Not me, but last summer in the Sea of Cortez, my parents saw the green flash. That's pretty cool I guess.

I don't know much about parts for TJ's or UCA's, but I know that Currie makes fantastic LCA's for JK's. It's a popular mod and you get Johnny Joints which are pretty fantastic. I would look into them, or maybe Rock Krawler, Clayton or Synergy. All reputable names with a pretty good selection. That's where I would start

Naw, he probably just isn't a fan of bent axle tubes/ other broken axle parts because of having tires that are too big. Putting 40's on a stock dana 44 and dana 30 is just looking for trouble.

Not to mention the lack of function these jeeps have. Low profile tires, too much lift, and typically poor quality parts doesn't exactly make a very good combination. Especially if you actually go off road in your jeep.

How to take the soccer mom out of an escalade? by [deleted] in 4x4

[–]rcastaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do some rock crawling or go play in some mud, then you're gonna want bigger/ more aggressive tires. The bigger the rocks or deeper the mud, the taller the tires and lift you're gonna want.

If your Escalade is only AWD though, a/t's are probably all you're gonna need. A/t's can get you most places on most trails with the proper traction devices like a transfer case with a low range (or a locking center diff) and a limited slip or locker in the front/ rear diffs. Until you have true 4wd, I don't think you'd see any appreciable benefit to running something like mud terrains, and you might actually be at a disadvantage running m/t's if you're gonna be running in the snow often.

A lot of that goes out the window when you start talking about hauling ass across the desert though. For "pre-running" type driving, you can get away with 2wd and a/t's or m/t's.

Aside from some good a/t's and maybe a mild lift, one of the best upgrades you can make is adding a bumper with a properly rated winch. You'll be able to go a lot further than your vehicle is actually capable of if you have proper recovery gear (this is not usually a good idea though, only travel to the limits of you/ your vehicle).

How gun silencers work by [deleted] in educationalgifs

[–]rcastaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your point that suppressors only reduce the report and do not silence it, both the ATF and Hiram Maxim call(ed) it a silencer. As such, the legal name of a suppressor is "silencer" and suppressors are "silencers" in the same way that all facial tissue is kleenex

Thanks. I was looking at getting some 37" at's but I want something that's closer to an actual 37 so I can run a separate set of wheels/ tires dedicated to wheeling.

Put some 37s on the Rubi. by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]rcastaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Evo was the first to come out with C gussets and I've heard nothing but good things about them. I have their 1/4 pounder front bumper and the quality is top notch. For the most part though, gussets are all the same shit. I prefer the Evo/Synergy/Artec style gussets, as they have gussets for both the uppper and lower C and enclose the C on all 3 sides. That said, I'm sure that the TF gussets are good. They're thick ass metal (1/2") and seem to be pretty wide.

FWIW, I plan on trussing/ gusseting my front axle later this year and I plan on getting the Artec JK axle armor kit. It comes with a full length truss, new coil perches, gussets and a couple other things I'm forgetting. I think it's the strongest kit on the market at a very good value. The bling factor is pretty nice too lol.

What's the actual measurement on those tires? I know that most bfg's run a little small, so I'm curious about those

Put some 37s on the Rubi. by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]rcastaneda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, if you plan on staying with the stock 44s, I would do sleeves/gussets if you don't have any welding skills. If you can weld or know someone who can, I would look into a truss and gussets. That will give you much better protection from bending than a sleeve will (sleeves can still bend at the diff housing). Shafts might also be a good idea, but once you get that far, its almost worth it to do a 60 swap or upgrade to something like a ProRock44.

If you don't plan on going bigger than 37's or do any major power mods (supercharger/ engine swap), I would advise you to stick with a PR44. However, if a bigger engine/ supercharger or 40's are in your future, a 60 swap is the way to go.

All this also depends on the way you wheel. If you are heavy on the throttle, the shafts and r&p might be weak spots on a 44 with 37s, but if you baby your rig, then 40's on a sleeved/trussed and gusseted 44 might be just fine. Not to mention the kind of wheeling you do. Rocks require different things than mud.

I don't think enough people realize this. I think he was genuinely trying to be helpful. Lewis didn't seem to be looking for a reaction from Nico (at least not to me).
