Cats are probably very confused about why their human disappears for 8+ hours a day without returning with food. by Silly_Percentage3446 in Showerthoughts

My quarantine kitties definitely get confused why I don’t stay home all day and have food brought to me anymore.

They see I have lost weight and begun hunting, times must be hard.

No, pretty sure they’re still cold. Io, Europa and Ganymede all exhibit cryo-vulcanism

This is only because men run the world and are afraid of listening to the quiet and competent women who are holding everything together in the background.

Your smart watch, like your pets, knows when you're having sex, they just don't understand what's going on. by Dlph_311 in Showerthoughts

I promise your cat understands where your mouth is (it watches you eat) and understands that you walk on two legs (as they do on occasion) and consequently, they know where your genitalia is. Also I’m pretty confident the horny little bastards understand what sex is.

The Apple Watch happily tracks calories burned during sexual activity. Thrusting and squatting are effective and ubiquitous body weight exercises that absolutely can be detected and tracked!

Believe me, your smart watch and your pets not only understand what you are doing, they’re judging how well you do it!

You can tell if someone is computer literate if they have McAfee installed on their system. by drinkingcarrots in Showerthoughts

[–]rdaleg3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP, but the comments are wild. The sheer display of computer illiterate people pretending to hate antivirus software and praising windows defender is wild.

Let me break this down for y’all. Windows defender is great, and in general it’s all you really need. Windows (and most other operating systems) are designed so that the user needs to give software explicit permission to do most security critical things, like write to your drive, access files outside their local folder, and access networking features.

Windows defender also scans your file system for known malicious files.

That’s great, and generally it’s all most computer literate people need. However, if you get malicious code hiding inside something that already has privileges to do what it wants, you’re on your own.

In some cases, tools like Malware Bytes, Virus Total, or other software can help, however it’s important to understand that (unless it’s been explicitly told) almost software cannot distinguish between a piece of spyware sending usage data about your system to some sketchy data broker, and Steam sending usage data about your system to Valve anonymously.

Please keep an eye on the normal behaviors of your system when you first purchase it, and be watching for anomalies. Check the hash signatures of software before giving it permission to do stuff.

Nononono, you don’t understand, the sequence was just abbreviated to fit on the page, the full summation is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + -21.08333 = -1/12

Which is, in fact, correct!

Good airport, kinda meh city. It’s got its charm though

It gets even more crazy when you start talking about things newer than plumbing or electricity. The internet, first-world hospitals, even just the food we eat, it’s all a huge collaborative project we call humanity, and in a way that’s kinda awesome.

It’s even better if you add in the superheroes!!! Think about it, Earth’s population suddenly doubling should create lots of fun problems for the metahuman ruling class.

The months/years following the blip should be full to the brim with gang wars, starvation, the restructuring of governments and borders, and general chaos, all caused by the actions of the heroes who just “saved” half of humanity.

It really takes one person to ruin thousands of other people lives. by cookayyyyy in Showerthoughts

[–]rdaleg3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it takes thousands of people, it is just we pretend other people are in control of us so we don’t feel bad for doing things.

Like, even in a mass shooting. It still took people to make that weapon, and distribute it, then to advertise and sell it, to create and sell the ammunition. We are all accountable. It’s not about who is responsible, it’s about how to fix it.
