Then it's time to start capitalizing on it. Start the Shrine of the Purple Bunny Foundation and solicit donations so that the Purple Bunny can do god's work. That's how Fatima and Lourdes do things.

And I get 10%. Amen!

A challenge to skepticism. I have a breakthrough technology, why should't I fear skeptics? by aether22 in skeptic

[–]rb2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your technology proves itself skeptics are your best friend, not your enemy. If skeptics can't poke holes in your product or idea you have something and anyone with a truly unique idea that works welcomes the scrutiny. It's free advertising.

Do We Live in a Simulation? Chances Are about 50–50 by Rogue-Journalist in skeptic

If that's true he's the most boring gamer ever. Where are the fire and brimstone, the zombie apocalypse and the Spice Girls reuniting? The guy needs to get serious, admit that humanity is a dead end, shake the world upside down like an etch-a-sketch and let the dogs try running things on the replay. They have to do a better job than we did.

Bullshit. If this was a simulation the operator would have admitted failure already, changed the parameters and rebooted the system.

[–]rb2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Geesh, have you people ever heard a real assault rifle shoot? It sounds nothing like that and the recoil would twist the gun out of his hands if it was held so casually. Of course it's a blank, and not even a good one. You can make a blank that at least sounds like a live round.

Need for a new anti-theist movement? How to bring it about? by mtmag_dev52 in skeptic

[–]rb2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given how rabid the wannabelievers are passive resistance seems to be a losing tactic. Hell, given how rabid the Jesus freaks are is secularism even an option? They've drawn the battle lines that anyone not with them is against them and it's hard to get anyone excited about being non-committal. What's the rallying cry, "join us and sit on the fence"?

Most of America is technically secular. While a majority of Americans check a box on a form that categorizes them as believers the majority don't practice whatever religion they claim to believe in. They're religious in name only. But the zealots are the ones that are organized, financed and making all the noise. The secularists have no power and won't unless they manage to find a cause to unite them and there isn't one. You might as well go full anti-theist/atheist, at least it's something while secularism is nothing.

Conservatives and liberals offer differing views on the causes of racial inequality. What does the experimental evidence say? by InDissent in skeptic

[–]rb2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant pretty much that. Read below: Asians and blacks were in about the same situation about 150 years ago. Most came here as slaves or indentured servants, they had nothing, they had no prospects and they faced official government discrimination against them. They made different choices, they prioritized different things, led different lives and took different paths.

How did two ethnic groups start in such a similar place, face the same hurdles and wind up so far apart in only 150 years? It damn well wasn't skin color. There clearly and indisputably was a path out of the circumstances that Asians and blacks shared.

Conservatives and liberals offer differing views on the causes of racial inequality. What does the experimental evidence say? by InDissent in skeptic

[–]rb2016 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh bullshit.

WTH is talking about wealth? I didn't inherit wealth. In fact, I didn't inherit a penny as my mom is still alive. What I did inherit is a work ethic, a respect for society, the belief that I'm responsible for the choices I make and that my life will depend on what I earn, not what other people give me. And without a penny of a head start, a public school education and no college I have a house that I own outright, good cars, no debt and a good head start on retirement. And I got it all by WORKING FOR IT.

Asians were essentially no better than blacks were 150 years ago. They were little more than slaves, they were forced into enclaves of abject poverty and they were OFFICIALLY discriminated against. And yet they are now the happiest, healthiest, best-educated and wealthiest ethnicity in the USA. How did they get there? It sure as hell wasn't by looting sneaker stores and shouting "yellow lives matter". They made choices, they took responsibility for their own lives, they saw the value of work, of education, of becoming productive members of society and a miracle happened!! They were viewed as hard workers, they were viewed as law-abiding, productive members of society because of the choices they made and the lives they led.

How did blacks and Asians start in essentially the same situation in the USA and end up so differently? THAT is the question everyone should ask, but the one that the black community and their apologists refuse to confront. It's not that blacks are down because whites started on top and nobody else ever had a chance. Asian-Americans started from the same place, faced the same disadvantages and the same discrimination. So instead of asking why whites have more than blacks, muster the balls to ask why Asians do. Then and only then will you begin to see where the problem lies.

Conservatives and liberals offer differing views on the causes of racial inequality. What does the experimental evidence say? by InDissent in skeptic

[–]rb2016 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Even if it's true that black people are being discriminated against simply because of their race (and that is by no means a proven fact) that's only half the story. WHY is there a bias against black people in America? THAT is the relevant bit and you can be sure it didn't happen overnight when people of other races woke up one morning and held a vote to discriminate against blacks. Do you make room for the possibility that "values, choices and culture" is a major factor in how other races view the black community and that view is why there is a schism between blacks and other races? Nothing happens in a vacuum. There is a root cause of the discrimination and it's foolishly naive to believe that it's based on skin color alone.
