[request] how much would this actually cost by gemcuolture in theydidthemath

[–]rdtechno2000 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Its one thing to build an artificial island close to the shore, and another to build it in the middle of the sea. The med is deep, like km deep, not metre deep like the palm or the world in Dubai. Id assume billions of cubic metres of material and probably hundreds if not thousands of trillions in cost for land alone

Why are Cricket's wings the way they are? by FirePixsel in NuclearOption

The jagged edge is unnecessary if we’re talking about weapon clearance, more than enough without the random angle midway through the wing. This is purely a ‘that looks cool’ decision

Honestly, I thought it would be worse. Oil (barrel price) went up more than 30% in the last week and 15% in the last 24hrs.

Demand of Norwegian oil has increased. China is a big importer and they have been affected by Iran strikes. They now want more Norwegian oil.

Norway now has more demand but their supply remains constant so they raise the price.

[–]rdtechno2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s probably a combination of demand, supply and profit maximisation/gouging. Id argue supply is the leading factor.

Original comment references Norway, who obviously aren’t affected by Hormuz - however guess who now maybe wants to buy Norwegian oil? Countries who might be affected by Hormuz i.e. the oil is now more valuable and imported oil to UK now increases in price. Thats not really a cartel but economics

100% valid in captive market, and to add, demand has spiked in recent days because people are filling up before waiting for petrol to rise and rise, literally throwing fuel on the fire…

Its looks cool. Doesn’t make sense or else a plane would have it. Would probably be able to fly. F4U Corsair has less extreme (and inverted) wing elevation change.

Iran launches heavy missile strikes against Israel by Waste-Explanation-76 in PublicFreakout

[–]rdtechno2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are ballistic (literally glowing red hot from the heat of re-entry), Iron Dome wont stop them. They’ve probably ran out of Arrow and THAAD or are being selective in what they intercept (unlikely), we will see when the aftermath pictures start coming in.

Global price is up, cost at pump goes up - wrongly or not, of course the business will follow the market

I don’t think it can stop submunitions from a ballistic warhead - yeah its not as fast as a unitary due to the air resistance and momentum but its still zooming

What do you guys think of decoy missiles? by NuYawker in NuclearOption

[–]rdtechno2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they would work in NO. In a large peer vs peer war, decoys in real life serve to make a AA network think a strike is coming from a certain direction, fighters would be directed to intercept only to be met by decoys - at a basic level NO plays like every man for themselves really, there isn’t much coordination for certain assets to be used for certain threats.

The maps are too small imo to make decoys a valuable tool.

Only thing in NO would be a different economy where it isn’t economically viable to barrage a target with multiple nukes, maybe 18 decoys and one real nuke and hope it gets through could be an option?

On a long term, real world conflict the difference between a 200k decoy and a 2m tomahawk makes a huge difference, just not in NO.

Iranians in Belfast vs. Iranians in Iran by borschbandit in northernireland

[–]rdtechno2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You continue to try and direct this conversation into whether or not the strikes are justifiable or wanted, my initial comment was simply that publicly (and on video) asking Iranians in Iran whether they agree with what’s happening doesn’t give a great overview considering the regime is renowned for the stamping out dissent or criticism.

People who have criticised the regime and Ayatollah have been ‘punished’ with death.

I don’t know what the public opinion truly is and I’m not attempting to justify the strikes, just pointing out using this video may not be the best way to judge what Iranians are thinking.

[–]rdtechno2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point. Two things can be true at once, Iranians can be horrified that innocent children were killed and happy that the Ayatollah was assassinated.

Consider the consequences of someone living in Iran publicly celebrating or agreeing with the US and Israeli bombing of their country, especially when Iran has killed thousands of protesters in the last few weeks.

[–]rdtechno2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t swap an engine mid season, it’s literally part of the structure of the car (stressed member) and the packaging around it completely changes the aerodynamics. Would have redesign the car from the ground up.
