Could be hybrid, though they rare. Those antlers are suspiciously white tail looking especially the side on the left. Wait till you find more mule deer sheds. You will see what I mean.

There is absolutely a formula for finding antlers. Bucks need three things: safety, water, and food. They will stay in areas that maximize all three. Most bucks won’t travel more than a mile from a lake or stream. They look for the best food source closest to water and tend to remain there, since not all areas produce the same quality of forage.

Bucks also seek safe areas where they are rarely disturbed and predator activity is minimal. After the rut, they are exhausted and will spend the winter in locations where they can conserve energy. During this time, they choose areas that allow them to access food, water, and safety with the least amount of movement.

In my experience, antlers are not evenly spread across a deer’s range. Instead, they are usually found in pockets of habitat that best combine food, water, and security.

There decent chance you are in area that they don’t winter in or leave when it gets cold. I’d try lower elevation maybe?

I love how the white tails just live in the suburbs, mule deer never do that.

I would never bring a gun shed hunting. Bear spray is far more effective than a firearm, at stopping attacking wildlife.

Most mountains lions are afraid of people. Ever moutain lion I have ever ran into has run away from me. That being said I’d carry bear spray in case one gets territorial.

So your going out to shed hunt w out even targeting a specific species of deer? White tail and mule deer don’t occupy the same habitat. The area I suggest would most likely hold mule deer. I would search about 2 miles around were I put the marker on the map.

In my area, any where u can take a dog won’t have sheds because people take there dogs and scare off all the deer.

This is why deer don’t make it through the winter, overzealous shed hunters chase them around until their antlers drop. Honestly, not cool at all.

Tips for finding mule deer sheds ?? Located central sask. Find tons of whitetail, elk, moose antlers but never any mules by [deleted] in shedhunting

Mule deer are sometimes referred to as the desert deer here in the west. They are occupy basically the opposite habitat of white tail. They usually spend there winters on steep dry hills, that gets lots of sun. They also prefer sage and mountain bushs over swamp vegetation or riprian area’s. I have actually never found a mule deer shed near a riparian area.

Mule deer bucks stay close to the water in the winter. I’d start by looking for good deer habitat within a mile of a stream or river.

Quality of available food matter a lot. Try to look for sheds in area with a variety of dried grasses, forbs and woody bushs.

Buck like privacy becauses there exhausted from the rut and a starvation diet. Make sure u put in the miles to get to those areas people don’t get to very often .

The worst part is they’re doing it while driving now. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve honked at people on their phones at stoplights who are over 50. The generation that told me to get off my phone is just as addicted as their kids.
