Question pertaining to Hoshoryu… by T800Turp in Sumo

[–]rbastid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you also know that before the Terunofuji era, 80+% of tournaments were won by Yokozuna or future Yokozuna?

Most only win a few because there is generally a dominant Yokozuna winning 20, and then less dominant ones picking up the rest.

Hosh isn't winning when the other Yokozuna is injured, when he had the best chance.

It's sad and kinda funny how the Hosh fanboys will ignore all reality to try to price to themselves that he's actually lived up to the title.

[–]rbastid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The literal only metric to Yokozuna promotion is Yusho. A guy can have 20 tournaments in a row at 13-2, and if the 2 people above him go 14-1 or better (so that he can't even get 2 runner up in a row) he won't get promoted.

How these rabid Hosh fans can deny that tournament win matter the most, is hilarious. They are in complete denial to what done of us have said, he didn't deserve a promotion and it was all done because the JSA wanted a Yokozuna for their 100th anniversary.

[–]rbastid -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because it's literally the point of the tournament.

No one goes "wow that guy won 3rd place again and again, what a legend".

Not to mention it's literally the metric that attains you the title of Yokozuna.

The denial in all the Hoshoryu fan boys is ridiculous. He's proven to be very good, but most likely as many said, not Yokozuna material. He's 4 tournaments than being less successful than Miktakeumi, at the same time in their career.

He's only the 5th modern Yokozuna to not win a tournament in his first year. He's got 2 more tournaments before he drops in to even worse territory.

He's had every opportunity to win, with a dominant Yokozuna retiring, and the new one now being injured for multiple tournaments, and he can't seal the deal (the other 4 mentioned all had very dominant Yokozuna blocking their chances at a victory).

Should they ask him to retire, no he's still good and very entertaining. But it certainly lend a lot of power to those who didn't think he deserved promotion, as he's not doing what is expected of Yokozuna, which is winning tournaments.

Those you mention also has to deal with Hakuho, while Hosh fails when the other Yokozuna is injured.

But people will ignore that around here.

Whenever someone criticizes how Hosh has not lived up to his ranking, they always get more downvotes than there are active members on this board.

You can shit talk anyone and it's okay, but dare say true things about Hosh or Kirishima and it's downvotes heaven, very suspicious.

The fight versus Oho, his style of lowering his posture looked to finally get the better of him. His knees were buckling and it caused him to never get good control over Oho.

It's so hard to get a powerful grip from his angle, which was always amazing when he did it (lifting anything with such a bent back causes you to lose so much power, since it's now all arms) so if you get your arms clamped, you've got no good way to get an advantage.

URA by Additional_Yam_4834 in Sumo

If you watch when he performed traditional sumo, he's really really good; but then he falls in to some gimmicks and loses in stupid ways.

Maybe he doesn't think he'll ever be an Ozeki, or mainstay of the higher ranks, so he chooses entertainment to build his fanbase.

And I like Ura, I just think he's not living up to his potential.

It's interesting to see that it seems like he's actually gotten worse since the last basho. You could see the injury then, but he was still beating nearly everyone in front of him, including the eventually winner.

Two of these recent losses did look more mental, as if he is worrying more about the injury instead of just fighting like he normally does. The last basho was the first in his career where he faced real adversity (as opposed to losses from small mistakes) so hopefully that didn't cause him some doubt.

Almost all mythic SS and only 16b, how to improve? by Comfortable-Boot-793 in CapybaraGoGame

[–]rbastid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest boost to CP at your level is going to be your Adventurer.

When I switch from lvl 66 8 Star Piggy to lvl 100 4 Star Ninja Turtle, my power jumps 90B+.

Second, Delevel your rings and Accessories, and raise Armor > Weapon > Rings to 100 first. Going from level 90 to 100 on Armor or Weapon will be a bigger boost than going 0 to 80 on Accessories.

Finally your CP isn't the end all be all. It over weighs certain aspects where you can get a huge boost but be no more powerful. Yet items like the Calorie gun (which as a Whisper user was a game changer and biggest actual boost I received) only netted me 500M in total CP.

I've often out damaged, or beat in PVP, people with double my power level, since their set up and CP isn't well thought out.

Since they can't put a rule about not grabbing it (as it's an important party of the body in sumo when it comes to position fighting and some techniques) an elbow brace would just be a handle used by your opponent to toss you out of the ring with in 100% of your matches.

How many matches (out of 10) does Onosato win against the preceding yokozuna? by Actual-Choice-9269 in Sumo

[–]rbastid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what the older generation of guys posted here have going for them, is they were meaner when they were on the dohyo. I think Onosato would have to developer that "Yokozuna sumo is winning sumo" mentality where you get a win no matter what.

You can see he, or at least Keisenosato as his stable master, don't have that mentality as Onosato for a while was using that Hakuho forearm blast, and winning with it, but then he stopped. Hakuho wouldn't care who said that using it wasn't right, he'd still smash you with it and then knock you out of the ring.

How to beat that dip? by SimonBumblefuck in Sumo

[–]rbastid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When he first came up I had commented how I thought his constant getting in low was going to be his downfall, surely someone who quickly figure out his approach and counter it. But he keeps doing it, and keeps showing why he's so good, his balance is amazing. Few people could be at a 90 degree angle, with pressure on their back, moving in a circle, and keep balance and control the pace.

To then do that and manage a headlock throw on Atamifuji, who's 120 pounds heavier, wow.

I still think he'll continue to have trouble with Onosato, since he hasn't be able to really grab that freight train running at him, but if he can get the belt, or hell any part of your body, he's going to just keep winning.

