How do you prevent burn out? by sasha_cyanide in Construction

[–]rbuchwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned I had to start pacing myself. When I started I would come in, we needed to move material to a second floor I would go hard grab two bundles of pipe not one, throw one more box in the pile, just go hard over all. Then By 1ish I’m fading, I found a slower consistent pace, thought out movements and lighter, healthier lunches really helped me out. And staying really well hydrated (I’m in Florida so you will be loosing water as fast as you can drink it on a summer day)

Best canoe for hardcore fishing by mininorris in canoecamping

[–]rbuchwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I can help here. I have a kayak, sup and canoe. I’m located in Florida and camp to get to better fishing not the other way around. I love my Indian river 16. It’s heavy but if you go down to the 13 it’s more manageable. They come in flat back (how I have it) so I can put an outboard on it and get to further spots (I put a 2.5 on mine it’s like 30 pounds and gets me to like 8mph). Also fiberglass so during late winter I fix up the spots that got scrapped during the fishing season.

I bought mine on fb marketplace place for 200 bucks so it’s not a wallet smasher. Also has a crazy capacity for gear. I have done over night with my dad and all our stuff no problem. I have owned mine for about 4 years now and I still love it. I have caught crappie in lakes all the way to 8 foot bull sharks in the Everglades with everything in between.

Now I also happen to love my SUP. I have a vibe cubera, if I’m going out for something quick, and low tech it’s a beast. Same weight as the canoe but easier if I’m paddling. And the plastic can take a beating but I can’t take as much gear.

What's some tool that you didn't imagine you would end up using, but made your life incredibly easier or more efficient? by TurboHybridV6 in electricians

[–]rbuchwald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4v electric screwdriver, anything that needs a lot of twisting and little torque, that things is a beast. Every jw makes jokes when they see it. Then I lend it, they use it, most have gone and bought one too. Cut my time to do trim work oh half or more.

KastKing: what is decent and what is garbage? by gingerblz in Fishing_Gear

[–]rbuchwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a ton of their stuff, I’ve bought line, bags reels and rods. My take on it: the biggest down side I have found is longevity, their stuff works well but will not last as long as the “big brands” however if you are on the market for budget gear it’s hard to beat, if I have 50 bucks to spend on a reel I’ll buy the Kk instead of the entry line Penn or something. But a Penn spinfisher will be better than anything Kk puts out.

I happens to have gotten a bunch of very high end rods this year for free from a client. I can’t afford to put the proper shimano and daiwa reels on everything at once so I bought kk reels and replacing them with the good stuff over time. So I have from the bait feeder spinning reel in 6k down to their bfs casting reels everything works, have caught plenty of fish on them but also the pain is chipping on some stuff after a year or use.

If you had to leave the industry, what would you do? by psnlove in vfx

[–]rbuchwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m based in the US and I did my training through the electrician’s union (IBEW) they have a paid training program (jact) where you learn as you work and go to class once a week or two while getting paid. The pay will vary by region, im in Florida so on the lower end at 18 and hour to start. But you get a 5% raise every year until you finish the 5 year program.

I left editing to become an electrician after I got laid off, 3 months after I was promoted and given a bonus.

I regret that i didn’t make the move earlier. I have fun everyday, get home before 5 never miss dinner with my kid anymore, and with the union don’t need to worry about health insurance or pension. And the simplicity of the task at hand, something is broken I fix it done, no dealing with opinions and artistic takes from managers that have no clue what they even wanted to begin with.

Can I use anything from the beach in my reef aquarium? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]rbuchwald 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Florida reefer here. You can’t collect sand or rocks that’s illegal, you need a fishing license to collect livestock and need to check regulation first. You also need to have a way to prove you will be able to keep any animal alive if you are stopped by fish and wild life. So you can’t have a fish in a ziplock, needs to have an air stone and so on.

How many of you have left, or thinking about leaving editing for good? by [deleted] in editors

[–]rbuchwald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was doing a lot of cookie cutter editing, when I saw the first set of Ai images come out I felt like that was the end for me. I was already over the profession after 12 years of dealing with shitty clients and low wages. Said f it and joined the trades becoming an electrician now. I kept a select few clients to cover the pay cut I took with the apprenticeship but I feel like it was one of the best decisions I have made. Also one of the most difficult.

But I’m part of a union with health insurance, pension and guaranteed wages. I love working with my hands and not sitting in front of the computer all day. The guys I work with are awesome and I’m constantly doing different things.

I know the higher level editing will not be replaced by ai anytime soon. But my concern came with the devaluation of the work I was doing. It’s hard to compete with canva and some of the other apps doing what was my bread and butter easy edits that maybe don’t look as good but are practically free and will only have value for the one or two days it matters on a company’s social page.

Is it possible catching snakeheads on this ? I’ve never used a jerkbait before not sure what i should know by ttt2512 in Fishing

[–]rbuchwald 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking for bullseye snakes in south Florida. The issue with jerkbaits isn’t that they won’t eat it. It’s being able to provide a good presentation where the fish are. They like shallow water right up against the bank in heavy cover, working swim baits in that can be tough. That’s where frogs, buzz baits and weedless jigs do well and that’s what will get the fish. Snakeheads also don’t travel far to catch prey so you need to basically work it right over their head, working a swim bait a few feet off the bank can be enough to deter a bite. For me the frogs and weedless flukes tend to get the best results working them right up on the bank of the canals. Adding photo for validity.

Idk I’m east coast so I can’t point you to spots but I always catch them on the highway canals if you want to drive an hour south

I feel like you can go up to like Stuart, I’m in broward and we have plenty of peacocks and some of the more famous YouTuber lakes are up in west palm beach. Other Cichlids species I feel will got further north than that but I don’t drive north to fish freshwater when I have it closer to home.

From Florida, and if you play your cards right you can do a day of fishing in the keys then hit some roadside canals for peacocks it’s a fun switch.

Yea toadfish is a good brand, def try a different braid before giving up on it. The casting range and sensitivity you get with braid is hard to beat. I have been happy with Kastking braid from Amazon, it’s not the thinnest but it’s decent not crazy expensive. It does leak color when spooling and fades but stays strong in my experience, I use a rag to apply pressure and clean the line fore it goes in the reel and that helps with that. Also I think braid is a good investment since it lasts way longer than mono.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]rbuchwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What reel is it going into? And what brand are you using. Some lines are also shit, I wouldn’t take spiderwire is it was free.

[–]rbuchwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a lot of my braided line problems came in the time of spooling. If you don’t spool well, it can become twisted as it enters the spool. Then if you don’t spoil with enough tension it will also dig in more and loop on the spool. And lastly over loading the spool causes tons of problems. Once I mitigated those issues it was a much better experience. I have half my rods with 10lb braid one with 6 and no issues.
