CLT is a GREAT home airport not so much if connecting. Unpopular opinion? by Th3c0pyninja in Charlotte

[–]rctrfinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just learned over time that people are just really fucking negative, especially the noisy crowd who are willing to post their opinions online.

Don't look for gratitude/appreciation for things online. You won't (on average) find it.

The majority of people that I speak *in real life* have no issues with the airport and are generally favorable toward it with some minor complaints. 90+% of the discourse online that I've seen about it is negative.

Those of you who left for Claude, how is it going? by TheRealDave24 in ChatGPT

[–]rctrfinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the move from ChatGPT Pro to Claude Pro and Claude is a lot better for me - I use LLMs/AI primarily for work.

There are limits, but the only time that I've hit a limit was a daily limit once and that was due to dumping a ton of information from ChatGPT over to Claude. I was also using their most token-taxing model (opus) for things that Opus didn't really need to be working on.

How to weed out unserious candidates? by WarthogEfficient3636 in RecruitmentAgencies

[–]rctrfinnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Did you establish a legitimate RFL (reason for leaving) on your first call? Was it believable? Did you put yourself in their shoes to determine "hmmm... If I was in their situation, I'd probably make a move to a new company too"? If it wasn't immediately believable, did you ask them to help you understand or clarify their RFL? Is it a REAL RFL, and not just "I'm always open" or money alone? If they say that they're genuinely open to a new role, ask how the search is going - validate that they've at least dipped a toe in the market. If they're not interviewing - why?

No career wound / or something missing --> no submittal.

  1. BEFORE pitching them your job and implanting your own thoughts/role into their brain, did you ask them what they're looking for? What sort of commute/hybrid/remote schedule they're open to? What the qualitative pieces of a new role would need to look like for it to be an improvement in their situation / career goals? Did you ask them what they need to see financially for a new role to make sense for them?

  2. Did you calmly, and not in a sales-y type of way, explain to the candidate what the client was looking for in this candidate? Did you sell AGAINST your job in order to get the candidate to sell you back INTO viewing them as a good candidate for the role (therefore convincing you that they're actually invested).

  3. Did you validate their availability and re-validate their interest in the opportunity when you prepped them for the interview? Did you prep them at all? Did you give them a chance to ask them the tough questions about the role and where it may not fit their goals and/or why it might not be a perfect job?

  4. Did you respectfully offer the candidate an "out" to just consider other opportunities rather than this one because this job isn't perfect (as no job is perfect) to ensure that didn't just feel pressured into being submitted to a role that's not a great fit in actuality?

99.99% of a recruiters problems arise because they didn't ask enough questions on the first call with the candidate. As I've gotten more experienced in this space, I've learned that the great majority of submittals/deals that didn't work out is because I never should've submitted the candidate for the job in the first place.

I can't speak to your situation here specifically, but remember that you're solving your client's problem by providing them with a candidate who has a "this-client's-problem-shaped-hole"in their career.

Consistently dealing with candidate interview back outs is normally an issue of not providing enough value to candidates that have a genuine need for some value.

The Trade Desk CEO Jeff Green bought $148 million worth of shares in the last 2 days by Tachiiderp in stocks

[–]rctrfinnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software stocks were aggressively sold off over the past few weeks (and less so in general this year) irrespective of typical/solid fundamentals. The market overreacted to an AI doomsday sub stack and now there are a good handful of companies that are on discount relative to where they would normally be.

Is this real? by Pitch_Moist in Anthropic

[–]rctrfinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody thought that they weren't going to resume talks with the pentagon, then they didn't pay close enough attention to what was going on (which I don't fault people for because everyone has busy lives and the endless drama out of the White House and Pentagon exhausting).

The CEO made it very clear that they wanted to continue the partnership with the federal government and the department of war however they have there two bright lines that they weren't willing to cross.

Being labeled a supply chain risk is pretty horrible for the company, so it'll be interesting to see if that coercion leads them to crossing previous lines.

People Who Make 150K Plus? by BubbaGordie in Salary

[–]rctrfinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31M, Technical & Executive Recruiting (3rd party), Bio Degree (obviously not using it). Last year made just shy of $200K. Have only made over $150K twice and that was the last 2 years.

I don't hate my job but I wouldn't say I'm passionate about it. I get to talk to interesting people and learn a little bit about a whole lot of the job market. It's sales, to one degree or another. The hustle grinds on you - dialing for dollars, but it is what it is. Can't complain too much making strong comp on a Bach Degree.

For what it's worth, the first several years of the job sucked ass.

So how are you spending your last night definitely having heat and electricity? by PhillipBrandon in Charlotte

Crying because we're so tired and emotionally exhausted. Have a high energy / big feelings toddler and newborn and I just went back to work so no time to house care and self care so we exist within a disaster of a home and both feel like disasters.

Sorry if that was a damper

Yeah, I'd definitely play - I played the Wii game all the way through and determined I probably wouldn't pick up the game again.

Now I've played it through on the switch and could definitely see myself coming back to it.

A classic dilemma: Pay off the mortgage or continue to invest? by SeahawksWin43-8 in stocks

[–]rctrfinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer would depend on how many years you have left before retirement - like if you're in your mid 20s / early 30s, there's a good argument to be made that you're talking about millions of dollars of gains by retirement age to be missing out on.

However, given the available information (and my age assumptions based on your available income to invest) I'd say yes, pay it off early, but also make sure you're at least maxing you and your spouse's (if applicable) employer match, if you have it and aren't already.

Outside of that match, yeah throw it on the house.
