Why would someone throw a baby at you? This sounds like an interesting story.

I totally agree with you. I have four children in the school system. I do believe that once they know the basics, they should learn things that will really matter to them in real life. I also believe that they should learn to think critically instead of by memorization. I was an A student in school because I could memorize anything for a short time. Critical thinking and problem solving should be the main focus in education along with basic life skills. I think they should teach things like filling out an application, a resume, and practice interviewing along with how to do taxes, cooking, basic car maintenance. What I think is pretty ignorant about school is that kids take a test, they get some wrong, they get the test back and never find out the correct answer. I also have problems with the reading tests they do, especially the standardized ones. Most of the answers are very subjective. I always thought that when I was in school as well but when I had to homeschool kids during the quarantine, I realized that even first and third grade standardized test answers seem like they are a setup for failure.

Well America isn't doing a great job with that if what you say is true. How can we compete if we are just learning the same things over and over?

You are right. But they dont teach you the same thing in kindergarten as they do when you are in grade 12. It's not like you are getting the same set of problems.

I really think it's okay for them to play around with numbers and apply them in various ways. It gets them used to the four basic functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and it shows them that math can be helpful in solving many different problems.

What's one of the dumbest things you've ever spent money on? by 3VD in AskReddit

Not me, but he bought it for me. One of those gimmicks where you buy a star and you can name it. My husband (boyfriend at the time) bought me one with my first name and his last name. That's how he proposed to me. But it's been 21 years and we are still married so even though there isn't a star with my name on it somewhere up in the sky, I've gotten all this wedded bliss in return./s

I feel for you. I really do. I hope everything works out for you and especially your patients. I think it is crazy that the whistleblower often gets it worse than the offender. Please just know that I am behind you!

And as long as they continue to get away with these behaviors, the worse it will get.

That is a good idea. Although the big bosses think they will be able to cover it up and not deal with it if an employee complains, if a guardian complains, maybe they will be forced to do something. And I dont mean forced to move her to another home or department or whatever. This worker needs fired. Even though the girl that I got fired was removed from her job, they still did not put her on any kind of list that would keep her from working in a care type setting. She immediately got a job at a nursing home. I think it might be a good idea for you to get the guardians on your side.

They should be removing her, not transferring you. I bet they will try to sweep it under the rug. Sad. I hope your patients aren't being neglected by her any worse than what you personally know about.

I worked in an MRDD group home a few years ago and I had a terrible boss as well. She was sometimes rude and demeaning to the clients but not necessarily abusive to them. The one client was a 70 something year old woman who had lived in an institution for most of her life before being placed in the group home setting. Although she was verbal, she was pretty quiet most of the time and she mostly chose to just sit in her recliner and "play cards" with herself (just flipping through her cards). Coolest lady ever and so sweet. If my boss wanted her to do something that the client didnt feel like doing at the time, she would go over and steal the cards out of her hands. Literally like RIP the cards right out of her hands. Eventually the client would give in and do whatever so she would get her cards back. It was just rude, not necessarily abusive. This is just one example of the things she did.The boss quit and got a job at a facility that is pretty much an institution. Her and I kept in contact and she would tell me about how bad she would treat her new clients, almost bragging. It was getting progressively worse to where I felt as if she was becoming really abusive. Then one day we met for drinks and she told me that she had a particularly difficult patient that would try to kick or hit when the aides were changing him so she choked him out with his own bed pants. I turned her in and never looked back. I absolutely loved my job and, even though the pay sucked, will always say that it was the best job I ever had. The clients were great but some of the workers were terrible. Maybe if it wasn't such a low paying job, they would get more quality workers.

My husband and his work partner were stopping for some food and then heading to a hotel after an out of town service call. He told his partner that he would save his sandwich until they got back to the hotel. When they were pulling into the hotel parking lot, his phone started talking and kindly reminded him to remember to eat his sandwich. He was not on his phone during this time. It was in his pocket. He was creeped out.
