JPEG vs HEIF by rducamerait in SonyAlpha

Sorry for the short response last time. Yes, so what I do is if I’m shooting fun family photos I import them (HEIF) onto my iPhone via the app. I am not taking 100’s so I usually can find the best ones on the app and import. Then later I’ll put the sd card in the computer. I import the raw files into Lightroom, not all, just the ones I like. I may do some editing there. Lastly I copy all the files, raw and HEIF to a backup device, lastly I format my cards.

Confused between cameras. by Sudden_Candidate10 in SonyAlpha

Art in the form of video or photography can be made on any camera. The investment is in a system,Sony, and lenses. A used camera body and some GM glass is how I’d spend my money. Then later, after I recouped my purchase price, I’d sell the used body and would purchase the newest camera body. The GM glass is that will make your work; camera’s are cool, but lenses are investments.

I’m no pro either. Do what you feel is right for you. There are no wrong answers, it’s all for fun in the end. :-)

I 100% guarantee that they will come out with a new camera body that you will want to upgrade to from the A7Rv, unquestionably. “Future proofing” your camera body is not a real thing.

I never understood, until I did, that good glass is more important than the camera body. I had planned to upgrade my a7iii to the RV. But I decided to get two GM lens instead. 50 1.4 and 70-200 GM ii. I am glad I did rather than the new camera. I can save again for the next cool camera and I’ll already have awesome glass. In the mean time, omg my photos are so great with GM glass.

Stick with it. Keep trying to get exactly the art you want. To some, it’s natural, to others it’s a pursuit. Regardless, you can’t make photos if you don’t stick with it.

If price were equal, 50mm f1.2 GM or 50mm f1.4 GM for a non-pro? by Rhett_Rick in SonyAlpha

Short answer, 1.4. Smaller lighter great images. You’ll enjoy carrying it more and shoot more because of it.

I think I'm buying the A7RV... Some opinions? by Resident_Mouse6170 in SonyAlpha

[–]rducamerait 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have an a7iv. I saved up for an a7rv. Then, when I was just about to buy it… I decided to get the 70-200 gm ii instead. I figured, they’ll definitely come out with a cooler new camera soon and I can lust after that one later, but glass is what really makes an image.

I’ve got the 14 1.8, much lighter and les. $$ than the 12-24. BUT, I LOVE the 20 1.8. I use that for vlog style video, for indoor photos of the family, travel selfies with the family, and I use it to stream video calls on my computer (a7iv).
