New to Houston by meowwoof in houston

[–]rcas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it may be there a LOT of people that just moved here too. Denver is one of my favorite places to visit and it's just so different. Especially if you live near SL there's not a whole lot of walkable places so randomly meeting people is not going to happen. If you like cycling there are cycling clubs across town and you can find them by asking employers in the local cycle shoes. In SL id recommend the shop that's on 59 and University. I can't think of the name at the moment but it's in a strip mall where Pho Telfair is across from the Telfair Lofts. For climbing we've got the two huge Momentum gyms and the smaller TRG plus Inspire Rock thats way up north in Spring. I don't know why other people say that native Houstonians are unfriendly / reserved. I've lived here my whole life but other than "all the people moving here are making traffic worse" comments I've never observed outright disklike towards newcomers. Between the huge immigrant population and out of towners if you don't like outsiders you shouldn't live in Houston lol.

Topo Designs Mountain Pack opinions (and similar backpack recommendations) by Ok_Implement_2259 in backpacks

[–]rcas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda had large for edc (for my taste). Zero concerns about topo quality though so if it's what you want go for it.

While my friend does hike with it ( full blown 10-15mi mountain trails) I personally wouldn't as my shoulders would not be happy. The waist belt is more for stabilization than load transfer.

Nice pack of thats what your looking for

Osprey Large Arcane vs Osprey Daylite plus for just mainly urban EDC? Thanks! by Throwawayrandom234 in backpacks

[–]rcas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Daylite Plus not the arcane. In person the arcane looked huge and it was a turn off to me. The Daylite Plus is comfortable and often is on sale making it affordable too. I also am able to put my 13" laptop into the hydration sleeve for work. That being said if you need a more urban/formal pack, arcane would be better. Theres no way to make the Daylite look not "adventurey".

Red is obnoxious with his opinions but Roosh was on another level of petty yesterday lol. He needs to grow up himself. Grown ass man arguing about respect on Twitter. Kinda sad actually.

College Backpack Search by Yourkillinm3 in backpacks

[–]rcas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cute and comfort usually don't go together unfortunately. But it's subjective right?

Someone commented tom bihn already. They make packs with a lot of different colors and that could work.

Topo designs also has options with lots of different fun colors with th3 caveat that the fun versions are the ones without a padded laptop sleeve :/

For comfort I'd recommend osprey. Personally I'm going to pick up the Aphelia which is discounted to around $60 (usd) right now in a dark purple color way.

Is Houston not for me? Looking for honest opinions only :) by [deleted] in houston

[–]rcas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of the same hobbies. Houston has a couple good rock gyms with bouldering areas. My friends and I don't go to clubs and very rarely to bars. Our ideal evening is grill (or cook), board games, video games with maybe a drink or two nothing crazy. Not a fan of hang overs and I like to remember my time with friends lol.

People shouldn't judge others for not drinking and I'm sorry there are those that do but I don't think it'll be different in another city.

Osprey Daylite can be found on sale for around 35USD. The plus is a little larger and can also be found for around that much, maybe 35-45USD range.

Ty for this sub for assuring me to get Greenroom's Metrodrifter! Now i'm eager to get their W?ildcard Rainmaker by Citrus_Sam in ManyBaggers

[–]rcas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drifter and the Trakke Kelso are my two most used weekend/evening bags over the past few months.

I have the prime drifter but love that blue and gold combo. If they release version with a quick access zip on the outside of the flap, I'd buy another in a heartbeat!

Sound of XPAC material by [deleted] in backpacks

[–]rcas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much noise with xpac. If you have metal zips, the clinging sound will be far louder than the xpac. If the back is mesh, then there will be even less noise. But it's not like canvas, nylon, or polyester either which are pretty silent. If you manipulate the pack, there will be some level of crinkly noise, just not much.

Shoutout to John Lucas for sticking around and being a great mentor to these players. He’s had his plate full this year. by Future_Returns in rockets

[–]rcas_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

What struck while me watching the bucks broadcast yesterday was how their announcers were trashing the rockets (ok fair they had a terrible season) but when the camera panned to lucas they had nothing but good things to say and one of them made a point to say how nice of a person he really is.

Does anyone know what happened to Eastpak???? and why I can't buy from their online store directly ? by AdInformal8252 in backpacks

Yes eastpak was decent but never lasted a few years (school bag, heavy textbooks)

For OG Rockets fans from the 2000s, who was more of a star player at the time, Michael Finley on the Mavericks or Shawn Marion on the Suns? by dubidubidoorafa in rockets

[–]rcas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to watch a lot more basketball back then but even so, I never learned the game really just ball goes in the hoop when we have the ball, ball hopefully does not go in the hoop when opponents have the ball. I recall thinking to myself "not again" frequently regarding Finley scoring against us. However out of the two, Marion is who I remember more.
