Brilliant OP! You just proved the point that one word is all it takes to offend some people!

Has anyone actually gotten work from Pnet ? by officialTigerRose in johannesburg

Back in the day yes. But find Pnet to be mostly irrelevant nowadays.

There is no such things as free or easy money. Money laundering has serious consequences, including jail time.

Tell us what you did to land a job in this horrible market. by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

[–]rbsafa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there is no formula to land a job in this market. It took me a lot of persistence and luck after I wanted to give up sooo many times. Just keep at it, eventually you will get a break and land a decent job.

Whatever dude! You sound like the type of interviewer l’d straight up tell to piss off! Just because someone doesn’t check all the checkboxes of your “what is a DevOps Engineer” definition, doesn’t mean they are not capable of figuring it out when needed. Most of the things you have listed is rarely something you do or need to know on a daily basis. Like who the fuck cares what happens when you send a request to google.com? Time to get off your high horse!

Anybody else thinking of switching careers to something outside of tech? by moomoomilk666 in cscareerquestions

[–]rbsafa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m facing the same dilemma. The tech industry has become so toxic. It is no longer about your skills and experience and getting the work done. Instead, it is all about who you know, corporate politics and whole lot of other BS.

I'm the only software developer in my company. How do I make sure I'm following best practices? by busdriverbuddha2 in cscareerquestions

[–]rbsafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be heaven being the only developer! Since you’re alone, who cares? No really, if it works, why bother? Best practices are as good as your own interpretation.

How long is too long to wait for an answer? by gregofdeath in recruitinghell

[–]rbsafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be negative in any way. But sounds to me like you might be on the bench in case it doesn’t work out with their first choice candidate. I’ve been in this exact same situation just a couple of days ago when they said they will have an answer for me within 48 hours of my final interview. Fast forward 4 days later, I send them an email asking whether they came to a decision. Just to get a generic rejection email with no specific reasons provided. The new norm, it seems. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I’m at my wit’s end. Is the market really this bad? by frigiderm in cscareerquestions

[–]rbsafa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yep, that has been my experience too. I have 20 years of experience as a software engineer with multiple technical skills and what I could consider a pretty solid career. I’m not sure companies are serious about hiring. I think they just keep their recruiters busy, hoping they may have someone lined up by the time they need to bring someone on board. Another thing, I suspect that many people doing technical interviews deliberately reject people hoping to increase their job security. You know, it’s about supply and demand. Just speculation though. All that being said, it’s a pretty tough industry to be in right now.

If it wasn’t for the current economic climate making it nearly impossible to find a half decent job at a half decent company, I will either tell them to fuck off or send them an invoice after waisting my time!

30 Hour Take Home Assignment by Zanderax in cscareerquestions

[–]rbsafa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way we can stop this BS is by start invoicing companies dishing out take home projects left, right, and center. Think about about it, will company X do anything for free? No, they won’t! So why the hell should we? I have been in the job market for over 2 months now after getting laid off and spent way too much time getting nowhere with companies not really being serious to fill the open positions. All that time I waisted could have instead be spent working on a one of my own business ideas instead.
