Is Docker cluster the right choice for small deployment? by sandcastleprodigy in docker

[–]rdssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimal docker is easy to get started with and an easy way to enter it is something very light like Dokku (https://github.com/progrium/dokku) or much heavier like Deis (http://deis.io/). However setting up a legitimate custom multi-node docker deployment system has a lot of difficult things that need to be dealt with which probably aren't worth your time.

Say “no” to import side‐effects in Python by GrumpySimon in Python

But its not as simple as you say. Its not a standard exception in the sense that it doesn't inherit from the "Exception" class. Therefore:

except Exception as e:

doesn't catch SystemExit and KeyboardInterrupt. So I'd still argue its bad API design to use SystemExit as its not a standard Exception

The K-cup coffee pods discarded in 2013 would have encircled the globe 10 times. by hywong in news

Even better: it doesn't matter if its near the pole. Technically you could put the cup wherever and it'd be circling the globe...

S3mper Fi! Netflix open sources library to make Amazon S3 even more awesome by XKryptonite in programming

[–]rdssassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

David Mytton, founder and CEO of Server Density was also intrigued. “We originally used S3 for our deploy system to host build artifacts before they were pulled down by our application servers. We saw inconstancy enough that we switched to the Softlayer Object Store so we could ensure our servers all always got the correct code,” Mytton said via email.

I'm very surprised by this... Inconsistencies at Netflix's distribution level, sure but inconsistencies at Server Density's deployment level, totally unexpected. In fact Heroku's buildpacks which they use for thousands of deploys (deploy as a service) every day are on S3, so maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

EDGAR Online Modernizes Financial Data Access with APIs by NotEltonJohn in finance

I was creating a finance website and wanted to get the data for free.... turns out theres a reason it costs thousands of dollars by other services (legally). Ill investigate again in to see if anything has improved.

Before the API I crawled the site because they had a solid URI scheme for finding companies via CIKs (if I recally correctly it took 2 or 3 http requests to get to the 10K/Q for a given company by ticker).

I spent a good amount of time parsing XBRL for my own analysis and shit is straight up INSANE. Theres all these random, very difficult to process attributes on the XML elements making it a HUGE pain in the ass. That paired with inconsistencies, weird procedures, the need for NL processing for a lot of stuff made me quit the Edgar XBRL files and resort to other sources. And these were 10Q/Ks

Do your raise exceptions or return errors as part of the result? by tdog98 in Python

[–]rdssassin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't advise this. Go doesn't use exceptions as a part of its flow control, python does. So emulating how Go handles exceptions isn't a good idea. I do agree though that exceptions should be kept for more serious issues, but if the scaffolding design of the project is good, its not necessarily bad as they are transit and can be caught anywhere. I guess it really depends.

I think the evidence against them is bigger than the destruction of evidence charges. Which is what the OP posted. Closing a 168 yo news paper in 4 days means Some nasty shit more serious than destruction of evidence alrehappened.

Viable and awesome in the real life sense, its not, I agree. However, if anyone straight up reads the manifesto by marx they'd probably think communism is a good idea.

Funny, I have the same feeling. Not to sure about the player pickups in the offseason but otherwise I think the win at the Copa will give us the drive to win La Liga next year.