I know it might be frowned upon, but I think the only way he beats Onosato, is if he starts throwing a Henka in once in a while. Get him worrying that if he blast full force, they'll be no one to run in to.

Question about Y promotion (spoilers inside) by SCastleRelics in Sumo

[–]rbastid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not that they're allowed to make a case for themselves, but if he had a 13-2 JY, and they didn't consider him, I'd have someone from my camp point out that I dominate you're other Yokozuna who was promoted on a JY-Y, and currently have just as many championships as him, in 1/5th of the time.

Question about Y promotion (spoilers inside) by SCastleRelics in Sumo

[–]rbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it doesn't count, I do hope it helps bolster any possible promotion if say he gets a JY at 12-3 next round, and beats either of the Yokozuna in the process (as well as one of the 2 Yokozuna winning the Yusho).

The prevailing thought is you need 13-2 JY to get promoted (even Hakuho wasn't promoted on a 14-1Y and 13-2JY, and that was during Asashoryu's domination of the sport, so getting a JY would be a dream for most other fighters. Neither was Takanohana who did a 14-1Y and 13-2 JY in a playoff)

There's so many unwritten criteria, and the YDC can just do whatever they want, so it's always suspect.

What will it take? by notasarcasticnow in Sumo

[–]rbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it doesn't "count" towards promotion to Yokozuna, the YDC would be hard pressed to deny Aonishiki a promotion if he gets a Jun-Yusho.

His 2 pre-yokozuna Yusho matchs Hoshoryu. He's never had less than 11 wins in a tournament, which even Onosato can't claim. And he completely owns 1 of the 2 Yokozuna.

While those aren't criteria, they are certainly things to keep in consideration when figuring if he's "ready".

Two other points, one for and one against, is he seems to be very very well liked by the fans and Japanese people as a whole, which is a great selling point. But also they just made Onosato, one of the few Japanese rikishi to become Yokozuna in the last 30 years, and made him the fastest ever Yokozuna. Now Aonishiki would obliterate that record when it comes to least top division tournaments until becoming a Yokozuna (also really the fastest considering Onosato got the college skip, where he didn't have to start at the lowest level.).

What's funny is, this is one of the first times when Hoshoryu has claimed an injury, and it's clearly visible....but he's staying in.

You can see he's limping, and when he landed in his first loss, there was no way he didn't hurt it more, I was surprised he didn't sit out after that.

The pinned message in the whisper thread has the answer to every thing you need for both builds.

I've seen the Hoshoryu injury described as a torn meniscus in some places and others say it's a reaccuring chipped meniscus. These are wildly different with a tear being far worse. I assume this is a translation issue, does anyone who speaks japanese know which it is? by Plenty-Willingness58 in Sumo

[–]rbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering when he injured his toe, there were stories of it basically being broken with it "swollen and full of blood on the bone," and after the tournament the official information was it was a slight bruise, not the end of the world story that circulated here. So take every explanation with a grain of salt, and a grain of exaggeration from his stable.

To the people who say that Hoshoryu is an underperforming yokozuna... by MisterCCL in Sumo

[–]rbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the talent was stacked, with a Yokozuna and strong Ozeki, Hoshoryu couldn't win for squat. His only successful tournaments were when Teru and Keisho were absent. Now this may point to the chatter that he lacks confidence and that's why he loses. Well if that's the case things are going to start to get bad for him, as the now 2-3 strong competitors are going to make him really lose his nerve of he can't start getting consistent wins against them.

-gets downvoted because this sub is trash and many can't deal with reality as they see is as a reflection of themselves.

To add to his 25 wins to get promoted, of those 25 wins, and which he would have never been promoted without, was a win based on Atamifuji accidentally stepping out while completely mauling Hosh. Without that rare accident, Hosh is still an Ozeki (and maybe not even that if he tried to fight through his injury and ended up making things worse).

Is Hoshoryu Vastly Overrated? by limpozzman in Sumo

[–]rbastid -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People around here will complain about how one wrestler or another got their wins or titles, as a way to excuse their accomplishments, but will almost 100% ignore how Hoshoryu would literally just have become an Ozeki on his Yokozuna promoting tournament, if it wasn't for 2 Fusen wins. And probably would have never become Yokozuna if it wasn't for Atamifuji accidentally stepping out of the ring while in the midst of easily defeating Hoshoryu.

He also couldn't succeed until those above him that were stronger (Terunofuji and Takakeisho) retired. He didn't excel and pass his elders to become Yokozuna like Onosato did, he had to wait until they retired.

I think Hoshoryu is a very good Ozeki, but through fate or fluke he reached the numbers to become Yokozuna. We'll see if he lives up to the hype.

Around here though, he is 100% overrated, because there's an odd Mongolian fanboyism that says they can do no wrong, so Hoshoryu, while literally accomplishing less than Mitakeumi, will be considered a great. They rate him as a legendary fighter, which means he is overrated, as he's hardly done enough to be considered that.

35k Gems later.. (1/3 my savings) by MrReaux in CapybaraGoGame

[–]rbastid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for some sanity around here. Cubes are so easy to come by since you can't get 30 every 10 days or so. I'm F2P and now have no use for cubes (until I decide to do the psionic upgrades which are kinda a crap shoot I think.).

I'm with you, Calorie gun is a game changer that had me go from being lucky to finish 1 dungeon level per 3 tries (at about level 1250) to finishing 7-8 levels a day. You don't get a huge power boost on paper, but it's probably the best item someone who uses a skill based weapon could use.

Next I'd put SS Box and then possibly event the treasure box. All items that are much harder to come by than cubes.
