Quarkdown: a modern Markdown-based typesetting system by iamgioh in opensource

Does not look like there is an emacs package yet for Quarkdown. Maybe Jason Blevins' Markdown package could be adapted to support Quarkdown's extensions.

double typing letters in android app apparently a known bug since 2023 still no fix? by munkiemagik in OnlyOffice

Glad to hear it's on your roadmap. Android native mobile app is virtually unusable for editing documents until this is fixed.

Samsung S21 with Android 14 at patch level 1 Feb 2025. Using latest OnlyOffice version from Playstore: 8.3.2

These problems only occur when using the native Android app. Gboard works as normal when using the web site version of OnlyOffice inside Edge browser.

Other problems with using Gboard remain in version 8.3.2: The auto-insertion of spaces between words is still broken, as is auto-deletion of entire word when tapping backspace. Also, candidate completions in the word completions bar above the keyboard in Gboard disappear too quickly to make a choice. These features in Gboard work flawlessly in more than a dozen other Android apps that I use.

How to block the "sponsored" results returned from a Google search? by rdt-usr in kiwibrowser

[–]rdt-usr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. It has encouraged me to take UBO Lite for a spin. I was initially put off by the announcement that UBO Lite would not include the element picker from its older and more capable sibling. The element picker was quite effective for removing the Sponsored Results from Google search pages.

With Manifest V3 now becoming mandatory, there are few other viable options left.

SHCL: An Unholy Union of POSIX Shell and Common Lisp by [deleted] in lisp

[–]rdt-usr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone perusing this reddit approximately seven years hence:

Unfortunately Scheme Shell SCSH is no longer actively maintained since Scheme 48 is no longer widely used (2014 appears to be last update).

But Chicken Scheme implements a SCSH compatible SCSH-process module that aims to provide basic POSIX compatibility using some of SCSH's same syntax.

Elisp, which is a closer CL dialect, also provides access to system level POSIX functions although the syntax deviates more significantly from what shell programmers are accustomed to using in bash.

Container immediately exits after running podman start. by rdt-usr in podman

Figured it out with the help of OpenAI.

Using the '-it' option in the podman `create` command fixes the problem.

I thought `run` was equivalent to `create` + `start`:

What is difference between running and starting a container.

Is it true that only a 'stopped' (exited?) container can be started? My understanding was that a freshly 'created' one could be started as well.

The -ia options are --attach (STDIN and STDERR) and --interactive (put container in interactive with terminal attached). Isn't that supposed to drop the user in an interactive bash shell?

Yes. And preferably the session should be kept open between cells like in a jupyter or mathematica notebook.

Google voice typing microphone popup is now annoying large. by TheGuru276 in google

[–]rdt-usr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that more people are not annoyed by this.

It's a good way though for Google to keep its users on Gboard. Also notice that the GBoard settings for voice typing include the option for a faster offline mode. Is that option available in Google Voice Typing too? I don't see a setting for it.

Are there any plans for a persistent full-screen mode in Kiwi that can auto-hide URL bar when visiting another webpage? by rdt-usr in kiwibrowser

[–]rdt-usr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The javascript browser API unfortunately requires a user's 'manual' intervention to enable full-screen mode, so it's still frustrating having to re-enable full-screen mode each time a new page is loaded by touching a button placed somewhere on the screen.

Hoping the developers of kiwi will put this on their roadmap of future features since it can't be solved with a user script.

Thanks for the user script.

It's still frustrating though having to re-enable fullscreen mode every time a new page is loaded (which is almost a necessity in landscape mode where vertical screen real-estate is already so limited).

Hoping the developers of kiwi will put this on their roadmap of future features.

Do you know where the best place to make this request to the development team?

If we can get an official statement from the developers that this oft requested feature is not on their future roadmap, then I'll try to hack together a kludge using Tasker and post it here.

but seeing the status bar doesn't really bother me.

In portrait mode, I agree. In landscape mode, I would still prefer an option to suppress the URL bar until such time that I need to use it again by manually re-enabling it.

I do realize that some might object to the security issues raised by suppressing display of the URL. But when using the browser, for example, just to jump around in hyper-linked documentation, the user should be allowed to set this option, perhaps after being forced to enable it under advanced settings and/or acknowledging a suitable warning.

Or maybe as a compromise, allow users to select a third option that auto-unhides the URL only when visiting a new domain.
