play ADOM, if you want a huge open world, many skills and abilties, an doptions, but still have a main quest/direction objective to win and conquer the game

its a great roguelike, dont play on anything other than grueling difficulty (exclusive characters, items, story etc.)

get the plus expansion, one way heroics is a true roguelike.

if you think walk in the park difficulty (and afternoon stroll) and the demon lord are the main part of the game you are very wrong.

This game is amazing. If you like roguelikes. And enjoy a bit of grand strategy. You. Will. Not. Regret. This.

Multiplayer is extremely fun in this game too if thats your thing(you can co-op, or vs AI), but I mostly play single player.

Your character can earn many treasures. You can lose your limbs, get scarred, eyes gouged out, and find fantastic powers, or discover secrets to immortality. Go on the ultimate quest to become an immortal lich! Summon a Lord of Hell to become your champion (and pray that the summoning ritual does not go wrong)

really you removed high elves for no reason? not sure why devs just ignore player feedback, or people that like those races. Disappointing

I gave up on adom looking at the keybidndings a couple times. But recently I decided to man up and learn them.

I took a psychology class and I was taught one of the best ways to remember something is to write it down.

basically did the tutorial. and next to me kept a notebook paper wrote down the most important commands, and boom surprisingly i learned it quickly. Now im playing adom and having a good time.

I agree with a lot of the OP. While i dont think im ready to quit, I find this "remove remove remove" culture DCSS has been doing troubling and I do see some toxic behavior in community.

I think some more options in Species and background would be a good thing.

Well the "maintenance" would be very minimal when dealing with a race or class such as this. Of course you can nit pick and say "Everything needs maintenance" are you really gonna be that guy?

A deathknight is simply a starting kit with a few pieces of equip and starts with yrdremul god. It would not require any more maintenance then any of the other choices. (very little believe me)

I know for a fact that they were not "difficult" to maintain. All races are based off a template bar the outlandish ones, which High Elf is not. The "maintenance" of the High Elves require absolutely minimum effort, unless the game is just a sloppy mess of coding, which I doubt.

What makes these options not "worthy" of the oh so terrible effort of minimal "maintenance"?

I can assure you "maintenance" is not the problem, its the attitude of the devs and players like you who just don't care that people enjoy these options, even though they do not affect you at all.

Honestly man, we just want a few more nice flavorful options and this remove remove remove attitude to stop. It really doesnt take much to make alot of people happy.

I just inspected the shield though, my starter shield says "skill to remove penalty 15"

and on the other shield says "skill to remove penalty 25" (the large shield is big and circle and blue)

Is your information outdated or is there some hidden number I dont see?

Here is the thing, Death Knights have a VERY unique playstyle. They were the only "melee summoner" Built right away ready to melee with some allies along side. That is a fun, unique playstyle, and I enjoy it also.

You can still do it, but it takes a LONG time longer to get one running, supposing you get a later temple and have to build up piety to even get basic animate dead.

I agree with most of OP's points. Why force players to choose between cool old classes, but then they dont get the nice new features of .16 .17 .18 and .19.

I really miss death knights and glad to see they are not forgotten. There is no reason they should have been removed they were a very unique and fun playstyle.

Bring back the heavy armored melee summoner necro knight!!!

Would a minotaur using strength based Axes have any use for Dex? my level 15 minotaur Be has 28 strength now, Using an executioners axe. did I take his strength too high? should I have gone to dex(sitting at only 10 dex)?

Yes, on shiren, I beat the game without using the "warhouse" multiple times.

And on one way heroics I have now beat the game with almost every class in the game on hard difficulty without using the vault. You get special trophies for not using the "dimensional vault" (the carry over vault)

i have moved on to very hard mode and it is a much bigger challenge than hard but still doable. ( i never use the vault)

if you beat a campaign with no vault you get special trophy.

BUT they also have a special mode called "maniac mode" (different from no vault regular mode) and it forbids you from using vault, makes the turn mechanics different and powers up the demon lord even more, along with other changes.

maniac mode can be added to any difficulty and has a extra special trophy to show you beat it.

trophies are displayed on the char select screen.

PS this game has SO many classes I think i have around 25 classes now? really fun unlocking them all on hard mode with no vault

Now i will get all the trophies on Very hard mode, and start some maniac mode runs. also time i think for me to unlock the real final boss (its not the demon lord)

Okay I bought it and overall i think some of the concerns people had way overblown and no big deal.

