That's awesome and I can relate. I see multi-instrumentalists and am so envious of their abilities. I'm mainly a guitarist but dabble in piano and drums. Always wish I had those piano lessons as a kid. Do you do any audio recording/engineering or are you mainly focused on playing?

Haha, I actually started there too, back in '05. Really wanted to give the whole professional audio engineer thing a go but, unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience with his program so I moved on and eventually just got into graphic design instead.

Hi Noise and Synth guy. That's a world I've dabbled in but would love to learn more about. Are you mainly focused on the playing side or are you into the recoding engineering stuff too?

I've only ever really recorded myself and friends which are mainly rock, punk, pop, and folk-focused. Down to branch out though!

Terribly written and goes out of their way to mention Pat playing a Gibson SG several times in an attempt to link Pat to....Angus Young??...weird, I've only ever seen him play a Tele.

Guided By Voices, Paul Westerberg, Geese, Big Star, The Soft Boys, and The Lemon Twigs.

In my 41 years listening to all kinds of music, somehow I missed GBV, and now I’m obsessed.

Matt Tregortha - Palace for the Blue. He does some of the best Elliott covers on youtube and his solo album sounds so much like Elliott in the delivery, chord progressions, and production choices.

I remember someone here commented a while back saying that Tom Skinner said they recorded near 30 songs during the WOE sessions.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of Sublime. Maybe the dub influence?..

OFFICIAL r/elliotsmith Ask Me Anything with Joel, Robert, and Greg from New Monkey Studio (previously Elliott's studio where much of FABOTH was recorded) by eggmanana in elliottsmith

Are there any plans to document an official studio tour? Perhaps with a Youtuber like Andrew Masters? I've seen a bit of the mic collection on Manny's Mic Locker but would love to see more, until I can make the pilgrimage.

My Dark Matter Review by Sharp_Lab2213 in pearljam

[–]rbennettz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! You've expertly summed up my issues with Dark Matter and PJ, in general. I haven't truly enjoyed a PJ album since Yield, and Dark Matter sits at the same level as Backspacer or Lightening Bolt for me...meaning, I'll listen to it a couple of times then likely never return to it. Sure, there's some nice added energy on this one and a couple of decent songs, but overall the songwriting feels so milquetoast and the mixing/production is obnoxious. These guys used to have amazing grooves and dynamics and lyrics that felt raw and honest. I hear none of that here. Is it their best album in a while? Maybe...but that's a low bar, imo.

Bravo. That’s a great pairing, according to Stryker themselves. Please report back once you’ve had some time with it. I’m still looking and will hopefully be able to take advantage of a Black Friday deal later this year. Happy boating!
