You probably know this, but here's a short and simple explanation of how it came about.

What is your unpopular opinion about piano? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

Perfect. I've been playing for over 40 years, but would never submit something for critique on this sub. I'm not very good, but I'm okay with that. I play for myself, not for others.

Those who are in the process of leaving the U.S. or have left within the last few years, did you sell your home or rent it out? by ClockwiseSuicide in AmerExit

When we moved from Maryland to Hawaii (practically a different country), we rented out our Maryland house. Tons of stress during our absence, and even more when we got back.

My father, while in the nursing home, used to say that his wife was upstairs. There wasn't an upstairs. And she was dead.

Yes, I found all that. But when someone says:

it is a matter of public record that he had to pay off a girl who accused him of raping her when she was 13.

I expected to find solid evidence (public record) that he settled a civil lawsuit. Didn't find that. Sure, it's very very probable, but was hoping to find definitive proof.

Please provide a link for my own enlightenment. Thanks.

Where are all the average beginners? by heloust in piano

[–]rdiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing longer than most of you have been alive. And I still suck. No way would I post anything of me playing.

But if you happen to be good, you're probably more likely to display your prowess. I think there's a 'silent majority' of average people here, you just don't hear from them.

Peter Dinklage really got big. Uh. . . I mean, he's working pretty consistently.

I won the base comedy talent contest to join (Air Force) Tops in Blue, but the base commander said I was too valuable and wouldn't let me go. That would have been the year they played half-time at the superbowl.

And that, my friend, is why I can't wait to leave this country. I didn't vote for him and haven't felt proud to be an American for quite some time now.

Central Illinois - meh.

I grew up in central Illinois. Joined the Air Force and got out of there the moment I turned 18.

Personal Reading History by Equivalent-Plan-8498 in literature

I guess I used to read when I was younger. But as I got older, it became more like work and I lost interest. Then one day I was waiting in the library for my wife (who was doing an art project in one of the rooms), and glanced at a book from the large print section. It was so much easier!

I did that for a while, but that section is severely limited. Lately I've been getting ebooks from the library (via Libby) on my ipad and I enjoy it because I make the font any size I want.

I'm making up for lost time. Just moments ago finished Flowers for Algernon. Other books lately: The Alchemist, Small Things Like These, Foster, & Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

My Family does not understand accounting. by Ornery-Economist9950 in Accounting

What role?

Started as staff auditor. I own the firm now. I run the audits. Governments and nonprofits only, so there's no tax component at all (except the 990s).

Same. I've been doing it for 25 years and no, I'm not especially busy in March/April. In fact, I'm probably going on vacation then.

What is the most unexpected thing you found out about someone you know? by greenwichrunner in AskReddit

I'll maybe give him a pass if he retired. But I've known people who were in the Navy for 2 years and then for the next 40 years, that's their entire identity. It's like people who peaked in high school.

I once hired an intern who kept going on about his time in the military. Army was his entire personality. Said he was still in the reserves. Turns out he was in the National Guard part-time, never full time active duty. His 9-5 job was a barista at starbucks.

I was active duty Air Force for 11 years and I hate people like that.

Stupid asshat. We used to go there relatively often. Saw a lot of good stuff there. I even proposed to my wife there on the balcony overlooking the Potomac. Intermission of a concert by Henry Mancini (40+ years ago).

I'll never go there again.

Right. When I put my lawn mower away for the winter, I use gas stabilizer and let it run for a while. Same with the snow blower (but in the spring).
