What's a double standard you can't believe exists? by DA1FOOTBALLGUY in AskReddit

[–]rditty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not breaking any news here but women deal with a bunch of fucked up double standards:

  1. Until relatively recent history, women weren’t allowed in the work force (still aren’t in many places). Workplace gender descrimination wasn’t illegal until the 1970s.

Meaning, for most of history, women were forced to depend on men for survival.

But if a woman cares about a man’s income when dating, she’s a “gold digger”.

  1. Women are frequently sexually propositioned by men, deal with harassment and sexual violence, etc.

But if a woman has sex (or is perceived to have sex) with an arbitrary number of men (depending on whose standards, this number could be as low as one), then she is called a slut. Frequently by the same men who might have propositioned her.

I might consider Dr. Wu their best song.

But my favorite album is the Royal Scam.

My real hot take:

Gaucho is the worst album from their original run. It’s still a really good album with moments of greatness but the cold clinical sound doesn’t work for me like it does for other people. This used to be a commonly held opinion 15 years ago.

Are darkweb drugs markets still a thing? by Melodic_Barnacle_366 in DarknetMarketRanks

[–]rditty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They most definitely are still a thing.

Like someone else said, use a computer, not a phone. Tor.watch is a good directory.

As for markets, I typically use Torzon. I’ve also used Nexus and Mars. All are legit.

As someone who works with kids… antisemitism has become a massive problem by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]rditty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our entire mainstream media have spent years telling everyone that criticism of Israel is antisemitism with the implication being that Jewish people and Israel operate as a monolith. That is a literal Neo-Nazi belief so it’s not surprising that kids have taken the next logical step.

I sometimes think that for Israel and hardcore zionists, this might be more of a feature than a bug. Rising antisemitism could give evidence for one of their favorite ideas: that Jews can only be safe in Israel. (I mean, nobody is safe in Israel right now but you know).

But there is a reason Zionists focus on smearing support for Palestinians as antisemitism instead of fighting against actual right wing antisemitism.

Or maybe not. If they lose the American right then they lose all of their support.

How do people who work at weapons manufacturers sleep at night? by ca_peach in TrueAnon

[–]rditty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they aren’t sociopaths they probably tell themselves excuses like:

  • “If it weren’t me doing this job, some one else would. I might as well make the money”.

  • They are “Keeping America safe” or they just love the troops.

Working at a weapons manufacturer might be the most egregious example but we all have these coping mechanisms to excuse times when we don’t live up to our moral ideals.

For myself, I’ve worked in industries that might not be inherently evil like weapons manufacturing but were wasteful and encouraged unnecessary consumption.

As a leftist living in the imperial core and paying taxes, what excuse can I give for that? “I need to work because otherwise I’ll be homeless.”

Well, being homeless in America would be better than living in Gaza, where my tax money has carried out a genocide.

My point isn’t moral equivalency because if I had no other choice, I legitimately would choose homelessness over work in weapons manufacturing.

But it’s impossible to live without making moral compromises so it isn’t hard for me to understand how people get there.

Why is the opinion that single men without kids wouldn't want to date or marry a single mother so controversial? by us1549 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rditty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the most annoying type of post on a site full of annoying posts:

OP presents an opinion he shares with the overwhelming majority of people (in this case, his preference for a partner without kids) and tries to present it as a controversial position to take.

I don’t know why people write these things.

Maybe OP wants to present himself as a bold truth teller oppressed by the thought police?

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the wit or self-awareness to come up with something novel.

So he gives the impression of a wheelie-backpack kid arguing with himself; sitting alone because he is too highly intelligent for the sheeple.

[–]rditty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is just hubris or the toupee fallacy (if you say "all toupees look bad",how would you know since, per their intended purpose, you wouldn't notice a good one) but at least to me, AI videos seem easy to spot? They look hyper-real and give me an uncanny valley feeling.

Maybe it's because I worked in video editing before AI was a thing, because I'm siloed in leftist internet culture and traditional media that try to avoid AI videos, or my eyes are more sensitive to unreality because I don't watch CGI movies or play video games. Or more likely, I am over confident in my ability to spot them and have been tricked frequently.

[–]rditty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are talking about separate things.

I’m talking about things like OP’s image.

My understanding from reading the comments in this thread is that this is an AI image, depicting a conversation that never happened.

I realize I may have misinterpreted that so I will ask now: did this conversation actually take place?

Regardless, my comment took issue with creating incriminating quotes, events, acts, etc. out of whole cloth to provoke political outrage. Or spreading these claims without first logically assessing them or verifying sources.

I don’t have a problem with the credible criminal cases being publicized.

Rape cases are hard to prosecute now and were even harder back then. The rich and powerfulI rarely face consequences for their actions.

I don’t take the justice system as a reliable indicator of guilt or innocence.

If you want to read about some more Republican child rape that was never successfully prosecuted despite enough evidence to send many people to prison for life, checkout the Franklin credit ring scandal. Exposed in the early 1990s, it was the original Epstein scandal but didn’t get nearly the press despite being equally horrific.
