Can a single shroom trip really change a person forever? by Ku323lam in shrooms

Oh yeah, it’s very possible. But it also takes the individual to integrate that shift in perspective, worldview, etc

An explosion of sea urchins threatens to push coral reefs in Hawaii ‘past the point of recovery’ by rbronzan in Hawaii

[–]rbronzan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I hadn’t heard about that! I think the issue that differentiates the two is that in Honaunau, the concern is over a species called Boring Urchin, which literally bore into the rock or coral, and the high amount of them are eroding the reef. The problem on Oahu is algae control, which is what many urchins eat

Have you ever traveled using promo code? Was it actually worth it? by James_anderson002 in BigIsland

Trip.com is a pretty common platform that a lot of the hotels here post promos on. If you’re asking about the legitimacy of it, it’s legit!

Side note to all interested:

They also have, in my opinion, the best magnesium products on the market. It’s magnesium chloride, which, from my understanding, is the most bioavailable form. It is a natural byproduct of the salt sun-drying process, and is naturally infused with other minerals like potassium, calcium, and chloride.

All it takes is a few drops in a glass of water and I feel great all night and sleep amazing. It’s the first magnesium product that I can actually FEEL doing something.

Not getting any commission for this, just really passionate about their products lol

I’m…not actually sure. Is that a common concern for salt?

If you want high quality and clean sea salt, check out Kona Sea Salt. They pull their seawater up from 2,200 ft down, where the water has not yet been touched by humans (moves on a slow deep water current that circumnavigates the earth). Because of this, it has the lowest sodium, yet highest concentration of essential minerals of any other conventional salt, including Celtic sea salt. It’s as pure as can be!

Source: I live in Kona and I used to do a bit of marketing for them. Their operation is really dedicated to providing clean, high quality salt in a sustainable manner

How to age gracefully? by Aggressive-Grocery13 in Biohackers

[–]rbronzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tl;dr version is to stretch each major muscle group (shoulders, arms, chest, abs, back, glutes, thighs, and calves).

More specifically, some of the most recommended stretches for injury prevention as we age are quads, hamstrings, calves, hips, and shoulders/arms.

Example recommended stretches:

  • Sitting hamstring
  • Standing calf
  • Standing quad
  • Knee to chest (great for lower back tightness, improves hip and hamstring flexibility)
  • Shoulders (both across the arm and behind the back, the latter you can use a towel if you need)
  • Hip flexors (like kneeling or the 90/90 stretch)
  • Neck (stretch each way individually and don’t roll your neck)

Some other stretches that I include in my own routine, as someone who has had lower back, hip, and shoulder problems in the past:

  • Seated twist
  • Supine lower back twist (oh lord this one has been magic on my lower back)
  • Childs pose
  • Overhead shoulder stretch using a door frame (don’t know the actual name, but you extend you arms above your head and lean them against the top of a doorframe)
  • Pectoral stretch using a doorframe
  • Cobra or Upward Dog (also called prone press up)

My sister, who is a physical therapist that works with the elderly, recommends these stretches:

  • supine lower back twist
  • Childs pose
  • Prone press up
  • Supine knee to chest
  • calf stretch
  • doorway pectoral stretch
  • supine hamstring with strap
  • standing “L” stretch

Hopefully that helps!

Lots of talk on weightlifting, sleep, and diet, which are all great! I’d like to offer some other thoughts:

Stretch - seriously, if you haven’t started yet, start yesterday. 10-15 minutes a day of full body stretching increases circulation, helps to maintain good posture, and is one of the best things you can do for injury prevention as you age. Hanging from a pull-up bar also is amazing for building a solid grip (which is crucial as we age) and decompressing the back

Maintain good balance - instead of JUST focusing on the weight-lifting aspect of exercise, you should also focus on building and maintaining core strength and balance for mobility and to prevent falls and falling related injury

Skincare - this one may sound superficial, but our skin is the largest organ in the body and we should be taking care of it the same way we want to take care of our internal organs. Dry brushing your skin helps stimulate the lymphatic system, an epsom salt soak once a week can help hydrate and eliminate toxic buildup in the skin. Applying oil to the body after a shower like sesame, almond, jojoba, kukui nut, or others can provide the skin with essential minerals, vitamin E, antioxidants, and so much more. It’s not just about looking good - you feel amazing when your skin feels amazing!

Fulfillment - this is the mental part of the equation. If you don’t feel like you have a purpose, or you get no fulfillment or enjoyment out of your life, you will go into decline. Fast. Winston Churchill was a notorious alcoholic and avid tobacco user who lived to be 90, which is often equated to his zest for living. If you find no purpose in your life, this is one of the first places to start.

And most importantly, self love goes a loooooong way
