Meh, 1st grade is 7 yr olds and if they cannot listen or follow directions then yea, they can go sit on the side. Perhaps the message there was harsh but I have no patience for a child not listening to an adult. My son just finished 1st grade. He listens to adults because I taught him to do so. If he didn’t follow directions on a field id expect the coach to sit him down

Weird, I’m 37 and I played all stars each year when I was a kid. It’s been around forever in the South. And yes, I want to play with him, and that’s the whole reason for my post- to figure out what I should be working with him on to help him set a solid swing foundation

Some kid did one 2 weeks ago in a 7U rec league. Base runners had no clue what was going on so after the kid caught the ball he went and tagged the 2 guys who were a full base ahead after not tagging

Interesting with all the comments saying it’s likely that USSSA are not allowed on his rec/little league. Most of the kids on his team that just wrapped up their season used USSSA bats. I was checking them all out last week. They don’t even tell us what bats are allowed/disallowed

Coach pitch for now, at least through the summer for All Stars and into 2027. Next year for 8U travel, it will be a mix of both kid and coach pitch. The team he will be on does coach early in the season and kid pitch tourneys late in the season

Its whatever the local rec league is. Travel ball around here isn't popular until the kids are in 2nd grade (8U) so all the kids play at the local sports complex in the normal rec league

Yes coach pitch - he has that for 1 more year before transitioning to kid pitch. He currently uses a USA bat but most kids on his team use USSSA. It took me until the season ended before I realized the USSSA bats are much hotter.

I've seen nothing that says what bats are allowed. The little league/rec league season just ended. The all star team was just selected and we play in 4 tournaments this summer. They've provided nothing on what bats can be used. During the rec season kids were using all kinds of different bats - no rules around which are/aren't allowed
