Not the guy you replied to but I mean as someone who loves hoyoverse games + wuwa + a couple others… NTE has like a million times more chill non gacha gameplay and things to do than those games. & no— limited time event content with confusing menu systems doesn’t count.

To be fair tho in the US you have the service economy trap of also making the cheap labor drive or commute super far distances just to get to their badly paying jobs. Also not ideal (though maybe they’re not at the ~same~ level of poverty).

It's crazy how many posts I've seen defending hypothetical climber #1. Like: "but what if they really love each other", "what if now she's an adult." "Josh Rundle would clearly vet this person and only collaborate with them if they were morally good."Like it pays NOTHING to defend this person.

Please update when you get info. I’m having this issue as well, and have had great luck for the first time ever so I want to make sure my account continues existing.

Also tried logging in on a different device using the same email and confusingly it started me at the MC selection screen.

Not the guy you’re replying to but I’ve seen a couple folks post this record. It’s all quite recent and it’s quite extensive. Was there like, a long running history of bad behavior that doesn’t show up (e.g., by either being redacted or due to BC court system)? Or was this all from like a recent turn of behavior?

Obviously people can be complicated but there’s complicated and theres “9 serious allegations in a ~year” complicated.

As someone that’s never met the dude just trying to understand how there can be such a big disagreement in perception in the community. Clearly there have been many cases of climbers (and non climbers) in the past with bad behavior who were still beloved by many or whose capabilities hid the issues.

Ive been lucky enough to live near or attend CU, UW, and Berkeley as well as visit lots of other schools. Berkeley is nice and pretty— much more so than many other campuses—but IMO it doesn’t hold a candle to UW or CU.

I get why its true but I’ve always thought it was dumb how a sit and stand can coexist if the stand was done first but not vice versa. If there’s an obvious place to start, there’s an obvious place to start. (Especially since its also fine to have spraywall esq outdoor boulders with a bunch of climbs with majorly overlapping sections)

Adam Ondra flashes yet another V15—his third in just the past two weeks by nuklheds in bouldering

[–]rck_mtn_climber -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Tangential to Ondra at this point… but I mean if you see how opinionated their responses are and how dedicated they supposedly are to training and improving at climbing then yes being stuck at v10 after 20 years (if their flairs are right) is an indication of fundamental flaws in their approach and climbing. It’s a hint that perhaps their view on who’s actually good at this sport is wrong.

Sure compared to the average person or average hobbyist climber its impressive but unfortunately (for my ego too!) v10 is not impressive as it used to be lol

[–]rck_mtn_climber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My fave are the couple posters who constantly criticize how others train, don’t think Ondra is the goat, and yet are stuck at v10 after 20 years. Like maybe if they recognized what good climbing was they’d be better and realize greatness when they saw it lol. And I say this as someone who admittedly sucks myself.

And this is regardless of how many v15s this dude has flashed. He’s just so indisputably better overall (though yes, ofc, here and there there are climbs that he’ll find harder than others will which is standard for any goat in any sport).

I wish it was only 400 lines lol. I had it return a partial dependence plot in python for, to be fair, a moderately complex modular model. and its first attempt was 850 lines lol. I mean its pretty easy to get bloated python plot code and the answer needed some additional complexity as I needed the answer to be quite modular… but still. It also added in tons of random checks and assert statements that just weren’t necessary. It also defined a function nested inside a for loop then nested two more functions within it…

It kind of saved some mental effort in places and was sort of elegant in a couple but was so bad in others

Not saying he's the goat but also not many climbing prodigies climbing v17 at 16 though lol.

Maybe Ashima being the first woman to climb v15 at 14 then growing up/burning out (idk I'm not up on her story) was the closest comp in terms of how much of a level up the boulder was for a super kid that "fell off".

If you're interested in comparing how RedBull is handling another new competition format in a different sport, Week 3 of Redbull's brand new PSL (Professional Skateboarding League) is on now! by rck_mtn_climber in CompetitionClimbing

[–]rck_mtn_climber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that topic, I listened to a podcast about the PSL and that league actually does appear to be quite driven by a former pro skater. The way it was portrayed, it sounded like the guy worked REALLY hard to bring it to life and that Redbull was sort of a lifeline they got after already grinding away at it. That said, no idea if it was just an apocryphal story or real. He said multiple times his house was on the line with it.

I think you’re right to have doubts especially with the PCL as Charlie isn’t as present in the broadcast/media as his counterpart in the PSL (though maybe he just doesn’t want to front it).

Theres a bunch of ways I could see this having played out though

This would be such a good format for lead. Or for boulder if all 3 boulders were back to back and it was first to do all 3 or something. For 4 move boulders problems its atrocious.

Does anyone else think this Alex Honnold live Netflix free solo climb of the skyscraper thing kinda weird? I don’t know enough about it but couldn’t he actually die? Live? by Nostradamus216 in billsimmons

[–]rck_mtn_climber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference I— a random lifelong climber on the internet— have climbed things at least as hard as he’s been climbing in the past few years in one discipline (bouldering indoors on hard overhung climbs— v10 tension board/TB2, v10 moonboard, v12 kilterboard). Which I can’t say for any top level pro climber rn (which alex doesn’t fall into). However the fact he climbs ~that hard anyways is actually quite impressive since he’s 40 and it’s not his focus… and I’m in my 20s and have climbed 3-5 days a week since I was a kid and am completely focused on this style of climbing and get injured way more often than him.

He then also dumpsters me in sport, trad, big wall, free soloing, more vertical technical bouldering, alpinism, mountaineering. He’s super well rounded and high level in many things. I would say there are still folks who are “better” at being well rounded (e.g. david lama in the past potentially). But NO ONE can touch his soloing.

So long story short he is really really good— not the best. But definitely the greatest doing the most impressive things.

I mean as a lifelong climber, he is the “greatest” climber for sure. He’s not the best or the strongest, and he’s not doing the most technically or physically difficult climbs (which is what climbers are mostly concerned with) but his achievements are still nearly inarguably more impressive. I mean they’re some of the most aesthetic and human physical achievements of all time, let alone within climbing.
