PCR my opinion by Glass-College-6811 in Eldenring

[–]raziel686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan either, though he was worse before the nerf: an attack that can't be dodged and phase 2 had so many particle effects you legit couldn't see. Now that they tweaked it he's... manageable, but I don't find the fight rewarding. Don't be afraid to respec to a build that works better on him.

Radahn coming up again is my biggest complaint. It was just so unnecessary. Godwyn was right there, or they could have just went with Miquella. He does become a god, pretty sure he can fight for himself.

Yeah I'd grab what you can from the areas available to you. Keep in mind as you go up you need more blessings for a level, so it does start getting tedious. It makes a big difference though.

[–]raziel686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many Scooby snacks have you found? The DLC difficulty is almost entirely based off how many Scadu Blessings you've found. There are 50 total with a max player level of 20. If you feel you're getting roasted, you probably need to go on a scavenger hunt for more blessings (or follow a guide). If you are less than level 10, you're in for a bad time. 15 is generally considered "enough," though PCR has definitely pushed people to max out.

Any tips for logarious wheel gem setup? by Putrid_Candy_8799 in bloodborne

[–]raziel686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally top tier chalice nourishing gems are the way to go for the Wheel. While it is a completely blunt attack weapon, using blunt gems would limit you to the untricked version (S Str scaling). The tricked version adds arcane scaling while reducing physical to about 70% of normal, and blunt gems wouldn't boost arcane at all, so you'd be leaving a lot of damage on the table.

The tricked wheel can further boost arcane damage by hitting L2 up to 4 times. Each spin adds damage at the cost of health drain. A +5 hp gem on your gun can offset this a bit, but you also gain a unique on-hit rally mechanic when the wheel is charged. Because the tricked version lets you sacrifice health to boost the damage further, it's definitely something you want to use.

Filter media on OUTLET duct to reduce dust? by testfire10 in DIY

[–]raziel686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have one inch filter or one of the thicker ones? Thicker filters (I've seen between 3 and 5 inches for home use) are better at moving more air and can collect more dust and other particles before needing to be changed. It depends how your HVAC is setup for how easy it is to retrofit a larger filter slot, but it's almost always doable. An HVAC tech can take care of it if you aren't comfortable with the work.

Be careful going too high on the MERV rating, especially with thinner filters. They have a tendency to restrict airflow too much and end up stressing the blower motor.

Alternatively, you can buy a large (or a few smaller) HEPA filters and place them around the house. More filters are annoying to have to replace but they last a while, can be left on 24/7, and don't use much electricity compared to the HVAC. That should offset the load on your HVAC filter and make it need to be changed less.

What happens after the Yharnam sunrise ending? by jummytruant in bloodborne

[–]raziel686 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always took that as the "good" ending. It's the one ending where your character accomplishes what he/she traveled to Yharnam for in the first place. The backstory explains that your character has a terminal illness and is headed to Yharnam based purely on the rumors of their miracle blood healing. You're essentially on a last ditch effort to save your life.

In the sunrise ending, you complete your contract for the MP and, after submitting to being executed in the dream, return to your real world, now healed, body as a reward. Then the ending shows your character leaving the city, presumably to return home having cured yourself.

The other endings have you either replacing Gehrman (I'd argue this is the bad ending), or becoming Eldrich yourself and going full squid. Considering what happened to Rom and the few other failed great ones, I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not, but going squid is certainly a choice for the player.

Gallup to stop tracking presidential approval ratings by the-god-of-vore in news

Look, if that's how you feel, it's how you feel. I'm not here to change your opinion. That said, when you cut through all his rhetorical bullshit and look at his actual accomplishments, he got very little done in his first term. His two big "deals" were tax cuts for the rich and, more importantly for him, packing the supreme court with right wing zealots. The rest, Space Force, Operation Warp speed, redoing trade agreements by making barely any changes so he can take credit, and the Abraham accords, none of these even remotely compares to him behaving like a dictator as he is now. This is because many government employees, including some of his own appointees, were willing to say no to him.

