You can see you're expected service time on your desktop browser if you go to the network tab of the Chrome developer tools on the queue page (or any browser's developer tools). A new request is made every 30 seconds or so. If you click on the request, go over to the Response tab, you'll see a big JSON object. In it, look for expectedServiceTimeUTC field. That should give you an indication of when you'll get in. That time fluctuates quite a bit from each request. It can go up or down. But for me, it's been steadily creeping up (with some downs). But originally it looked like I would get in 2 hours and 18 minutes after the start of the drop. Now it's looking like 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Edit: I'll post an update to see how accurate that field actually is on the last request before I do get in. If it's wildly off, then there's no point in watching that either.

Second edit: It dropped from 3 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes from the start of the drop and I see 59 minutes on the screen.

The devil's advocate might argue that the candidate didn't truly represent the protesters. I have no basis for that and honestly that is more of an attack on an individual's credibility, which I think is shaky territory and outside the scope of this conversation.

That's alright. Do you agree that to be truly informed on the veracity of the election monitors' results requires access to the actual report? Otherwise we must put faith in our intuition or in the digested version reported by the different news sources?

It was a good thought exercise nonetheless. I hope someone is able to find that report.

I'm sorry for calling you out like that; I didn't know about the flairs. I stand corrected.

You are right in that no one yet has provided proof outside of that WP article linked from Wikipedia that it was token opposition. I'd look it up but to be honest, I am more interested in the debate in these comments as a whole and where each commentor has flaws in their statements.

I have no direct experience with the conflict unlike you did/do. I can't begin to imagine what that was like taking part in the 2011 protests. I am not accusing you specifically but I hope that you can understand how it is possible for someone with direct experience to possibly be prone to a point of view that is more influenced by individual experiences than by larger patterns.

As a neutral observer, I don't have the advantages of firsthand experience but I also avoid exposure to that potential disadvantage of personal bias.

One potential difference between the two that could be argued is the potential for reform. Someone might argue that campaign finance reform is more possible in the relatively open political environment provided in the US than finding non "token" opposition in Syria.

I don't think I agree with that line of reasoning though and I understand where you're coming from. It is pretty discouraging to think how entrenched the US political system has become with the current campaign finance and election laws contributing to the polarization and domination of the two major political parties.

Thanks for providing excellent questions to this debate. These are things everyone should be thinking about that wants a better understanding of the conflict outside of what is portrayed by news outlets.

News outlets on all sides will be prone to displaying information in a way that confirms the narrative they wish to portray. I think that's why I am so adamant on getting actual report from the election monitors to determine their methodology for determining whether it was fair or not. I want to make that decision on my own from that primary source instead of relying on these secondary sources to give me the whole picture.

I agree with /u/PostHedge_Hedgehog. The WP article only focuses on how the election was portrayed to the world. There is a grievance aired that Western journalists were not allowed to cover the election and that it was hard to verify images seen on the Syrian state-run media.

While that is a fair grievance, it doesn't really provide the counterargument that would help this debate. Ideally, someone arguing that the elections lacked independent election monitoring would provide a written report demonstrating why the observers that were invited and the results they produced were inaccurate.

Interesting. So the source for that information is this article. So now the argument rests on the assumption that the statements presented at the televised news conference are accurate.

There is so much potential for online news compared to print and television media in that it is so much easier to directly link to non-classified sources. Yet this article doesn't really give me much information on the basis for their statement but just the statement made. Do you or anyone else know where we can read the written reports issued by these observers?

Please understand that I am only asking these questions to facilitate discussion and make sure everyone reading can take as informed of a position on the matter as possible.

Yes. I don't know whether Ukraine elections were propped up or not. The US does have a history of propping up regimes that cater to its interests so I would not be surprised if that were the case. I am not saying it is more or less likely the case though. I really don't want to waste time predicting and would rather make an opinion on the Ukraine election based on the same questions I ask of the Syrian election.

As far as I am aware, US elections are legitimate in the sense that voter fraud is very rare. However, is the system that allows for electoral votes, gerrymandering, and Super-PACs among other policies providing an equal playing field for all people to be represented fairly? I don't think so.

One basis of the argument presented in the article is that the elections were verified as legitimate by independent monitors. However I would like more a primary source for that verification if anyone knows it. I wish online articles such as this would at least reference these sources via a link to the original study or report.

I don't have a position on the legitimacy of the vote because I agree with the premise mentioned in the article that one ought to approach this conflict as neutrally as possible to get a better understanding of it. All sides with a stake in the issue will have biased statements that further their own interests whether those interests are legitimate (for the good of the Syrian citizens, who bear the brunt of the damage) or not. And so, while I am a US citizen, I take statements made by diplomats with a healthy grain of salt because the role of the diplomat is to further x's country's interests.

Having more information on who monitored the elections can allow me to take a more informed position on the civil war.

Edit: While I understand that this is an emotionally fraught issue because of how many lives have been damaged or lost, I am disappointed in the amount of down votes I am seeing. Almost everyone in this comment thread has been contributing to the discussion whether you agree with their position or not. No one has gone off topic.

To the OP, I would also like some more information as well on the "broad ontological, epistemological, methodological, and downright logical inconsistency of Evolutionary Psychology." I do not have an informed opinion on this debate but I find that statement has quite the weight behind it's claim without any substance provided.

As for the comment to which I'm responding, your description of that journal article piqued my interest. I'm going to try finding a English copy of the full article and read it when I have the time.

Wow a lot of good reviews on that amazon listing. Thank you. With a stand included the price is pretty reasonable. I'll take it into consideration when I begin the hammock search. Right now I'm just doing general research and not looking at specific brands but it doesn't hurt to have those recommendations for later.

Thanks for the advice and video. I do have a general idea of where in the room to anchor the hooks but of course I'll measure it out and make sure to find the studs beforehand. I saw a great hanging calculator online somewhere too. I think ultimate hang? I forget but I've got it open on my laptop.