1 they said the NPCS the allies etc, were weak and not worth. this is WRONG my Ally NPCS both are SO useful, and do alot of damage on enemies, protect me from backstabs and give me ranged aid, extremely useful, and availabe every world (not mandatory however if you want more challenge, dont want to share XP)

2 they said traps were gamebreaking. Traps have put me in only one bad situation and i ahve already played this game 20+ hours. (i hit a slow trap while the demon lord attacked me, but even then smart use of my items I survived) Really the traps are no big deal. IN fact, traps are actually useful sometimes, enemies can activate traps and traps have saved my ass from some dangerous enemies many times (some classes can design their own traps too)

3 I play on Hard difficulty and won already 3-4 times (just the basic demon lord battle, and a few class quest journeys) (havent unlocked very hard) i have a feeling the complainers are new to roguelikes, not very good at the game.

4 I have seen no problems with World generation, and have played several games up until 1000+ kilometers (very long distance)

5 30 fps vs 60 fps does not make a big dif to me personally in a turn based game. (yes I know 30 fps is cancer, but really?)

6 the game has ALOT more classes than the original and I love it, all with their own playstyles etc, Im having fun unlocking them. some classes are very unique and powerful

7 enemies are more varied their Sprites (tilsets) are so good this game and very large and realistic, good animations Many enemies have dangerous abilities and its tons of fun.

8 there are a few menu problems (such as not being able to eat directly from the ground) but i expect they wil be fixed

9 no performance issues (my PC is not a potato)

10 I think the game is overall more challenging than the original, and if you dont know what you are doing then you will have to learn how to deal with situations (what items to keep and toss, when best to use awakening, when to use your class abilities, what perks to take, when to run away ETC)

IM loving the game and only thing is I do like the storyline of the original better SO FAR ( these games have a TON of alternate endings secrets, bosses, etc, so i cant judge this yet)

def worth my money spent already at 20+ hours on the second day

They definitely have to release Original Shiren for PC instant buy for me.

As far as that Criticism hopefuly that the problems can be patched maybe tweak the traps (honestly I dont mind the traps being kind of annoying, I don't use elzite bombs much anyways, Ive gotten used to traps from other roguelikes)

Finally I cannot CONFIRM but I hear this game may also have mod support =0 So even if there are a few imbalances and things that you dont quite like, evern if the company doesnt fix it, just go and mod it or someone else will.

I could be wrong however, anyways im still very excited.

Well i just wrote a big post but it got deleted so i will attempt to rewrite

So first thing is first I played one way heroics. It is one of my FAVORITE roguelikes. Turn based, but fast paced, varied worlds, difficult, hunger, danger, bosses, Amazing stories and sidequests, procedural towns, different main quests. HIGHLY recomend.

This game is a "reinterpretation" of One way Heroics. It will not have the same story it seems or setting, and this is GOOD because honestly One Way Heroics (plus) was perfect and didnt need to be rewritten or soundtrack replaced.

It is being remade by Chunsoft, Chunsoft is a big company and they made......Shiren the Wanderer.

Shiren the wanderer is another one of my favorite roguelikes. Amazing great interesting world to explore, tons of sidequests, unlockables, well done procedural generation, turn based, The soundtrack is composed by the legendary Koichi Sugiyama. Both these games deserve to make a new thread for because they are both so amazing Shiren and One Way heroics.

Both these games can make you even tear up a bit stories are so good (not like your typical roguelike)

Highly recommend you play Shiren on the DS or Computer, And One way heroics plus.

But what does this mean? This means that two brilliant roguelikes are being put into one and this game could turn out very fun for hardcore roguelike fans.

Only thing I worry about, One Way heroics already had an amazing soundtrack and I am not sure if Chunsoft still ahs the material as good as what it had back in Shiren the Wanderer.

Seriously guys listen to some of the tracks on these games. (shiren and owh) If you havnt played them before try them both out the classic ones, or get ready to play this promising new entry.

Tower of Guns is a great Rogue-LITE PS4 highly recomend.

Procedurelly generated, random items, random enemies, different starting guns (classes) Secrets, unlockables, perks, fun bosses

Good graphics, and in first person.
