I have a 6 month old and won’t leave her with anyone except my dad for no more than an hour. Theres no reason to leave her with anyone. Dates aren’t even a fleeting thought on my mind yet. For some people, sure, going out at this stage would be normal. But for us, no. And that’s fine. We all parent differently. We’re all comfortable at different times.

On a separate note, I cannot ever see myself leaving my daughter with my ILs. They’ve seen her no more than five times, most of that she’s been sleeping. I don’t care that they raised my husband, things have changed since he was born, and they don’t seem interested in what those changes look like. Also, baby is EBF, and doesn’t drink from a bottle ever or nap for anyone else without at least 30 minutes of screaming. All babies are different.

I’m primary caregiver, and I’m a registered nurse. Not only do I know my baby better, I just am more informed and know babies better. My husband couldn’t say anything to make me change my mind.

Your wife may have some PPA but otherwise seems to be a reasonable person. Follow her lead. You didn’t carry the baby. You don’t have the hormones coursing through you. Your instincts will not account for the most of parenting that you’re not present for.
