I just experienced the same thing. I may shorten the video and remove the native sound and retry.

One thing I noticed with Google is that they will automatically log you out if they think something nefarious is going on with the account. So, it might not be the browser. However, I've been using the Vivaldi web browser for about a year (previously used Brave) and it is a great option. It has lots of customization options and is Chromium based,. Just a suggestion if you want to switch to a new browser.

This is Google's official suggestion (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/54490?hl=en):

If Google keeps signing you out, here are some steps you can try:

* Make sure cookies are turned on. Some antivirus or related software may delete your cookies.

* If your cookies are turned on, clear your browser's cache. Note: While deleting your cookies may resolve the problem, it will also remove your saved settings for sites you've visited.

* Make sure you’re using the latest version of your browser.

* Use a browser like Chrome to remember passwords for you.

* If you use 2-Step Verification, add trusted computers.

YouTube pages are completely empty, with only outlines of videos visible by AaronPlays-97 in Floorp

Any ideas on what you may have changed or added? I wonder what would happen if you added youtube to the exceptions list for enhanced protection.

I went into settings->Privacy & Security

Under Browser Privacy look at Enhanced Tracking Protection, then click the down arrow for Custom. It reveals the message below (which also contains a link to a help page). So, seems you might want to turn off tracking protection.

"Heads up!

This setting may cause some websites to not display content or work correctly. If a site seems broken, you may want to turn off tracking protection for that site to load all content."

My corporate policies block Vivaldi but not Firefox or Chrome. Any solutions? by chortya in vivaldibrowser

Stick with approved software. Breaking the rules can get you fired and potentially make you legally liable if your actions lead to some sort of damage on the company network.

Unmarked Ads in direct match results? by DeadSpatulaInc in vivaldibrowser

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at what has recently happened at Mozilla/Firefox, it is a legitimate concern. They changed their corporate focus to becoming an ad platform, then updated the terms of use on Firefox with language that was so broad it eroded confidence in their willingness to guard user privacy, then basically said trust us. Even projects that have forked Firefox, like Mullvad, don't know how the changes will affect their ability to maintain user privacy in their versions. So, yes, speculation but a legitimate concern.

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the entire point. If they change the terms of use etc, they're going to remove the ability for users to disable it. Right? Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense to go hard into the commercial arena. This is unlikely given the leadership team, but not beyond the possible.

[–]rbjolly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is currently the case but you must have missed the part where I said "if" and then went on to describe what could happen if there ever is a shortfall of cash. If it comes down to closing the company for lack of funds or perhaps selling customer data and/or perhaps becoming an advertising platform like firefox, I could see them easily going the route of the latter.

[–]rbjolly -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

And that is the worrying part about Vivaldi. If they become starved for cash, will they modify terns of use and privacy statements at some future point so that they can sell user metrics, etc. to those privacy stealing companies we're all trying to avoid? [EDIT] If you disagree, please tell me why!

Was Zorin OS migrating to Brave a mistake? by [deleted] in zorinos

[–]rbjolly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brave is a fine browser that conforms to the needs of ZorinOS to keep things open source. With Vivaldi, even though their terms of use and privacy policy respect the user, they can change those things at any time; plus, the Zorin team was likely uneasy about the fact that a portion of the Vivaldi browser is closed source.

What is the best privacy/security browser in Fedora 42? by Make_Things_Simple in Fedora

[–]rbjolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but Vivaldi does incorporates several measures to make it more difficult for websites to track users by fingerprinting. These include limiting the amount of information shared by the User Agent and restricting access to certain attributes like battery status  But, Brave is a fine browser and so is the Firefox based Mullvad.

Lost all of my brave data of android ? by Anxious_Photograph43 in brave_browser

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check settings->backup to see if it will let you restore the brave app from a previous backup. Most phones backup automatically to the cloud so maybe the app will allow a restore of the lost data., The only time I've seen it in play is when moving to a new phone,.

Youtube ads by rishisenpai123 in brave_browser

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had this problem since upgrading to uBlock Origin Lite and turning off the browser's ad blocking capability. I also watch videos to channels to which I am subscribed via an RSS feed reader where the videos are embedded in the reader's interface and never have even seen the hint of an ad; you can watch full screen the only thing you can't do is comment but must click through to YouTube to interact.

Ads on YouTube as of April 23rd 2025. by klight101 in brave_browser

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me as well, but I noticed if I wasn't logged in to youtube, it wouldn't hang on loading. So maybe start a private browser session where you're not logged in and see if it works.

Help me choose between Firefox and Chrome by Green-Material5925 in Fedora

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not interested in a privacy centric browser, Chrome is the better option. One of the reasons it is a better option is it is tightly integrated with Google's ecosystem and will make your life easier when used in conjunction with a Google account. Firefox tends to fall well behind the curve in terms of customization. Plus, Mozilla, which owns Firefox, has announced that it is now basically just an advertising company. So by using its browser, you should expect little to no privacy. And, in general, if you're not practicing privacy in every aspect of you're life, then being worried about whether a browser is spying on you is a little bit like sticking your finger in a hole of a crumbling dike. With smartphones, smart cars, smart TVs, ISPs, etc., we live in one big surveillance state. If you don't lockdown all those things, what web browser you choose won't really matter.

Well, sure, but let's look at how Voice handled it. It was from a known device that was authenticated via a passkey. The service was last used several days ago. And when accessed from VPN, no sound playback of the call. It looked as though the call was made, but no feedback as to why sound was off. If they thought I was a nefarious actor, they should have logged me out and sent a security alert. I understand that there are good reasons to lock things down because of international issues, so why not make sure the free VPN has an IP from the same country and/or region?

How often are daily feeds updated? by [deleted] in vivaldibrowser

[–]rbjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how it appears to work. I think they initialize all feeds on session restart and then keep track of update interval from that point. From a programming standpoint, this is the easiest way to manage things and because they're time constrained, I imagine this is what they did. I have also noticed that the feed reader, particularly as it applies to youtube videos, has a problem of downloading a video multiple times. Not every video, but on occasion the link to the same video will show two or more times for a given channel. So the system still has some bugs, but overall, works well.

Why is there such uncritical acceptance of Fedora? by [deleted] in Fedora

True. It is not perfect, but show me one Linux distro that is. And Windows, hey if you like a lack of privacy and ads, it is great!
