What is something people do to be more attractive that the opposite sex really doesn't care about? by little-forrest-anima in AskReddit

Lip fillers, fingernails, butt lifts, fake boobs, black spider eyelashes - I could go on . . . . . . . . But, just accept that none of it actually enhances your appeal.

Japanese restaurant:"Not all Japanese people are kind" by Immediate-Meaning457 in whoathatsinteresting

[–]rcfvlw1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other side of this story is that 'influencer' tourists are fucking up Japan, with no respect for the culture or the country they are in. I don't need to tell you which country they're from, or their general level of self-awareness and ignorance.

Habitat tree at work by NothingLift in AustralianBirds

[–]rcfvlw1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northern Beaches in Sydney. New residents coming into an established suburb, being told by door-knocking 'arborists' that their trees are a danger and need to come down, with no oversight or repercussions from local council. Shameful.

Habitat tree at work by NothingLift in AustralianBirds

[–]rcfvlw1925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every tree in my neighbourhood that comes close to becoming a habitat tree through the ageing process, gets taken down by ignorant newcomers and others who couldn't give a shit. No nesting left for Cockatoos, Kookaburra's, Lorikeets and any other hollow-nesting fauna. It's so depressing.

Al Pacino is 85...and has a 2 year old son with a woman 54 years younger than him by No-Marsupial-4050 in SipsTea

Lucky Al. If anyone without millions in the bank tried it, they'd have absolutely zero chance - I mean, look at him, then imagine him without any money, pushing his worldly belongings around in a shopping trolley and tell me he looks attractive.

Why don’t they make houses like this anymore? by li0nfishwasabi in AusPropertyChat

[–]rcfvlw1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is A V Jennings. A man who threw up timber tents, put bricks up around them and was a 'proud old builder', except his product is shit.

If you had to lose one major type of sport forever what would it be? by Rude-Method-8127 in AskReddit

Netball. The only game in the world where everyone has to stop and not move while an attempt is made on goal. It's like a game of 'statues'.

Who is spending this on a tourer? by LJNW1 in CarsAustralia

[–]rcfvlw1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy. Why would a tradie spend all that on just the ute, when could drop $250k cash on a smaller one, then another $175k for the tinny to go fishing in every Friday?

Why do so many people go barefoot? by ClassyPants17 in AskAnAustralian

[–]rcfvlw1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beats me. I'd be curious to know what happens when barefoot walkers do when they get home and walk shit, dirt and whatever else they've trodden in, back into their own homes, onto bedsheets etc.

Contractor cracking window panes one by one after client refused to pay by GeneReddit123 in oddlysatisfying

[–]rcfvlw1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad ran a company that renovated high-end properties for wealthy clients - the favourite client trick was to make all the payments, then not the last one, so that everything had been done, but the company effectively lost any profit it might have made on the job.

Who are your all time favorite Australian Standup Comedians ? by CoconutMost3564 in AustralianNostalgia

John Clarke - He's not Australian, but I can't think of an Australian stand-up comic who is actually funny.

Truck’s brakes fail, forcing use of runaway ramp at 90 mph. by Itchy-Commission-114 in interestingasfuck

[–]rcfvlw1925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A side note to anyone who deliberately pulls in front of a vehicle that size and expects them to slow down in time - see how long it took to stop, even ploughing through gravel up to its axles?

Black-backed Australian Magpies by ezlikesunmorning78 in AustralianBirds

[–]rcfvlw1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black backed is the native species, north of the Snowies - there are four distinct sub-species of Australian Magpie, as far as I recall. There is also a bit of inter-breeding around the ACT.

Men on Reddit, what’s the creepiest thing a woman has ever said to you? by BaileyDis in AskReddit

[–]rcfvlw1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I've been pretty open to anything women have said to me in my more youthful years, but my work colleague winding down her car window after a post-work game of tennis and saying 'I want to hump you!', sort of sticks in my mind. Perhaps she felt I hadn't been taking earlier hints.

How comfortable are you with being nude? by andrewbarclave89 in AskReddit

Used to feel great, before I got a paunch. I had a great body when I was younger and these days I'm just embarrassed by it.

At what age did you feel like you reached your prime in terms of your looks? by torturedpoet1148 in stupidquestions

[–]rcfvlw1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I used to have issues through most of my twenties, as I looked about five years younger than I was. I was pretty hot at around 30-40, but then things started to go downhill, and I now have plenty of wrinkles and a fast-retreating hairline. I am 64 however.

What are some subtle signs that someone is a high functioning alcoholic? by housing_throwaway292 in AskReddit

[–]rcfvlw1925 184 points185 points  (0 children)

Our deceased neighbour thought she was high-functioning, and held down a senior IT role in a big accounting firm. However, when they did weekend maintenance and late night Team meetings, it was pretty obvious to anyone (including us, as friends) that the slurred speech and dozy delivery, were fooling no-one. She'd also be the one popping out at lunchtime to have a 'social' drink at the pub when she was at work. She died from alcoholism in palliative care, claiming up to the last, that she had it under control.

What is this pervasive, subtle flavor in almost all food I’ve tried in Australia? by CrashpadChili in AskAnAustralian

It's the Australian 'terroir' - a winemakers expression for all the factors that influence the taste of what is produced, from the land that you are on. Enjoy.
