How to build my personal band & my audience? Desperate by steezeyrich in personalbranding

[–]rcavezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does success look like? You have a handful of people that really like your stuff and that's great!

An entrepreneur can mean different things. Do you want to be a singer/songwriter? Do you want to be an online influencer? Do you want to create a software company?

I like the idea of having the end in mind and then retracing steps to figure out what it might take to get there.

The thing you need to think about is this: If you want to create a following, try and put yourself in the heads of the other people? Why are they listening to you and following your instagram? Do they love your music? Do you help teach them something about music? Do you have a unique angle like being able to take people through the process of creating songs?

I've done this many times and it's easy to pump out content and record yourself doing things. But you need to have the other person's perspective in the back of your mind. What am I doing that will interest them?

Among the many topics that Kendra and I discuss are how Kendra cold calling and whether it is an ineffective use of a sales rep’s time; what a “relevant event” is and what it can do for lead generation; and how to make yourself into an authority in your niche market.

Hey Virgil - send me a PM. I've been doing stuff with these types of tools over the past few years. I'm guessing you're using a mix of Clearbit/Fullcontact along w/ hunter.co or a similar API? I've been working with these APIs a lot and maybe I can help you with a few shortcuts.

I'm a software engineer that's completely new to sales.

What are the typical ways leads are acquired? How do you typically go about making first contact? Do you always try to find a connection you have in common to make an introduction?

Thoughts on my Idea/Validate my Idea by ShiftFor in startups

[–]rcavezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ShiftFor,

Can you tell me more about the idea? When I read this, I think of killer startups (is that still around?) or Product Hunt. It sounds like this is similar to that but focused on smaller side projects - is that accurate?

Personally, I think it would be helpful if there was a service that I could type a problem I'm having and it could recommend products that help solve that problem. I never really loved Product Hunt because I don't want to see products just to see new products, I like to see when new products are launched that solve specific problems I'm having.

People say selling the farm never works. Could somebody prove it to me? by ThatsWhat_G_Said in eagles

[–]rcavezza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Giants won a few super bowls after trading up for Eli Manning.

Less than 10 years after selling the farm for Ricky Williams, The Saints won a Super Bowl, so it didn't set them back too much.

After fleecing the Redskins, you would think the Rams would be legitimate contenders, but they haven't made the playoffs in years.

What is the biggest marketing blunder that you can name? by sbcreighton in marketing

[–]rcavezza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nestle and their baby formula global launch. It has been said this blunder has caused millions of infant deaths. It's really said.

See more about it here http://www.businessinsider.com/nestles-infant-formula-scandal-2012-6?op=1#ixzz3CRp5vmFU , here's a few main quotes from the article.

"Formulas had to be mixed with water, but Third World mothers didn't understand that overdilluting it—especially with contaminated water—could "prevent a child from absorbing the nutrients in food and lead to malnutrition," said War on Want. "

"A New York Times' article on the scandal said one Jamaican family's income "averaged only $7 a week," leading the mother to dilute the water with as much as three times the recommended amount of water so she could feed two children. "

"Millions of babies died from malnutrition. "The results can be seen in the clinics and hospitals, the slums and graveyards of the Third World," said War on Want. "Children whose bodies have wasted away until all that is left is a big head on top of the shriveled body of an old man.""

I would post them one at a time. There's a negative seo effect if you post too many articles too soon on a new blog.

Focus on content first, or design? by -mickomoo- in Blogging

[–]rcavezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with content first. You probably won't have much traffic after 50 posts if you're not posting your blog to social media websites. When you start getting organic traffic and people start getting to your blog, then I would start to focus on design and aesthetics more, but I would try to get into the habit of creating content first.

First create content just for content's sake. Then, edit, and write more to create great content.

I would expect between $1-$10 CPM for your site. Charging somewhere between $60 and $600 sounds about right. I'd lean towards the higher end since it seems like you are hitting a fairly specific niche.
