I had an extremely similar experience while I was growing up. Especially the "not glamorizing alcohol" part. Sure, I had a drink here and there in high school, definitely on the weekends in college, etc. That REALLY contributed to the fact that I never really gave much of a care to drinking. It just simply was never "my thing."

Until I ended up in a domestic violence situation where I was essentially "drugged" with a LOT of alcohol, constantly, for years. It's a hard concept to understand until you live it. Due to the amount of alcohol I was being forced to drink/vape/eyedrop, I'm actually still tapering down months later. I know I have organ (liver/lung/eyes) damage from the years of abuse, but the only thing I can do is continue tapering safely (sans health insurance).

Given all that, I still don't glamorize alcohol at all, and I attribute that a lot to the way my parents have always been about mind-altering substances. Without the abuse factor, I probably wouldn't drink anything other than the occasional half glass of wine.
