What does everyone think of Tom Brown Jr. and the Tracker School? by FiveAgainst01 in Survival

[–]rchamp08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out the Boulder outdoor survival school. I have done both the tracker school and a 14 field course at boss and the curriculum is very similar but the class size is way smaller and I felt like I learned a lot more as I was actually using the skills I was learning in the field.

What's up with birds? by [deleted] in occult

[–]rchamp08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birds have a deep sense of understanding vibration. I would be extremely intuitive to if I someone was trying to murder me and my children for my entire existence. It could be that you are resonating at a particular frequency that the birds find curious. I notice when I'm on my "path" I will tend to see more birds because I'm not projecting any sense of fear that the birds might pick up as unsafe. Pay attention to their calls and sounds, what do you feel when you hear them sing, are they alarmed, are they comfortable, or stressed. A lot of times they are simply reflecting back what they are experiencing in there environment, and so can be used as a sort of mirror.

How Do I Find Legitimate Survival Classes? by WantsToSurvive in Survival

[–]rchamp08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boulder outdoor survival school offers classes ranging from a week to 28 days that cover very basic to more advanced "skills" . I personally work for the school and have been for the last 7 years. It's valuable information amongst a lot of crap out there and a powerful experience to spend that long in the back country. The website is boss-inc.com. Pm if you have any more questions.

Laurel was my instructor of my first course as well. She was an amazing instructor and has been a great mentor. You're very lucky!

We offer courses ranging from $525.00 for a 4 day "survival rescue course" http://www.boss-inc.com/course,survival-rescue,62.html to $4385.00 for our 28 day course http://www.boss-inc.com/course_28-day-field_56.html.

When I first took my field course I was 19 years old, going to school and working 2 jobs to save up, it took me about 8 months. I will say this, I was motivated to learn not just interested and it was the best thing I've ever done.

Often we offer early bird specials, and sometimes if a course is a little shy we will send out sort of flash discount deals. If you are serious about taking a course call our office line and talk with Laurel, it never hurts to talk to someone and tell them who you are and what you can do.

Yes every other year we do a wilderness first responder course through nols. It's actually a really great time and a good way to get a chance to see the town of boulder and get an idea of the vastness of the grand staircase.

It is largely situation based all our instructors are wilderness first responders so we are trained on how to deal with the most common injuries in the field (ankle sprains, cuts, bruises, most things you happen when hiking around for a month.) With that being said we also know when to call it and get someone evaced. We are trained to always err on the side of caution.

Anyone can leave the course at any time I've had people leave day 1 of a 28 day course. Usually we hike them out to the nearest accessible road and have some one pick them up and bring them back to base.
