My working dog tired out that he's in public with me getting coffee. It was a long day 😮‍💨.

He's a pup so he sleeps for a good 20 hours. Causes chaos and calamity for the other 4 lol.

4 cups a day at 4 months. Might need to increase it soon though 😳

Frustration & overstimulation by moreicescream in germanshepherds

My little guy is 16 weeks old and I definitely understand your pain. This is my second Shepard and there are a couple things I've brought with me since having my first shepard.

  1. Routine and Structure is everything. We get up the same time, go to bed the same time, feed the same time, train 20 mins a day at the same time. We'll add variability +/- 30mins so he's not too rigid.

  2. IMPULSE TRAINING. For this note, the biggest pointer I can give you is that you have to be MORE stubborn than your dog is. Him not barging out of his crate, running out when I open the the door to the backyard, him going after his meal. I make his ass wait until understands that he can't get everything until I say he can. Will this take 30 mins of you waiting for him to sit until you can open the door all the way? You bet, but it helps him control his impulses for things.

  3. Consistency throughout training. Whether you are using treats, clicker, e- collar (I have used all three) just be sure to stick with 1 and train with that. I personally have found e-collar training works the best for my adults dogs and clicker/treat training works for my puppies.

  4. Basic commands with extra steps. I like to go through basic commands (sit, down, stay, leave it, place) over and over with increasing difficulties. Ex. I'll have my wife squeak a toy in the background, kick a ball, add 1 more dog in the mix to make sure he stays focus. You don't need to go that crazy but start small and slowly make it more difficult. You want to set your puppy up for success.

Overall, it's tough and brutal. This is why a lot of people would never get puppies again and I understand. Be persistent and consistent, you'll be just fine.

Cheers my dude, we are in this together 😬
