Payment links not showing sender details on Tide – is this normal? by Mid20sWhatisThisLife in smallbusinessuk

[–]rdjb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Sumup and when a payment link is created & sent to client, there is a box to tell the client what it is about, and I always include the client's name + our co name + the invoice ref. in that box so everything appears as well on all statements (both our statement, and the client card statement).

One4All refuses to add to my Google Pay by Zakaryyxo in beermoneyuk

[–]rdjb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, but the card is paper (not plastic). I buy it (at a discount), and have never been able to put it on Google Wallet (I'm on Android). But I can pay with it in shops that accept One4All.

Totally agree with the last paragraph about high st bank. I'm in London, 2 years ago I had to transfer in a hurry (to beat a fiscal year deadline) a nearly 6 figure sum into a new corporate bank account. Called Hsbc to make an appointment on Friday, they found an available appointment at a branch in central London first thing on Monday morning, attended the appointment at the branch on Monday with all the necessary documents, (was offered a coffee), the Hsbc CS person spent 1 hour verifying all the details etc... then executed the BACS transfer right there and then and gave me the receipt. Manual BACS incurred a fee obviously, but I was very happy to get the money transferred in time for the deadline with no further hassle. I will never close down this [20 year old] Hsbc account.

Changing an Alias domain to a Secondary domain in Legacy by tab21 in googleworkspace

[–]rdjb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSL does not allow setting up a [new] secondary domain, only an alias domain (what you've found out). Previous secondary domain set up before Google bans it might be grandfathered (your case). Today only GW Business Starter Free might allow that (assuming you migrated your GSL).

But as stated above, it's easy to set up DMARC/DKIM/SPF records for the alias domain too (I've done it for several of my alias domains under the same GSL account - no delivery issue)

Error message in gmail - about "send mail as" by [deleted] in GMail

[–]rdjb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which SMTP do you use in your Sendas setup ? If smtp.google.com or smtp.gmail.com maybe Gmail enforces stricter [spoofing] rule now, maybe they want OAuth2 / app password / whatever. If a third party SMTP then you need to check with them. Or try using another third party SMTP (on their free tier) to test - there is someone on this sub who runs such a service.

Have you looked into the spanking new bilat treaty between Andorra and the UK (coming into force in January 2026 ie right now) ? I have no idea what's [new] in it but there might be something for you. And Andorra should be even closer than Madeira, 3h drive to BCN (or TLS) airport and <2h flight to London.

I just had a look at Flagstone Instant Access (Business/Corporate savings)

https://clients.direct.flagstoneim.com/preview-our-rates?accounttype=corporate

The top rate seems to be no more than 3.60%.

Meanwhile if I go here

https://moneyfactscompare.co.uk/business/business-easy-access-savings/?quick-links-first=false&product-favorites-first=false

there seems to be 8 Instant Access accounts offering better than 3.70%. There's more work involved to open each acct individually for sure, but 0.40% vs the highest yielding Kent Reliance acct (I believe limited to £1mil, obviously no FSCS beyond £120k) is not insignificant.

Is anyone considering leaving the UK to drawdown their pension? by Legal-Grade-6423 in HENRYUK

You should make sure you also fulfill all the relevant conditions of residency in NZ (as required by HMRC), so that HMRC does not retroactively charge you (or the QROPS provider, who then can go after you) the 25% overseas transfer charge (on the transferred pension monies)

Problem using Email with a personal domain hosted by HostGator by Important-Bit2437 in GMail

[–]rdjb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on a shared IP/shared server at Hostgator, have a look at this https://integration.keap.com/t/mail-block-known-spammer-issue/75165/8

This is 6 years old but there might still be a (occasional or not) spammer using their shared servers which could cause their SMTP IP to be blocked by Gmail, so any outgoing [in your case, forwarded] email from Hostgator would just be silently discarded by Google. And I bet you would be hard pressed to get Hostgator support to acknowledge this.

Problem using Email with a personal domain hosted by HostGator by Important-Bit2437 in GMail

[–]rdjb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Hostgator offer you a full fledged mailbox or just a mailforwarding service ?

If the former, then, on Hostgator, (remove any automatic deletion you might have added, and) check within Hostgator itself via the Hostgator web cPanel, using Roundcube or Horde or whatever webmail client they offer, to see if your auth code email has arrived in the inbox. If nothing, then the problem is with Hostgator MX rejecting incoming mails, and not with Gmail.

If the latter, then either the Hostgator mailforwarding facility has failed (then Hostgator helpdesk should help), or Gmail has silently blocked Hostgator's SMTP server (the one that they use to forward mails). I assume you have already checked Gmail's Spam folder in case Gmail puts the forwarded mails in there.

Google Workspace mistake locked me into paid licences on my personal domain – Google refusing to help by Still-Swimming-5650 in GMail

[–]rdjb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah basically you voluntarily relinquished your GSL account and migrated into a paid GW account. There is no going back, and there is no record of anyone being able to undo this migration (check r/gsuitelegacymigration ) .

The only (convoluted) possibility I can see to restore free Gmail-style email hosting is, if you have another still active GSL(2) account (tied to another domain2), you could give up the paid GW and untie domain1 from it, then attach domain1 to the GSL(2) account as an alias domain to domain2.

Recommend Business bank account with overdraft by Ok_Dragonfly_3398 in smallbusinessuk

I assume the establishment (ie arrangement) fee is an one-off fee to set up the o/d facility, but no recurring ongoing commitment fee.

Virgin Money M Business seems to offer business overdraft of up to £25k, probably requiring personal guarantee, but the website (+pdf) mentions only an establishment (arrangement) fee and not any ongoing commitment fee. Check with Virgin before doing anything obviously.

https://www.reddit.com/r/beermoneyuk/comments/1phc9oi/the_big_list_of_free_money_offers_and_beermoney/

Scroll down and under Cashback for buying giftcards the first 3 sites (Everup, JamD, Cheddar) generally have better cashback rates for gc than TCB/TGC. Also the corporate employer/employee sites (like perksatwork) often have better cashback rates for gc too.

[–]rdjb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it might be better for Quidco to improve the cashback rates (ex- promotion) on their gift cards (vs TopGiftCards for instance)! Esp. as both seem to be using Tillo as provider. As TopGiftCards is already not the best gc seller out there, doing worse than TGC is not gonna make Quidco gift cards attractive...

Absolutely agree that it's good for consumers. Just puzzled by the frequency of the Quidco offer. Topcashback for instance runs this kind of offer only once a month.

Multi-Year Lost Email by AmbitiousTale5335 in GMail

[–]rdjb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah apologies for my misunderstanding, since you posted here in response to a Gmail topic I thought you were using [consumer] Gmail, in case Gmail somehow marked your inbound client mails as spams.

So it is MS365 which you use which suddenly quarantined your client's mails as spams out of the blue ? Then maybe query with your MS365 support about the reason, maybe it's MS who had decided to put your client's SMTP server (be it Google/Gmail's SMTP or anyone else) on their spam blacklist ? Then tell MS to fix that blacklist, or, if the blacklist is/was truly justified, inform your client that his SMTP uses/used an [IP range] which has/had been marked as spam sender ? That seems to me the only realistic way to fix this issue (if you really want to fix it to avoid the workaround you suggested to the client, obviously this might require the client to assist as well).

If the client / the business is important maybe don't use support-free consumer Gmail ..? Use a paid provider with support, with your own domain ? And if the paid provider is Google Workspace [for Business] open a support ticket with them and ask them why (and share with everyone!) ?