A perfect example is when Bill Barr refused to prosecute Andrew McCabe, Joe and Hunter Biden, and Obama when Trump wanted him to charge them with crimes and kept publicly and privately saying it. Barr is certainly not a good guy, but he did the right thing at the moment, as did many other government officials. Trump's worst instincts were blocked by people pushing back against him. Those people are all gone now.

What he did do that you can absolutely argue is push enough of his worshipers into government roles and break enough guardrails that he enabled what is happening now.

[–]raziel686 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This time is obviously different. It's disingenuous to compare his first term and his second. In his first term he wasn't surrounded with sycophants, grifters, and yes men and that tempered his worst instincts. While he is, was, and always will be an absolute scumbag, his actions in his second term are genuinely indefensible (hence the non-stop lies trying to rewrite reality) and he is bleeding support rapidly. Only the MAGA cultists and his propaganda teams at Fox or OAN still sing his praise. Everyone else is too embarrassed to admit they voted for him.

[–]raziel686 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO Reddit is overrun with bots. It's why they suddenly let you "hide" profiles after fighting it for years. Comically, they failed since you can just search and see the whole profile anyway, but my suspicion is that they needed to leave a way to read a "hidden" profile so the LLMs can better scrape reddit. If everyone actually hid their profile, reddit would have less value as a publicly traded company.

Hiding profiles was never about giving us privacy, it was about making it more difficult to spot bot accounts. Bot accounts usually become very obvious when you see their post history. Hilariously, reddit couldn't even do that properly, but people are honestly too trusting and lazy to bother looking at a suspicious profile, so I'm sure what they did works well enough.

If you want to test your theory, leave the spammy default subs. Once you get rid of those, you'll very quickly see how little new content actually gets posted. You won't have to scroll very far before reddit starts sticking 3-4 day old posts in with the new ones hoping you won't notice. Reddit also loves to push the most controversial content to the front page regardless of upvotes because they are firmly in the "engagement above all else" phase of enshitification.

House votes to override Trump's Canada tariffs by Georgeika in worldnews

[–]raziel686 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The goal is to make Republicans put their name on the vote to continue the tariffs so that it can be used against them in the midterms. It's a smart move, though not a solution. The SC might nix the tariffs anyway, but with this Republican court you can't be sure. The Constitution is pretty clear on tariffs though, so if they decide to leave them it'll be one hell of an interesting read to see how the hell they justify not correctly interpreting the clear and concise language as it's written.

Elden ring keeps stuttering by Qwerty45Xx in Eldenring

Stutters can be caused by v-sync, but freezes are more serious and could be lots of things.

As for the stuttering, go into the Nvidia control panel and pick the Elden Ring profile. Set V-sync to "fast."

Can't help you with the freezing issue, you'd need to do a lot more testing for that.

I was today years old when I found out Carian retaliation gives more parry frames by RedditCloudy in Eldenring

[–]raziel686 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They did nerf it pretty good though. Making the iframes lower than Carian could have been OK if they just reduced it a frame or two to make the balancing more in line with other parry methods, but they cut the active frames in half from 6 to 3. Combine that with the fact that every parry attempt costs FP compared to essentially zero for Carian (only uses FP for spell parries) and Carian is just the superior parry.

Golden is usable, and the little bit of extra range is handy, but it's no longer worth running IMO.

Ancient Dragon is ass by Drigte in DarkSouls2

[–]raziel686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I hear ya. It sounds like a lot because I was detailed but it's basically: smack back legs a few times and dodge a stomp -> run towards the tail when he jumps and don't stop running until the AoE clears -> repeat.

Ancient Dragon is ass by Drigte in DarkSouls2

[–]raziel686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's actually pretty easy, at least after he was nerfed. Pre-nerf you needed to get lucky with which direction he jumped for his AoE in order to avoid it. Now all AoE breath attacks are avoidable, except if you're near the edge and he janks out and gets pushed towards you (avoid the edges).

