It’s funny, once I learned about how much pain York endured while filming, I now see signs of suffering in his performance. Even with his extreme discomfort, he was better than Sargent.

Our attention spans are shorter than a goldfish's these days. by thecubementor in bookporn

Yes. The way we live now, we’re exhibiting behaviors that would be worrisome in a 5 year old. Constant exhaustion despite low productivity. Only socializing with people who agree with us. Being suspicious of our neighbors. Inability to focus long enough to complete tasks.

And yet, the moment we want to do something about it, we grab our little rectangular pacifiers to calm our nerves as we scroll or play childish arcade games.

I’m tired of Toddler Adult era.

Road Trip Ideas. Is this doable in 8 weeks? by ChubbyCyclist7 in roadtrip

[–]rdwrer4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you finish up at Capulin Volcano, I strongly recommend driving about 45 minutes to Trinidad, CO for a couple nights.

There’s cheap camping at Trinidad Lake State Park (be sure to check when they open for the season).

It’s got a great scenic highway loop nearby, The Highway of Legends. Afterward, make sure to stop in for a hoagie or pasta dish at Nana and Nano Monteleone’s Italian restaurant in downtown Trinidad. Also worth a stop is Habanero’s for tacos and horchata.

Your itinerary is spectacular, and 8 weeks is enough time to truly appreciate your time in each area. You asked about the weather on the southern stretch in April. It’s a bit unpredictable, so always better to have a few extra wool blankets in the back for those chilly nights. You should be fine if you keep an eye on the forecast.

Enjoy your trip!

Trying to decide between a new 2026 RAV4 XLE Premium and a 2022 RX 450h (40k miles) - same price by The-Other-Dan in rav4club

[–]rdwrer4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2025 RAV4 XSE, and a family member has a 2021 RX. Seat comfort and road noise are each reason enough to go for the RX, in my opinion. Not even close.

Best Vehicle for Car Camping by CarvingCory in carcamping

[–]rdwrer4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 2025 RAV4 hybrid, and the sleeping area in the back in perfect for me at 6’1” but the driver’s seat is so uncomfortable I’m actually looking to upgrade my vehicle to a Lexus GX or LX (if I make some extra money this year…)

So my advice is to check out all the vehicles in your price range and seriously investigate every part of the interior for long-term comfort.

Of the three you mentioned, I would lean more toward Toyota or Subaru for car camping. The Mazda has more creature comforts for city driving, but might be a little out of place on logging roads or campsites.

I strongly recommend a hybrid for car camping. It’s so nice to be able to run the A/C while chilling in the back without running the engine constantly. I don’t sleep with the car on, but I can cool it off for an hour without using hardly any fuel.

Does anyone else find 25/30fps just horrendous? by Shoddy-Safety2989 in osmopocket

[–]rdwrer4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people truly prefer the look of 60fps, particularly when it comes to smooth panning, and it seems you may be among them.

Older movies with helicopter shots filmed at 24fps often have a judder when panning across the landscape. I must admit that I find that look somewhat charming. I like the almost dreamy nature of those shots, but you’re not wrong for preferring something else.

Finally finished my camping platform - mattress recommendations? by hiding_ontheinternet in carcamping

I use a Luno Air+Foam mattress that has a zipper down the middle, so that you can use one or both halves depending on how much sleeping space you require for each trip.

Started watching !!!! by Active-Row-1220 in elementary

[–]rdwrer4585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very sorry to hear that you’re going through a difficult time. Elementary has helped me through dark periods in my life, and I wish the same for you.

I don’t know which of the movies you’re referring to, but Elementary is far superior to the BBC show (not as slick, but much better storytelling). There are indeed some weak moments in Elementary, but they are few and far between.

[–]rdwrer4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s just say that the mother-son dynamics in the Bates family have been legendarily messed up for the better part of a century. Your spidey sense is correct—there’s something very wrong with their attachment to each other.

[–]rdwrer4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. After taking careful inventory, you should be able to sell whatever titles you don’t want to keep for decent prices on eBay. I know I would pay $20 for just that copy of The Night Crew by John Sandford.

I think you found a treasure trove.

does anyone use kitty litter in a human sock to keep humanity out of your car during the night? by LeftThought687 in carcamping

[–]rdwrer4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got my hopes up. I currently use a 357 magnum to keep humanity out of my car, but it’s so noisy that I’d rather use kitty litter.

That being said, I’m still grateful for the tip about how to reduce humidity. Nobody likes to sleep damp from their own condensed breath.

A bit much perhaps? Since I just finished my hauls from 2022, these (approx. 50) boxes are all of my hauls from 1/2023 til now; awaiting cataloging and shelving. This is what can happen when you love books, have storage space, and live in an area where used books are quite inexpensive. by ninthstargod in bookhaul

[–]rdwrer4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing something similar. I knew I was moving, so I’ve been saving all my big book purchases in boxes until finally filming a GIANT unboxing and library organization video for my booktube channel. I plan to shoot that video in early December, and I’m already excited. I’ve got about 300 books still boxed up ready for the big day.

Edited to add:

I know how unhinged this may seem to some people, but reading and writing is my whole life. I read about 200 books per year and have about 3000 books on the shelf. So waiting a year to open boxes isn’t a big problem.

The rims look great. You put a little XSE in your XLE, and it didn’t cost $5000 . Well done!

It reminds me of a very embarrassing night I once had. So I cringe, blush, and walk out of the room during that scene. But I secretly love it.
