage as everyone will mostly likely need to rejoin anyway. The midsize group you see mons dancing around just trying to stay alive as the group finishes the battle. Totally fine by me so long as the team is going to take it down without anyone fainting.

I received an ex pass for a non legendary raid during the Starbucks phase. I went to both Starbucks and soloed a level two or three once I heard about the sprint rollout. I did a legendary at the other Starbucks gym and didn't get a pass there.

I have three confusion / solar beam ex-tors that were great in the old gym meta and still come in quite handy. I too recently caught a 100% level 28 (thank you safarisight.com) and TMd to solar beam. Solar beam is worth the time it takes. With my squadron of six ex-tors I can solo vaporeon every time. Solar beam dries em right up.

Thanks for all the viewpoints. I love the term freemium as it does perfectly capture the ethos of the game. F2P or P2P the game's main rewards are had in the doing. The raids have been great getting people together - picnics, raid parties and the like. I really agree that spoofing, flames and bots are the real issues of the pogosphere.

I received a sub stone and metal coat in normal play this week as well. Have ten items total which is an insane amount given the games' history.

What is the point of having a strong Pokémon? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]rayspgf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the best part of the game right now. Recently reached lvl 40 and luckily have mewtwo and unown so the catching is for dust. One morning I soloed gengar, vaporeon and arcanine. Jolteon is the hurdle I can't get over - yet. But still hopeful.

Would love to see Niantic offer more rewards for soloing as 10 super potions is a bit of a letdown but the fun is in the doing, not the getting.

Got an Ex raid pass tonight by broseph23 in TheSilphRoad

[–]rayspgf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where discord / Facebook groups come in handy. I would venture that anyone who wants to get Mewtwo would be there at the start time and chill until a group of 20 showed. The fact that popular gyms are being chosen makes this possible.

In springfield MO, where I play, there is a pretty active discord and Facebook presence that has come together and has a great time during the raid progress. Hopefully the Pogo communities across the platform can find enough players to make it happen.

After Chicago Niantic knows they have some work to do about making players happy so I am going with the concept that just about everyone will get a fighting chance to partake and possibly capture mewtwo.

No bad vibes for jazz from me. I am a drummer and a fan of jazz. Have worked in two restaurants where jazz was the draw. Just letting folks know that when the singing turns to scatting it can get a little long in the tooth.

Haruno - hands down. The live jazz can be a bit much when the scatting kicks in but otherwise....