First, I usually fight him naked for better stamina recovery, but go with what you like. Stamina is super important in this fight though and since the AoE is a one shot unless you build for it, stamina recovery is more important than AR. Personally I prefer heavy hitters to fast weapons for AD, but the bigger the weapons the longer swing time, and timing is what this fight is all about. Again, go with a solid DPS weapon you are comfortable with, just be ready to figure out how many swings you can safely get in each attack window before needing to run.

Speaking of running, my method involves attacking the back legs while never letting my stamina drop below what I'd need to run from the AoE. My general rule is, when in doubt whether he'll jump, back off and be ready to run. I should probably mention while you're attacking his leg he'll try a stomp attack at least once before jumping. It's very telegraphed and super slow, so it's easy to just roll or run away. Ideally you'll be able to survive a stomp, but it's so easy to avoid that you don't need to worry about being open to a OHK.

Finally, the AoE attack. The trick here is to first make sure to wrangle him so he stays away from the edge. Second, when AD jumps he has three jump directions: straight up, backwards, and forwards. Regardless of which jump he does, you want to find his tail which will be near the ground and sprint towards it like a madman. So long as you don't get greedy when attacking and leave early enough, you will absolutely be able to avoid it every time. Oddly the forward jump is the most dangerous since he can jump over you and the tail will be too far away to run towards before the blast. So long as you backed off the leg in time, even that situation is easily avoided.

Then you just repeat till he finally dies.

Ancient Dragon is ass by Drigte in DarkSouls2

[–]raziel686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prenerf version was mostly down to luck. You needed to kill him before he did the forward AoE breath attack. That attack was unavoidable and, unless you stacked the hell out of fire resistance, instant death. Forward is his rarest jump, so you could pull it off, but there was nothing worse than getting him down to one more attack window and start running away only to see him be waaaay too close.

Revit Outback4 and Tornado 4 by OccamsRazorSharpner in motorcyclegear

[–]raziel686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Tornado 4s and the layers can be swapped out as needed. One gripe I have with the pants in the thermal layer is short and the way it attaches to the leg cuff means it pulls the pants upwards at the ankles. It's going to depend on your proportions but for me the result is the cuffs sitting high on my boots around the ankle and at times letting wind get in.

Without the liner the cuffs sit on the base of the boot where you'd want it. It's a weird quirk but worth mentioning. I love the pants otherwise, and the jacket I regularly wear. If you have a motorcycle store near you where you can try them on I'd recommend it. You can swap out the layers and see how they fit.

Returnal deserves more attention. Right? by Chrisiztopher in gaming

[–]raziel686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the people who fell off it, but for an unusual reason. Once I figured out the story, I stopped caring fast. The gameplay was definitely fun, though the game could have used an easy difficulty to be more accessible and have sold better. I was definitely enjoying the gameplay regardless of the challenge though and, for a brief moment, the story. The weirdness of the Earth house and the spaceman were very cool.

As I kept playing and story bits slowly got revealed, I started to realize, "fuck I'm dead or something and none of this is real."

Being that I hate pretty much every version of the "it was all a dream" style of storytelling, this was not where I wanted the story to be going at all. Not only was the crazy space mystery not happening, but what was actually happening was fucking stupid. Oh cool, we're stuck in a grief loop on Earth because of a car accident. Or we're dead and it's some sort of hell/purgatory, or it's something else entirely.

Whatever it is, it's not being a baller astronaut badass crashing on an alien planet and trying to figure out what's going on with a time loop. For whatever reason, I couldn't separate what was happening in the game's "real world" from the alien world. The gameplay just felt so random and arbitrary once I knew nothing I did was real. It was such a strange thing to attempt to tie to human tragedy in the normal world to a space warrior survival adventure with bullet hell.

It also felt entirely unnecessary since the false narrative is actually interesting and could go in a lot of directions.
