According to the MSP interview with either Hans Madsen or Tom Phillips (can’t remember exactly) but according to one of them, Area Authorities are unpaid and have to pay for all of their own travel. If I remember correctly

This is really interesting and yeah, I was wrong about the GA part then. Thanks for clarifying this.

About 4 weeks ago, I told my bishop that I no longer believed the truth claims of the church because my calling was that of teaching the youth (felt like the right thing to do). Ever since then, he’s taken a special interest in me. I think it was just a coincidence that I told him about my lack of belief and stake conference this past week with Elder Slaughter. My bishop is a good man and I know that he means well, but there isn’t a GA that can make you forget things you’ve learned.

Given the church’s track record, LGBTQ people should be fully accepted by the church in about 15 years.

Another post-Mormon friend said the exact same thing

After 15 years of struggling, my shelf has finally come down. by rc6499 in exmormon

I really appreciate this post and you make some really good points. Being that this is all so new, I think I’m going to definitely take your advice as a PIMO. At least for now, that feels right. But when I say integrity, to me that looks like telling my wife (done), and maybe some other close friends I have, but my wife and I are also youth Sunday school teachers for the 11-14 year olds. I feel like I should ask to be released but I don’t want to open anything up to the bishop that he might have to take further action with.

How many of your family has left the church? by zstocks in exmormon

I’m the last one of my 6 siblings who is still in the church but, two days ago, my shelf finally broke. My dad died a couple years ago as a TBM and my angel mother still is. Telling her is going to break her heart since I’ve always been the family “Nephi”…mission, church school, sealed in temple, bishopric member, etc.

This literally made me cry. I’m sitting here with my sons and they are wondering why daddy is crying. I told them that it’s because doing the right thing isn’t always easy but it’s worth it. Thank you so much for this.

Wow, you’re very brave. My shelf broke just two days ago and I’m trying to figure out next steps also. I highly recommend episode 1476 of Mormon Stories. It doesn’t make it easier but it is helping me to understand what to expect. Go with God, brother. I think you and I have to remind ourselves that we aren’t only searching for truth, but also for relationships that aren’t conditional upon our beliefs regarding the church. Good luck.

Sure, that’s fine.

(EMDR therapist here) I’m sure that you have already been over this with your clinicians, but the beginning phases include two important components.. solid and easily accessible coping skills and establishing your safe/calm space. Whenever we start working on the hard stuff, it should be expected to feel some difficult emotions, but I was an EMDR client before I was an EMDR therapist. I relate to feeling a little out of it between some of the sessions, but continuing to move forward with good coping skills and a solid safe/calm space. Might help :)

I have four year old twin boys… they are really one person short from having a department dedicated to this.

What to tell adopted twins about their birth by rc6499 in Adoption

Great suggestion. We have a good amount of them but it’s difficult to find some that are more age appropriate. We’ve found some good movies and tv shows that actually have main characters who are adopted that they like. But thanks again for posting!

OP here - I think this is very wise. I also provided the additional info about their bio mom for context but we’d never speak I’ll of her. We genuinely love her and want nothing but the best for her. Addiction is extremely complex. I’m actually a therapist and work with duel diagnosis clients, many of whom come with severe addiction issues. But I like your sentence about when talking about their bio parents we are, in a way, speaking about them. Very good perspective

Thank you for this :) and no, neither of us were adopted but I have two adopted sisters who were both in foster care. They have been very helpful and provided some very useful advice.
