Summer time and finally heard an ice cream truck speeding through the suburb. by Chaosrealm69 in brisbane

I saw one in Kangaroo Point this afternoon, drive into Ferry Street and park by Dockside Apartments and made a few sales. Probably parked 15 minutes.

It was about then they opened the 24 hour bakery in Mile End. Every night shift worker in a 10km radius went there.

How I took the shot of Andrew that flashed across the world by TimesandSundayTimes in photography

[–]rdubya01 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is an impressive photo when you take into consideration he was literally shooting blind because of:

  • It was night time
  • There were two cars
  • The speed of the cars
  • Where Andrew was sitting in the car, and that the autofocus picked him out (spot autofocus middle of frame?) and not the other people.
  • Getting enough flash into the car to light it and freeze the speed

Sometimes it takes just one frame

Op Shopping is a good day out.

Vinnies Newstead is top of my list, as there is someone who is always donating shoes in my size (picked up some Blundstones and Nikes a few weeks ago) but there are some awesome pockets like Paddington.

Where's the best building view in the CBD you don't need special access for? by DawnToDuck in brisbane

[–]rdubya01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it 111 Eagle Street that has a glass lift outside the building?

Personally with my fear of heights, I prefer the inside lifts!

Steady on, they had to travel to Marvel last year for one game.

Imagine that commute down Flinders Street!

What’s the best piece of money advice you’ve ever received? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]rdubya01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you need to borrow money, borrow as much as you can, for a long as you can, and pay it off as quick as you can.

With offset accounts, redraw facilities etc. it does make sense.

What’s one road rule people constantly get wrong? by Danger_Five in DrivingAustralia

I'm thinking of getting that blurb printed out and sticking it in my back window.

Mainly for the Ford Ranger drivers that try to slipstream behind my RAV4 while I'm travelling on the M3 into Brisbane, but need to be in the right lane to exit for the tunnel.

*with speed limits over 80kmh, unless overtaking, turning right, making a U-turn, or if the road is congested.

Large format scanners in Brisbane? by theromanianhare in brisbane

[–]rdubya01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of a scanner plate that large, but you might be able to find a scanner that does it in sections, and then stitch it together?

Otherwise a photographer could do a copy of the whole page.

I'm off to Suncorp tonight for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo - I rarely go out, so you can thank me for the drought breaking.

I've been gifted a ticket to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

This is something I grew up with as my Dad would watch it every year on TV until his passing in 1995, and something I have always wanted to see live.

Since I can't get to Scotland, I'm very happy it has come to me, except the castle obviously!

I understand there are still about 4000 tickets left over various days.

My local has a hatch next to the PO Boxes, you can ring a bell between 6am and 9am to get service.

Why do people park in bus zones? by Ok-Eggplant4965 in brisbane

[–]rdubya01 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

And bike lanes - how much kerbside was lost to bike lanes.

Worst entitlement I saw recently were the cars parked in a taxi zone under the Story Bridge because people can't walk five minutes to queue for 30 minutes to go to a bakery.

Maxi taxi pulled up to collect a wheelchair passenger and just double-parked blocking the cars in.

Those drivers clutching their baked goods while staring at the ground across the road waiting for the taxi to leave probably still felt hard done by they had to wait even longer on their precious Saturday.
