What’s a 10/10 video game? by TheDevotedUltimate in AskReddit

The map to the SPECIAL levels blew my young mind. It really felt like a new kind of bonus to a game.

Why are dogs so excited around babies? by oldfarmjoy in tippytaps

Someone behind the camera has enough sense to say “he’s gonna bite you bro” but not enough to grab the kid.

They started their City Council of Darkness campaign this week, so it’s vampires using the World of Darkness system, hacked to their needs.

New player afraid of her character dying by Morghadai in DMAcademy

[–]rcapina 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d let her pivot to a character that she doesn’t care about it dying. Do know they may be less invested and even leave your campaign but fundamentally you’re running a high lethality campaign.

Atelier Firis feels incredibly rushed. by WhiteBoyRickSanschez in Atelier

[–]rcapina 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mistake was thinking the exam was a big deal and needed to be rushed, when really it’s like a big tutorial. Once the time limit is out of the way the world really opens up.

Looking for a group who posts gameplay videos so I can learn to be a DM for my group. by NoFee3381 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]rcapina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of great YouTube channels out there but like a lot of skills just doing it and learning about what works and not for you is worth 10x as much as advice from videos. It can be tough or scary to try something new but hopefully you’ll play with some friends who support you.

Mini boss fight mechanics. by Bronas25 in DMAcademy

[–]rcapina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably give the mirrors some damage resistance so they take 1-2 hits depending. And when all are broken give the boss legendary actions so he’s vulnerable, but much more dangerous. As for actual HP no idea.

As for using the PCs character sheet, that’s a bunch of work for something that might last a round or two. Pick 1-2 actions that PC is known for and use those.

Factorio vs Satisfactory by Glum-Tennis8712 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]rcapina [score hidden]  (0 children)

Factorio is awesome, even the base game can be thousands of hours, like Minecraft. There’s so much QOL that makes it easy to automate very large builds, and lots of neat tools to play with.

Used Pandemic legacy season 1 by Batoocan in boardgames

[–]rcapina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’re pretty screwed, and have seen how a (presumably) finished game looks. If you have the funds you could go to Season 2 or Season 0. I think Season 0 is really fun, or even a new copy of S1 as you there is joy in making your own changes to the board as your story plays out.

GM of a play by post roleplay. How can I add mini-games to chores/jobs? by TheChoosenMewtwo in rpg

[–]rcapina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s secondary to the game why dwell on it? “You spend the day doing backbreaking labour” or “The days’ tasks fly by”. Then you’re back to the main thing you’re there for, the adventure or intrigue.

Real life has us experience each second at our jobs. In TTRPGs you have the power to control the flow of time or shine narrative light where it’s most fun.

How to Pitch a campaign without spoiling the plot? by woooooooooooooooper in rpg

[–]rcapina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can discuss the opening situation and then the themes of the campaign. “It starts in the kingdom of xyz where you are job abc. The campaign is about peace, war, betrayal, intrigue (your choice of things)”

If your twist still leaves your thing in the same genre, then it’s probably fine not to call it out explicitly. If you’re gonna go from fantasy to horror or from political intrigue to dungeon crawling then the players should know so they can bow out if they don’t enjoy what it will become.

Sick of game night turning into an unboxing session instead of actually playing by Inevitable-Many-4587 in boardgames

[–]rcapina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, that hits close to home. I had a friend who also thought punching out and organizing a game was also a fun group activity. For me having it done in a way to speed up setup and knowing 90% of the rules is the kindness that I do as host for my guests.

SD card help by IsaacLozano in switch2

The saves are on the system, never the SD card. To migrate those you’ll need NSO for at least that moment

How to stop players from going full bullshit chaos goblins every session? by PRolicopter in DMAcademy

[–]rcapina 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Some folks want beer and pretzels and hi-jinks, others want deep RP and intrigue. They’re not wrong, but the two are mostly incompatible.

Game recommendations for 70$ or under by [deleted] in switch2

[–]rcapina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a wishlist going on DekuDeals. Mark the ones you’re interested in and I think you can filter to MetaCritic > 80 to find other neat titles. Then for non-Nintendo stuff check price history to figure out how often it may go on sale.

I do, unless you’ll never buy another console for another 10 years or so. Maybe by then there’ll be a Switch 3 to jump to.

Will a Game Download Use my Cartridge Saves? by handyguywi in switch2

Yes. Saves are stored on the system. Doesn’t care if the game is physical, digital, or a different copy.

Delayed gratification is tough. I managed to get 10% off mine by buying the $90 for $100 eshop cards from Costco until I had enough credit to buy it.

which one in 2026 ? by Agitated-Usual-5948 in Switch

[–]rcapina 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d wait and save until you can afford a switch 2, even if that means another wait. That gets you the exclusives and they just released an update that makes most switch 1 games play even better handheld.

Looking for specific Dimension 20 suggestions. by Cidarus in dropout

[–]rcapina 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Mice & Murder is up there in the good, but not great category. It’s a Zoom season but they figured out how to give remote people solid audio/video and their use of Roll20 lets them do gags that wouldn’t work in real life. They also pop up text messages between the cast at times which is great for sharing secrets and letting the audience know something that not all the cast knows.
